Well, after dual-boxing for a few months, I tested out a few extra instances of WoW to see how my machine would handle 5-man / 1-boxing over the last week. It turned out to work much better than I had expected, so I purchased 3 WoW battlechests today to make the account total now 5.
Unfortunately, my original character was on Magtheridon as Alliance, so I'll end up deleting all my lower level Mag characters now that I've transferred my main Alliance to a different server. Now I can finally join you guys on the Horde side as another 5-man set! :)
The million dollar question is which characters to play.. I like variety, so I'm going to try for 5 different classes, and my goal is not PvP-oriented.. almost strictly PvE with a little world PvP thrown in. At a minimum, I want one of each of the traditional MT/Healer/DPS classes.
So far, since I'd like to keep a party of the same race, I'm leaning on either of these groups:
Blood Elf:
Paladin, Priest, Hunter, Mage, Warlock
Tauren:
Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Shaman
Undead:
Warrior, Priest, Mage, Mage, Warlock
Orc:
Warrior, Shaman, Shaman, Hunter, Warlock
Or.. should I just scrap the same-race idea and go with a good mix?
Tauren Warrior
Blood Elf Paladin
Orc Shaman/Warlock
Troll Hunter
Undead Mage
FYI.. the machine I'll be running this 5-box on:
Intel Core2 E6600 overclocked @ 3.2GHz
4GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS
Gigabyte P965-DS3 mobo
eVGA 8800GTX
2x 36GB Raptors, 2x 500GB 7200rpm WD's (both pairs in RAID 0)
Dell 24", Dell 20" monitors
Splitting this videocard over the 2 monitors results in a significant hit in FPS, but keeping the resolution low on the 4 other accounts keeps them quite smooth on all 5 WoW windows.
