OK, so my shamans dinged 80 on Sunday. Since then I'd been grouping as either healer or DPS with guildies to get some better gear before I try to solo any content. Well, that plus I hadn't gotten round to setting up a different config to account for having a tank and healer in the group.

Anyway, I spent some time last night on isboxer getting mouse repeater regions setup and some new keystrokes setup on my G13 (absolutely loving that btw!).....and got that down. It was late so I wasn't going to do a full run of anyway, so thought I'd try it out on trash in UK. So signed up the group interface so I could port straight there...but accidentally selected a random and got HoL instead. Meh, I thought I'd just go with it. So the trash went down with no problems....and noticed that the boss was on his way round with the charge up. So thinking this would be a good test I took him on. Went down with no problems and the toons who didn't already have that achievement got it. Was a great feeling. I'm going to have to try a full run tonight.

Anyone got any suggestions for a good first instance to try a full clear on?

Congratulations :-)

The easier heroics are: CoS (Culling of Stratholme), Utgarde Keep, Violet Hold (depending on which bosses you get - Xevrozz or whatever his name is, can be a pain until you get decent gear and the water boss too, until you know the strat). Also, HoL is pretty straight forward after the Ionar nerf, assuming you have a shaman in your group (for resistance on Loken and ionar).

Good luck! :-)

The team is pally tank, 3 ele shaman and a resto shaman :)

Would that be nature resistances you're talking about?

Fortunately I've played the tank solo for a while, so I know the strats of the instances (from a solo perspective anyway) and also has pretty decent gear so can be fairly forgiving of slow DPS and the healing learning curve :)

By nature resistance I simply meant nature resistance totem :-)

See the appropriate forum for strats, but in short:

Volkhan: Pretty much tank and spank - ignore the adds if you have enough DPS, if not, just move away from them when he's about to shatter.

Ionar: Spread out as much as possible and drop nature resistance totems with all shaman (more than one is not really needed, you just need to make sure all are in range of it). Make a macro for self heal (/cast [@player] Lesser Healing Wave or something like that) and spam it while he's dispersed. Other than that it's just tank-and-spank.

Loken: Keep your chars on follow (or just near Loken). When he starts channeling lightning nova (or whatever it's called) cast chain heal on all your shamans, timed so it will hit just after the lightning nova hits. Also remember to have nature resistance totem up to mitigate the damange.

Edit: The Loken strat requires you to have enough HP to not die from the nova - if you don't you can try the running away strat, but you need to time it really well and it's pretty tricky. In that case I'd recommend doing another dungeon instead, but you should be ok :-)

Violet Hold (depending on which bosses you get - Xevrozz or whatever his name is, can be a pain until you get decent gear and the water boss too, until you know the strat).

The water boss is once of the easiest heroic boss in the game. Each time he splits all you have to do is click those defense crystals and all of the spawns are immediatly destroyed. Very easy dehydration achievement.

Xevrozz is a pain though, that will take some work.

That's what I meant by "until you know the strat" ;-) Still, it's not trivial, you have to try it a few times to get positioning right, since he has a tendency to blow you team all over the prison - especially if you have sub-lvl 187 blues as gear :)

Yeah, as you can see from the character links on my profile, the shamans gear is mince at the moment.

I'm quite looking forward to heroics actually being heroic again :D

Well, I had some mixed results. I went into CoS and all was going fine....did first 2 bosses with no wipes...although I did lose one or two party members on some trash. I mucked up the second trash pull in the gauntlet and Arthus died. I didn't even know that he could be killed :p So WoW decided to reward this by crashing my computer. When I got them all loged back in, I didn't realise they weren't in a group anymore until one was ported back to Dalaran :s So I reformed the group, but the teleport to instance button was gone. So I take him in and run him all the way into Strat again....to find I'm not in the same instance. Too annoyed to be trying to work it out, I decide to give HoL a try.
For some reason, I wipe twice on that first boss. Eventually down him and get through the elemental things...all but the tank die on the stairs. I eat/drink up, turn right on the stairs to take on the revenant thingies...and somehow pull the other group.....wipe :( So fed up I logged off for the night.

I'm not quitting just yet though....I'm still seeing it as a positive that I added another 2 bosses to my downed list. I might go back to doing guild groups for a bit in order to get better gear.
