Hey guys,

Just wondering how you trained yourself for click macro's? I have a very erratic spam rate and clicks don't seem to work for me as intended yet so i'm using cast sequence macros. At the moment i'm only levelling up so they aren't a problem for now but when they all hit 80 I don't think the DPS will be doing full damage without click sequences.

Read somewhere about buying/downloading a metronome to time presses, would this be the best way?

Cheers

Lol using a metronome would be a good idea if you really cant get into it. But honestly I just tried. Put in as much "," as you think are fine and try it out. After that you probably have to repeat this step a few times.

Same way I do anything...practice. Eventually you get a feel for it, just like you would with mouse turning, strafing, knowing what key is where, or anything else you have to get used to when moving from one game or playstyle to another.

Do the word pad, clicking for a bit.
Get an idea of where your "average" click speed is.

Then periodically tune yourself at the target dummy.
Observe that each spell is casting, basically as soon as the dot expires or the spell refreshes.
Check also, if its a dot, that you are letting it expire before you recast it.

Even if I am a steady clicker at 2 clicks per second.
That doesn't mean, over time I won't become a steady 3 clicks per second person.
Tweaking the clicks/commas every now and then is a good idea.

Its funny. When I went to click macro's I simply used my normal button mashing on the target dummy using one dot as a "timer". Found out pretty quick that my button spam rate was around 7 per second. So, 7 commas per second of delay in all my click macro's and "voila".

Haven't looked back. I'm sure my timing isn't perfect and when I have to do something else with my left hand other than spam "2" (my dps button) it get's "off track". That said, my shaman using a /click is always outdamaging my mage who uses a cast sequence.

Most of my /click castsequences do about the same damage when casually spammed as when I panic and really spam my button fast, really the only thing I lose is some mana efficiency (over writing DoTs or Hots too soon primarily). That means when I fight normal mobs I do good damage, and when I fight a heroic boss and get too excited I'll still do good damage.
I used to have two different macro sets I would switch when doing bosses, but found out that just changing the spells in my healer's macros was so much easier.

Cheers for the replies peeps, guess i'll just need to practice until I get the 'feel' for it. Hopefully it will come over time as I resist the urge to panic spam as soon as I engage a mob :-)

You could just set your timings so that they fit your panic spam rate ^^

Aye, but my fingers cramp up half way through spamming so it wouldn't be very productive lol. Think some button spam retraining is in order

I have an erratic rate as well, but even then the macros will still fire off pretty well. There is some leeway.
