View Full Version : [WoW] Seriously annoying bug - One character has a slower run speed

I'm 5 boxing, and I recently came back to my 5 death knights to level the last 2 up to the same level as the other 3, and I've got a little problem...
One of the original 3 runs slower than the rest, and keeps dropping off /follow if I run any kind of distance.
It's not a problem when walking, mounted, or when under the effects of a hunter's Aspect of the Pack. Only when that one character is running at normal speed.
It doesn't happen on any of the other groups of 5 I've got, only that one character from my DK team, and it persists no matter which install of WoW I use, even one running on a completely different computer.
Just plain wierd, and for a multiboxer, bloody annoying.

Check which aura's you have and your specs. DKs will run faster / slower based on spec / unholy aura.

Maybe you can cheat and put a run speed enchant on that char. Don't forget some run speeds come from weird places (gems, trinkets, gear, etc.). You already checked most things people will mention. So might check if that char is using an addon that slow things down. My main shammy (not in a group) had a corrupted totem setting (for a totem addon) that lowered frame rates down to single digits. I deleted the settings file and things went back up to high frame rates. Since the addon doesn't load for other chars, they never saw it. Maybe there is a talent (unholy) that affects run speed (like the blood, frost and unholy auras used to be) that even when not in unholy stance the other chars move fast, but the slow one isn't speced into so it runs slow. Just guessing. Hope you find it.

Can't be down to spec/auras, as they're all Frost/Blood Presence, and all have cut and pasted config files/identical (or working towards for the new 2) talent trees.
Can't be down to gear as it still happens when the characters are naked.
I put a Minor Speed enchant on, and the problem is that bad that even that hasn't completely fixed it.
The only thing I can think of, is I got hit by some kind of movement debuff, and it didn't go away properly, corrupting my character data on the server :(
Are they on separate machines? Is there some kind of latency issue cropping up? Are you launching from the same client? If not, can you try loading that lagging DK in from another client install?
The only time I had this problem was when I was running 5 instances on the same computer with all windows maximized. Once I made them run in windowed mode it disappeared.

This totally sounds like latency, and not really dependent on being on another machine. I have seen this when using ISBoxer where my main toon seems fine but the other toons are very laggy, it was my internet connection which was causing it (poor connection during heavy rain for some reason). The weird thing is that my connection still showed at around 100ms. I am presuming the connection was dropping packets which and so the lag was not reflecting in the wow connection.
Have you tried this toon by themselves? Or even logged into the client you normally use for your main toon?
To make sure, load that slow dk, and another toon from another class.
then put them side by side and make them run.
See if they go the same speed.
It might not be that DK that is slow, but the others that are fast for some reason.

I'd also ask if each of the toons has an equal amount of movement boosting foot-slot enchants.
If everything else is the equal, and the one toon is a bit slower.
Ticket a GM and ask why.
And in the meantime, lead with the slower character so following isn't an issue.
