I'm not sure what's going on here.
Started a new toon to level for fun (rogue). Was planning to use my warlock (ungrouped) pet to boost the toon. I grouped the boostee (rogue) with a third toon (my 80 mage). Kept 80 mage out of range and would tag mobs with rogue then have pet take them down. Was getting full exp doing this up until tonight.
Same exact set up but now getting a fraction of the exp. Am I missing something here?
Thanks.

Not sure on the grouping with an 80 part.
But in theory, it should work.
Toon (in a group) tags the mob.
Pet damage (or damage shields, totems, etc... but specifically not other players) kill the mob.
Toon who tagged the mob gets full experience.

Yeah, not working as of last night for me. Must be something I'm doing. My process was:
- Rogue grouped with 80 mage (tried putting mage in nearby camp, far end of zone, and complete other zones)
- Rogue damages mob first (arrow from bow usually)
- Warlock sends in Voidwalker; VW kills mob
- Rogue gets proportionate exp based on damage done (i.e., NOT full exp)

Update.
All three toons started in Camp Taurajo at the Inn.
Grouped Rogue (level 20) with Mage (level 80).
Put Warlock (level 80) on follow with Rogue.
Went south (doing "Betrayal from Within")
Tag boosted with Warlock pet (Voidwalker) as I went. Getting max exp with a single bowshot from rogue and pet doing the rest.
After probably 30 kills, exp went back to partial mode (proportionate to damage done by rogue).
Disbanded and regrouped a few times, etc. No dice.
Really really odd.
Any ideas? A ton of searches here and on broader interwebs has yielded no inisight here. Weird.

If you kill mobs that are not grey to the high level you won't have any problems (cept killing the mob lol).
You could group a 80 and the low level. Have the other 80 out of party. Tag with the in group 80, kill with the 2 80's and the low level should get capped exp. Just kill a mob the lowest level possible to give the 80's exp.

Sam's unrelated comment aside, maybe they decided to fix pet-boosting in this way of making it only work a short time per day?
And a question about how you are doing it, why are you grouping the low level with the mage?
If you need to port around, cant you just group the mage only when needed? (like how i would guess you group with the warlock to summon you back from the portal)

Sam, my "boosters" are all level 80's so everything is grey to them. Hence, they can't cause any damage directly as it saps the exp for the "boostee". (This is the entire rationale for using high level boosters with indirect damage like pets or shaman totems.)
Maxion, I just use the mage for convenience. Obviously, I can't group the warlock with the rogue as the warlock is within range and would sap all the exp. I simply use the mage as a dumb group member for the reasons you alluded: porting when needed.
No clue on this anomoly. I'll keep tinkering with it to see if I can find a cause. I'm wondering if there's a certain max distance between group members for this to work. (i.e., if the rogue gets too far from the mage the rogue is then treated as "ungrouped" for exp calculation purposes?)

I thought that pet boosting only worked with a party of 3 or more lowbies?

I have pet-boosted single characters before.
With 3 or more you just get the group bonus xp.

It worked for me, with two toons of the same level.
They were both 60's.
And they were killing Rhino's which ranged from 66 to 72.
The boosters were three shammies, at 80th, never grouped with the lowbies.
I would first try a pair of lowbies, of similar level, as the tagging group.

This isn't true. Technically mobs are within an EX range no matter what within a certain range. (i believe it is 6 levels) Otherwise warlocks would not be able to create any soulshards other than from PVP kills and raid mobs.

It's been a long time since I've boosted a toon, but it "sounds" to me like a distance issue. If you have room on the third account (mage), try making a disposable level one toon to party with the rogue. Use the lock's summon to park the disposeatoon at the nearest town or safe area while leveling the rogue, keeping the disoseatoon near enough to still have the rogue get the full experience. If the disposatoon gets a bit of experience too, who cares, it'll be twenty levels or so behing you, so won't be robbing any noticeable experience.
I'd "guess" that this will solve your problem, as I've noticed a couple of times that when a partied toon gets way far away, the game acts mostly like you're not partied. Worth a try anyway. Good luck..

I'm not sure about the pet boosting, but I couldn't make it work back then ^^... Even if it would work, I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort.
I've found a much simpler method - that's if you've got a druid.
Thorns - As most of you know, you can't apply high-level-spells to a low level toon such as lifebloom. But the great thing about thorns is, it scales with spellpower (since 3.1 or so). I reached about 4.1k spellpower on my druid using an on-use spellpower trinket. The result was fairly awesome, 150-180 backlash damage on level 1-20. Meaning: After being hit twice, the mobs die.
If you combine this knowledge with the instant-mob-respawn locations, such as the crabs in Westfall or the Worgen in Duskwood, you can endlessly pull mobs and level at a ridiculous pace, let the druid do some healing - out of party of course. (note: Nourish rank 1 can be casted on low level toons and still heals for about 4k... But Rejuv and Regrowth are good enough generally)
