So I am nearing the end of my RAF period. In that time I will have 3 full teams of 5 to 60. They are Hunters, Mages and Pallys. Now I dont have a huge amount of time for boxing and am not the fastest leveler in the world.
But the time has come for me to decide which team I should take to 80 first. My plan was to take my mages first as I wanted to do some PvP on them, but I suspect that I will not get them to 80 with enough time before Cat to really make it worth it(In terms of getting them geared enough to be useful in BGs). While if i take a dungeon team I can at least farm badges for primodials, heirloom gear etc and then I can work on the other teams when Cat comes out (Going to get 5 troll druids with heirloms for Cat)

So if you were in my situation what would you take up to 80 first and why? These are the combos I am looking at based on what I have at 60 already.
1. 5 Mages for BGs
2. 5x Pallys for a dungeon team
3. Pally or warrior tank with pally or shaman healer with 3x hunters or mages for a dungeon team. (I think I would go Warrior, Shaman, hunters if I did this to keep the pallys together, although I do have a level 67 Pally as well I could use)

I have enough levels to grant to boost up any other 3 toons I want. I dont want to use a druid (Although I could easily grant one to 60) as I am planning an entire druid team later.

mages, you'll have plenty of time before cat.

If I were you, I would lvl the pallies, but I would replace one pally for a DK at 60..

There's a good reason why, and I will explain. hunters and mages have zero healing, which make BGs a big pain in the butt, as well as arenas not even possible. 5 paladins and 4 pallies and a DK are a great PvP and PvE team.

You can go 4x ret and a DK tank for heroics, or 1 prot 3 ret and a DPS DK like me as well. You can go 1x holy 3x ret and a DK tank, or whatever combo of tank / ret / DPs / heal u like.

I think that 5 pallies would be beast as well and the only thing the DK brings is the buffs, but at the expense of synergy, I would be tempted to take 5 pallies as well, and I only take 4 ret and a DK because I happen to have only 4 pallies at 80 and geared.

I will be lvling my pally team to 85 first, with my DK in it. I think I prefer this team to any of my other teams, which include my shaman team which i have had for years. Lots of love went into my shamans, but pending the outcome of the class changes (which may again prompt me to change my plans) I think that the pally team I have is the most versatile, most forgiving and most fun by FAR..

and I have 6 teams @ 80 now :P I have tried most of them lol

For pvp I would shaman and mages, and guild a shaman to keep a pve connection with the outside world. Work that as much as possible. Alternatively the paladins as suggested previously, but focus one guilded for the same reason.

For pve I would work on role classless / setup similar to this, and swap most of the roles generically. Likely tapping a single tank and a single healer capabile class (though not perhaps in the roles) for leveling for sure so you can easily carry the others.

paladin, shaman, mages.
warrior, druid, hunters.
paladinx4, mage

I would think about staggered leveling the dps with higher level healer/tanks, but not max level to keep the xp decent.

I prob should have explained my time and such a little better to give people a better idea. Boxing is my little side project in WoW it by far and large is not my main timesink, for that I currently have 2 raiding toons that I (try to) keep up to date in my raiding guild. I tend to only have time for boxing on weekends and even then its not the entire weekend or every weekend only a few hours each day.

Im thinking I will almost defiantly go with a dungeon team first up, they can help me build up things(Heirlooms, rep for enchants, badges for gems etc) to make the rest a lot easier. I think now I just need to decide on my tank/healer/dps combo.

So Warrior, Pally or DK tank (I just remembered I have a DK at 60 I wanted to eventually get up for tanking anyway)
Shaman or Pally Healer (Im leaning towards shaman for totems, Bloodlust and chain heal)
And Pally or Hunter DPS (Still want to keep my mages together)
Alternatively I could boost up 3 other DPS(Any class) if I really knuckled down. It would take a serious time sink but I should be able to pull it off as I have a decently geared 80 Priest to boost with.

Would be kinda funny if I went with DK, Shaman, not hunters as it would be completely different to the plan I had mapped out.

A question for when I do get my mages up, geared and into BGs, do people think it would be better to go in with 5 mages, or should I go with a shaman who can buff/heal them even if its only between fights?

Damn why does this boxing thing have to give me so many options all of which sound attractive until I think of something else that sounds awesome.
