View Full Version : How do YOU make gold?

Since we all play more than one toon, curious what your methods of fundraising are.
I farm honor from BGs, buy epic gems, and sell them cheap in trade chat; payed for my epic flying x4, and guild with 6 bank tabs :)
Heroics are decent money, but I can never bring myself to loot dead mobs on all 4 toons, so the gold made from instances is simply the reward for completion, and the gear that drops for DE/vendoring.

Just FFA. Or if you want to use group loot you can loot the corpses with a keystroke and not change windows. I do both of these, depending on the instance.

Since even BoP gear can be traded amongst toons present when it dropped for a short while, I think FFA is the easist simplest way to handle Dungeon looting.
Anything the other toons might want can be simply traded at the end of the run.
And as to gold, dailies are good for that I reckon. 5x25dailies adds up.

Heroics are decent money(getting lucky with hilts). Professions are better money if you can get atleast 5 or more transmute alchemy characters. Playing the AH is also very good if you know the market, and only takes a few mins. Selling 1800 on 2v2 if your decent is really good money 4-5k+ per person, but sometimes it can take a few hours/sessions if the person is not that good. The 1800 weapon is better than the hilt so I can usually get more than 5k per person.
If you raid you can make a ton selling saronite to people, you get a ton of frost emblems and really have no use for them if you do raid. 1500g for each saronite atm.
For me personally its all about timing. When something new comes out or a new patch usually there is something new or changes. Jump on those changes.
You can also exploit the horde/alliance imbalance. Something that sells for 100g horde side can sell for 300g alliance side. Make some lvl 1s in neutral AHs and make a ton of gold.

- I avoid anything that is repetitive and will bore me out, regardless of how much gold it can make me.
- I set myself a goal shortly after dinging 80: don't spend money in the next 2 weeks, on nothing besides repairs. I ran dailies, did lots of AV and get gems, did some HC's and quested in northrend (there are still so many unfinished quests that are a great source of income). The only principle i have: i dont do anything that bores me, only what i find fun at that moment.
- It's not too hard to have 30k gold by then. Invest it: boost your professions. Mining, BS, leatherworking, enchanting, tailoring are rather cheap on my realm. JC & alchemy are pretty expensive to boost. Once i was finished with those I made money right away:
- eternal belt buckles - 30g per craft in the pocket, i sell 10-15 each day
- bags: 10-20 gold per craft
- there is several green lvl 70ish gear where the DE mats net more than the craft cost
- as you gain money, keep investing in alchemists
- no need to run all 25 dailies after a while, i now do only 9 to 10 that are fast, easy & not too boring
- i dont buy/sell/craft any high tier BoE gear anymore, the market is too unstable for that on my realm, with a possible risk of losing out on the crafting costs
- as a boxer you have the huge advantage that you have access to 2 auction houses, without the help of someone else: i'm playing horde and i have a lvl 1 ally & horde toon in booty bay, in stormwind i have another ally toon. My realm is medium populated and there is a 7:1 alliance/horde ratio. Generally it goes like this: not very popular things (like vanilla herbs) are rather cheap on ally side, but are insanely expensive on horde. Things that are wanted like primordial saronite and hilts are double the price on ally side. Bags, belt buckles, DE mats, etc sell very well there.
So i just mail whatever to my horde toon in booty bay, he trades it over the AH with the ally toon, who sends it to the ally toon in stormwind, and he places it on the AH. Whatever i need i do the other way around.
- mining: many places to mine, i don't even look for the titanium ore any longer, i just go for the saronite ore, transmute it & melt the titansteel bars to sell, or just prospect a stack. If often happens i buy for 1k saronite ore and start to prospect. Whatever i do, i do it in bulk.
I have 2 general rules i try to follow:

Jamba has an option to have your slaves opt out of random loot (apparently it's a setting in WoW itself). When enabled, your slaves don't even have loot rights to a corpse unless it has a quest item. They also are not prompted to roll on any drops.
I found this setting very useful while running my tri-box ele shamans through heroics. There was never anything to loot that I, the tank, or the healer couldn't loot ourselves. Additionally, most tanks and healers loved running with me once they realized I was only rolling once for DE and the like.

In like getting 4/5 of the rolls on BoEs and BoPs, so I dont want to pass on that stuff, not to mention looting is slow and boring, so I usually just charge ahead. Instances go faster when I blow targets up before the tank charges in, so I usually dont wait around to loot anything.

I spam the trade channel with all my toons at the same time and demand ransom from the people who want to trade. Once they deliver the gold to me I stop spamming.
Another nice technique is to plant one of your toons in each city and then start asking random strangers for gold.
Other than that, you can always send a death star to Blizzard HQ and ask them to give you some gold :)

I was doing the Heroics/Icecrown dailys, but that got old quick. I like the Farming BGs for gems, especially now with Double Honor.

I run Flame Levi 10 man every week twice (1 Toon each, since they are geared enough) and if I can get a buddy or two to come with me, 3 man Levi 25 several times. (Note, this is really nice to actually gear my new 80s up, there still drop some decent weapons - 2 Accounts are perfect for this, even if I don't really box)
--> Decent loot salery
--> Nice de-engineering mats
--> Some Upgrades for new toons
--> Gold
--> BoE Epics to sell (caster Wrists from FL 10 go for about 400g, helmet from FL 25 goes for about 1.5k)

Anyone got suggestions on how to get a lvl one character to the neutral AH in the least painful way. (this is on the other faction so no high lvl characters to help out)

Do you do Flame Lev 10 with just 5 toons?

I make gold because I have a super awesome boyfriend who's pretty much my sugar daddy. And I sell everything in the over inflated auction house and people actually buy my overpriced stuff. =D

what faction?
horde? travel to ratchet from that starting zone is pretty easy then take boat to Booty Bay.
alliance? mmmm i would think booty bay might still be best. you could always get a lock and multibox summon? lol
or if you have a char lower than level 60 linked on RAF to your account.. travel as 60 and then summon friend ^.^

I like to make my money by flipping items on AH, real easy and quick if you have auctioneer. prob drop 10k on bids a week to make back atleast 15k. (on a normal week.. who knows on a awesome week).
leveling from 70-80 so far I have gotten about 3-4k gold on each toon. (Note : CHOOSE THE QUEST REWARD WITH MOST GOLD TO VENDOR!!!! - you can out gear most of the rewards in a day anyways!)
also solo a dungeon.. good money there. (but like said before can get boring)

1.For horde: make an orc.
2. Attack a big ass looking mob.
3. Get yourself killed.
4. Run as a ghost to rachet.
5. Jump on the boat to booty bay.
6. Ress yourself upon entering booty bay (you'll see a spirit at the entrance).
7. Done.
For alliance:
1. Make a toon with a starting area as close to booty bay as possible. (humans? dont know ally races at all)/
2. Attack a big ass looking mob.
3. Get yourself killed.
4. Ghost run to booty bay.
5. Find the spirit.
6. Log out.
7. Wait a bit (not sure about this part, i just did it to be sure)
8. Log back in, ress yourself.
9. Done
(Alternatively you can take the boat to rachet and find the spirit over there, ress and take the boat back to booty bay)

I still do Icecrown dailies. I've done them a million times but the mass carnage of three Seeds of Corruption on as many non-elites as possible, keeps it fun! I also run the occasional daily heroic, loot everything and sell off the junk. I'm never going to be wealthy but it keeps me funded.

Did a human. Long walk. Lots of deaths. Now busy setting up my empire on the alliance to jack prices there as well.

I did dailies, initially with one team and eventually with three teams, until I was rather sick of them.
I still occasionally run dailies on one of the three teams, but that is rather rare these days.
I used the dailies to fund buying herbs to level alchemy.
So far, am up to 24 of the 29 alchemists I'd like to have.
Each of the alchemists are transmute specialized.
I have a single Jewelcrafting toon, who does the daily (every 4 days in a new JC pattern).
She currently has all Blue and Yellow patterns, most Green and is working on Red. She has at least two patterns for each color.
These days, even when the game is boring and I'm not playing.
I log in the JC, and prospect a few hundred stacks of Saronite each week for gems.
By selling a good chunk of the Scarlet Rubies, the remaining Scarlet Rubies and other gems are free.
The majority of my transmutes are Red, Yellow and Blue, in roughly equal numbers.
With a few of the other colors here and there, if they sell.
And then I just list 1-2 types of each cut I can do.
Which is almost 4k per day, pretty consistently.
It requires less then an hour (total, spread over 4-6 hrs) of logged in time.
Plus about an hour extra, once a week for the prospecting.

The easiest way is if you have a warlock to summon them.
Or you can go: /2 Paying 100g to be summoned into Gadgetzan by a warlock.
I'm sure someone will be bored enough to take your gold, especially with the Dal/Shatt ports to CoT.

Vanilla: Undeath to water
TBC: Primal earth to primal water, cloth specialty transmutes, voidshatter
WoTLK: Jewelcrafting daily, 3.2.0-> epic gem transmutes

in short: make an orc/troll, run south, drown yourself, your ghost will spawn in Ratchet.
