Hi,

I sometimes have one of my sessions freeze for a few seconds. No graphical activity or anything while all the other sessions continue normally.

Now I think it is a caching issue as it seems to happen when a spell or ability is used I haven't seen before or sometimes when looting a corpse. I assume it is loading the necessary textures to display the spell animation or the item.

Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? When it happens on my tank during a boss fight I start to break out in cold sweat. So any information would be appreciated.

I am running 5x WoW on 1 PC. Vista Ultimate, Quad core, 4GB RAM, 8800 640MB, 5 different WoW installations, 2x on 1st HDD, 3x on 2nd HDD.

It happened to me when I first got my setup quite often.
Basically the things I changed are as follows:

-Make two copies of WoW (and only two). One for your main and one for the slaves.
-Turn the graphics as low as they will go on the slaves.
-Set your max fps on the slaves to 10 or 15. /console maxfps 10
-Run your slaves on two processor cores and your main on two processor cores.
-Having as few mods enabled on the slaves as possible always helps.

Slaves are at minimum settings locked to 15fps when not active and 30fps when active.

I haven't done anything special for processor affinity. I suspect this is not a CPU issue.

Mods is a bare minimum at the moment. I think I have gatherer on my herbalist, tradeskill mod on all of them, Omen on all of them and the Bongos minimap addon so I can size the minimap to where I can actually make stuff out.

But I don't think it is a AddOn issue either as I've had it occur now and then even before I added any mods to the slaves.

-------

I suspect my 5x WoW installs might be the problem though. I can see this fitting a caching issue problem.

I'll try running all the slaves from a single WoW install on the 2nd HDD and see how it goes.

It happens to me very occasionally, regardless of whether I'm multiboxing or not. I think it's just a general WoW issue.

depends on system as well.

my dual core laptop had an issue where every 10 seconds i would get a 1-2 freeze and it would work fine for 10 seconds then freeze again.

this was related to a bios and gfx driver issue. since this was on my laptop I had to wait 8 months for toshiba to get a new bios update and a new gfx driver for my cards to be able to work.

So I paid 2.3k cash for a laptop that I had to wait 8 months before I could use it with wow. Should have taken the POS back and bought me a different one but the feiance wanted it instead. now I cant get the damm thing away from her :{

Well, I am leaning to 2 things really:

1. Caching issue with multiple WoW sessions

2. Texture issue with caching it on the display adapter

Now I am wondering if all 5 WoWs cache their textures on the display adapter because I am running from 5 different WoW folders which would explain why I would run out of texture memory on the gfx card and need to swap out textures sometimes on a random wow session.

I assume when running 4x WoW from a single folder it would cache the textures only once. I will make the change tonight anyway and see what happens.

Also check to see if you're using hte Recount addon.

Once I turned that thing off, I noticed that my sudden lag spikes stopped immediately. Apparently recount was set to do it's thing after each time I exited combat and was slowing my characters to an almost complete halt.

Just making sure we cover the obvious. :)

Do you mean Recap? I think I have Recap installed but it is not being loaded.

I am using DamageMeters on the main though, it lets me know when my hunter runs out of ammo haha.

The other thing I thought might be the cause was Vista doing stuff in the background but the problem is too consistent. I have only encountered it when a boss, mob or player use an ability or when I am looting something.

Certainly seems to be WoW related and it does seem to be something to do with graphic display. Anyway, I'll switch to a single WoW instance for all the clones and see how it goes.

I 5xmultibox on 1 machine - sometimes I get that weird behavior where everything siezes up or the mouse stops working or something else bizarre.

I then check how many sessions of keyclone are running, yesterday it was 3. My issues are always this.

edit: 7 feb 08 - the problems aren't always this, it's happened twice in the last week with only 1 KC running

I have noticed this as well, however if I reset det data inn recount it will usually fix the problem.

I had this issue after I have downloaded latest nvidia drivers. I downgraded my drivers and freezes disappeared.

Sounds promising, I might give that a go.

I switched to a single WoW installation for the 4 clones but the problem persisted.

I was checking my performance as well and memory was at 50% with CPU 1&2 taking most of the load and 3&4 used now and then on spikes.

Still had a 50MB swap file going though. Not sure what Vista was doing with it when there was still 2GB free memory.
