Hi all,
so now that I am close to 80 and about to concentrat more on dungeons I am wondering about when I should be using fire elementals on this new team of druid, priest and shammies. To date I have been popping them on boss fights but have noticed that they can get nuked by the boss early on in a fight and unless I drop a new totem to replace it then I am down that dps.
When do you guys use the fire elemental? As a side note I am also wondering do you always pop heroism on the start of a boss fight or is that also something to use only in certain situations.
Thanks all for the insight

I got the fire elem glyph which reduces the CD to 5 min, so i use it almost at every boss, for example in nexus the bosses are to close to eachother, so only use it 2 or 3 times there. I pop 4 elementals at pull or before pull and just let them do their thing. Dunno really how often they die.

Asuming you still have to gear up and won't run a heroic in 15 min you can use it more then once. Just see what works for you. I use it at harder/annoying bosses or final boss if i haven't used it yet. In some fights it's a lot mure usefull then others.
in Pinnacle for example, it doesn't really add a lot since you get stunned a lot, unless you can pvptrink the first stun. So it could add more on an other boss there.

My tank died in Heroic POS at Garfrost. He died when Garfrost was at 1/2 health. I poped 4x earth elementals and killed the boss no problem.

I hardly ever bother with fire elementals unless it's PvP - where it's a really nice distraction if nothing else.

I drop Fire Elementals whenever there are a lot of mobs (AoE time) or for every boss fight.
My team is currently Paladin, Warlock and three Shaman.

I have the elementals on their own mapped key.
One press is one, two presses is two and three presses is all three.
And I am glyphed for 5 minute cooldowns.

I've not used Earth Elementals since moving from 5x Shaman to 1x Paladin + 4x Shaman.

On a sidenote, be aware that popping bloodlust before releasing your fire ele's will not affect them. I release my fire ele's and then pop bloodlust.

Earth elementals are pretty useful against targets that do nature damage (like the boss in gundrak that throws puddles) since they are immune to it.

So one last question, if your elemental gets nuked, how many of you drop a new totem to replace it?
I would presume most people have their 3 sets of totems bound to seperate keys so that the can call each set? Do you also then have the replacement totem bound to another key to replace the elemental? Or is it that fights just become too short to worry about this?

Nature resist totem does not stack ? Correct? Thinking of the boss in Gun :)

When doing Drak'Tharon, I dump one Fire Elemental to help with the adds on the stairs, as the elite adds from down below add in -- otherwise they like to destroy the totems.

It doesn't really die from the trash coming down the stairs, and can last a little bit from the elites. Don't really need it for the event, but it makes things a bit easier too. As long as you're fairly quick on the elites, to at least take threat, it never has an issue. I'll replace it, if it dies here.

Any that were not used, get used once the shield expires on the boss. But again, that's just extra damage to help kill him quicker. I switch the pally to Frost Resist there, and generally burn the boss (with 3x Healing Stream) before I need heals. When I started out, needed the odd Chain Heal during that fight.

These days, I'll generally drop 3x Fire Elementals, without that much provocation. With a 5 minute refresh, they're available quite quickly, and the team doesn't really need them for anything, if they're on cooldown.
