Talked a little to Svper about getting my DK into heroics. I changed some things and now have 541 Def. Thinking about a Sigil. I could get the EoT one with what badges I have or should I wait for more Frost badges. How much ilvl 200 is in normals, since I need to learn the fights from a tank's view. Getting close to Superior achievement now.

Something is up with wowhead, here it is without item links

Here are my thoughts:

STR is a offensive (threat) stat. At lower levels it's much more important that you survive than worry about threat. Your defensive stats are going to be Defense, Stamina, Dodge, Parry. Don't ever gem dodge or parry, it will come with gear. Don't ever gem defense unless you HAVE to. Make sure you're using the Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle on your weapon. it's easy defense that could open up a gem slot for 30 stam. Unless you need the defense enchant on your shoulders, buy the 10k Honor PvP shoulder enchant that is STA + RES. @ 21k HP you won't be able to tank a raid, so you can afford to drop to 535 defense for heroics.

Upgrade your lowest ilvl stuff first because you'll see the biggest increases. I wouldn't go nuts on T9 just yet because you may have to sacrifice stats depending on which piece you go with.

This is the order I'd go: (just from badges, other gear not listed you can get crafted stuff, belt, boots)
Sigil of Insolence - Emblem of Triumph x25
Clutch of Fortification - Emblem of Triumph x35
Shard of the Crystal Forest - Emblem of Conquest x19
Platinum Mesh Cloak - Emblem of Valor x25
Thassarian's Handguards of Conquest - Emblem of Triumph x30
Thassarian's Legguards of Conquest - Emblem of Triumph x50
Thassarian's Chestguard of Conquest - Emblem of Triumph x50
Thassarian's Faceguard of Conquest - Emblem of Triumph x50
Shoulderplates of Enduring Order - Emblem of Triumph x45
Glyph of Indomitability - Emblem of Triumph x50

Your first Frost badge purchase should be:

Corroded Skeleton Key - Emblem of Frost x60

Then grab the tank cloak, belt.

Hope this helps.

So I am at pretty much the same place as the OP, I have had my DK sitting at 80 for several months and was my first tank when I attempted to 5 box heroics, I quickly moved to a pally due to the easier threat and survivability of the pally.
Now that I have two teams geared I am looking again at the DK and really would like to run him as a tank, my main issue really I suppose is the overall rotations to use with him and how to maintain threat. I have thought about running him solo to get a feel for him solo but really am lost.
I did run him as a dps with my team and it was ok that way but obviously would rather run him as tank on my teams,
Here is his armory link: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&cn=Thadeous
Sry for hijacking the thread, but it is pretty much the same questions.

on top of bears statement, do not forget out expertise, that is a great stat, when coupled with hit, for generating threat. you can have 40k health, but you get a dps that likes to go buck wild you need to be able to hit the mob to generate that threat.

Thanks for all the advice. Now who has a colculator handy for all the EoT I will need? I saw the sigil and one trinket I have were in the bottom end. Most of the rest is iLvl 200 stuff. I do have SG on the sword, Greater Hodir on Sholders. Right now I has 25 badges total and next to no honor. Still farming rep for Argent Crusader, and Ebon Blade.

THX FS Now I feel better :(:(:(

Yeah, it kinda sucks, that to get gear, u need to do heroics, and to do heroics you need gear...

But, there's always regular lvl 80 dungeons, blue quest rewards, etc that can help here and there.

Add to that that you can que as a single toon and get carried by others. It will really start to pick up quickly once you get your first few 232s and 245s. Hang in there!

I know it can be done, just everything takes time. Sad as I am working this weekend, making big buck in RL but getting nowhere on my toons. Does the LFG Dungeon finder take your level and such when picking where you go? Maybe what ones you have done, and starts there.

It does factor in level and gear, but it has pretty loose requirements. I would suggest chain running FoS reg. You get two badges and 219 lvl loot. It should help with the gearing. I can cut you a bunch of +stam gems if you need them. The gems are just collecting dust in my bank.

gave LFG a try, first on H Hol. Well it was rough as no one really knew the fights. We wipe like 4 times on the general until I figure that out. Try to go further, must have turn the whole group over once. At the end, the bowl room full of hurt, mis-pulls finally end with me quit before kick. So I try a normal and get AN. Bad stuff, I fail before first boss and call it a night.

Kang, I got gems and cash, just need more that I can use/upgrade to. Learning to tank is harder than I thought.

I have a bunch of rare quality blue gems, i'll cut em and mail them to you. Like I said they are gathering dust.

I ran h-toc 5man last night and had horrible groups (yes plural). I wound up tanking since our tank got two shotted twice. The healer had a hard time keeping up with damage and the dps refused to attack my target (i let them die and they refused to res and run- /sigh). There are a lot of idiots playing that don't know their class or role. It's not always the tank's fault when things go south in a pug. Keep trying and you'll get there.

If you want some practice in lower LK instances, you could tank for my 70's group (Old Kingdom is the highest level instance they can get in right now). It'll give you some practice in a friendly environment and help you learn some of the fights from a tanking perspective (and i'll be leveling my group :).

That is most of my problem, I quested to 80. I only know one instance and Ramps ain't cutting it.
I do the random normals and I get hard one like Hol. All heroics are bad now, but 3200 GS should be gear enough to start them. Learning the fights would be a big help.
