View Full Version : [WoW] Efficient Boxing Skinning Locations

On my server it seems that skinning would be incredibly profitable... especially combined with leatherworking. I'm wondering if there are any reccomended boxer friendly areas (multiple mobs) that people have come across. As a boxer we obviously kill 5x faster than a single person so there should be at least double the mobs killed per hour.
I normally would grind on mammoths in storm peaks ABOVE dun or in sholozar on gorillas or dreadsabres/giraffes.
Any other suggestions?

With the speed changes in VH, perhaps VH normal would be a good candidate. It has some loot upsides as well.
I did the gorillas for a while, aoeing them down and with 4 skinners, round robin IWT it goes fast. The issue is that it looked totally like botting and people were crazy over it.

From what some have said here, it would seem like a better choice to buy leather and then sell for Arctic Fur and then post on AH, there is quite a mark up on a lot of servers at the moment.

Leather itself is 20g per stack. 14g in bulk. It's not profitable enough really, especially because there is none on the ah... like ever.

there is little leather at the AH because the listing fees are extremely high, so if you don't sell right away, it cost a lot to relist which is why I think people give up on selling at normal prices - that doesn't mean there is a market for it

So the spam on my server of "wtb: [borean leather] 14g per stack" and having almost no heavy borean and very little leg armors are coincidence? There are also always under 1 page of arctic fur.
The economy on my server moves so fast it isn't even funny. Example. 40 stacks of infinite dust, 20 stacks of greater cosmic all sold in under an hour with BARELY any undercut to existing materials.
I'm not sure that boxing is going to speed up your farming rate especially at lower levels. You'll be restricted by the respawn rate of the groups you're downing. I think it might be just as efficient to have one toon level killing the mobs while skinning / lw. As for your original question for leveling skinning, you might try these places:
Barrens / Wailing Caverns - lots of packs of mobs in barrens, WC has a bunch of raptors and such.
Strangelthorn - lots of skinable animals everywhere
Sunken Temple - lots of dragons
Hellfire Peninsula and Nagrand - good packs of boars in Hellfire and lots of skinables in Nagrand
Borean Tundra - mammoths everywhere
Storm peaks - more mammoths
As for leveling LW - good luck. The sheer amount of mats required to level LW is crazy. It's on par with engineering if not worse at lower levels imo.

I found leveling LW when i did it piss easy. The only thing that was a pain was the farming stuff in outland on clefthoofs and such.
Respawn rates also depend on your area and such. I never ran into respawn problems as a single person though some paths could be meh, the dreadsabers and giraffe area has many mobs and respawns are fast.

Also in BC and WotLK, the more toons in an area killing, the faster the respawn rate.
So having five toons contribute to the killing, will cause faster respawns then one toon clearing the area.
Of course, you might not be able to run out of mobs with only one person clearing.

On further investigation into normal VH that looks like an amazing idea.
According to WOWHEAD
100% 1-3 borean leather
50% 1-2 icey dragon scales (vendor for 1g each iirc)
33% 2-7 frostweave cloth
19% trash (50 silver each)
~66 silver per mob (not sure if this refers to normal mode)
Greens
3 dream shards per run.
17x chances for mobs between 1 and 4 to spawn
lowest amount of mobs = 17
max amount of mobs = 68
So that is some decent amount of money in my opinion. Considering you can PROBRABLY get 4 runs in. (i'll have to check)

If 20g is too low and it's never on teh AH, maybe that means people would buy at 30-40g a stack? :p Or did I miss something?

People aren't that stupid. I tried that with some of mine. But it didn't sell. Sold when i put 20 stacks up for 20g a pop though. (i had 20 extra stacks a friend gave me i forgot about when making my PVP sets for shaman)

DTK is another good instance for leather. Not as many mobs as VH, but if you're looking to break up the grind, check it out. I get 90% of my leather from VH and DTK heroics.
