View Full Version : [WoW] Leveling Speed - How Do You Do It ???

Hello Everyone,
In the time I have been on these forums, I have read numerous posts from various members regarding how quickly they level toons. The latest post I read asked if someone was leveling profs at the same time because leveling to 20 in /played 8 hours seemed slow.
My RAF runs out tomorrow (Wed) at 7 pm, so I have been trying to get teams to 60 before time expires. My results so far are as follows:
5 Warlocks - lvl 20 /played 11hr 54 min lvl 30 /played 1 day 4 hr 5 min
5 Hunters - lvl 20 /played 10 hr 21 min lvl 30 /played 22 hr 3 min
5 Shaman - lvl 20 /played 9 hr 32 min
Main team (Mixed) is at lvl 65. I'll be gifting levels to the other teams, so I stopped them at lvl 32. Shaman team will be 32 sometime wed afternoon.
Could someone PLEASE explain to me the system for leveling these teams faster than this ? Part of my asking is plain curiosity, and I suppose the other part is my competitive Aries nature, but I just don't see how some of the claims I've read on here can be accomplished. I have seen anything from "I can level to 20 in 2 hours" to claims of getting 1-60 in less than 2 days /played. HOW ???
These leveling times are fresh teams, on a new server. No level 80 main to boost. Is that the trick ? Any and all tips, hints, etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I did it with RAF boosting in instances using an 80. Usually did 1-60 in about 20 hours. Then gifted a bunch of levels. When you figure out the tricks you can easily clear an instance in as little as 3 minutes.

Mostly people are achieving greater speeds by boosting. Since you are leveling 5 of the classes you chose you are probably doing so by questing which is why it is slower. At this point I would suggest to you, if you have a main that can boost, is to boost the 4 toons then grant levels to the first toon.
If you don't have a main that can boost and you have extra gold you can pay an 80 to boost your 4 toons, and again grant levels to your first toon. I am just assuming you did your RAF A-B-C-D-E.

i'm lvling 4 pallys with out RaF right now. have them at 36 doing SM cath right now. been using my druid in cat form can easily clear the hole instances in 3 mins. only thing is now that you can clear lower instances so fast you end up standing around waiting for the game to let you zone back in.

Thanks for the responses. I figured those leveling speeds had to be with a booster. I leveled these teams strictly through questing. If I had a level 80 main, I definitely would have boosted them. And yes, the accts are linked
A->B->C->D->E. Kind of wierd to explain, but the RAF link that expires tomorrow is just the A->B, the others have until end of Feb.
I'm sure 4 or 5 teams will keep me PLENTY busy though. lol

Hey Nighthawk
Right now im using a booster and my 4 ret pally team just hit 35 in 12 hrs played
my problem was just standing around WAY too much once I fgured out what I could and couldnt get away with (how far I could be ect) things really started to pick up for me As someone elese mentioned a problem is having to wait for the instance to reset so to combat that I just said screw it and ran SM cath armory and the other one not graveyard though. I figured some xp was better than no xp. This team isnt being lvled with RAF which kind of sucks but meh ill get over it. But obviously if your doing quests its going to be much slower than if you were boosting via an instance. I mean 1 cath pull nets 40% xp for less than 8min of work. But hang in there and use that Prot pally to boost via instances imho.

If you aren't using it already, I highly suggest the TourGuide addon with the RAF package that is here on the forums. You don't have to worry about selecting which quests are boxing friendly or not. It has a nice list of quests in an order that works. The version I have has a few errors in it (coors pointing me in the wrong direction for example), but it generally is just follow the arrow it gives you (load up TomTom as well).
RAF bonus is nice and if they extended it to lvl 70 they might get me to buy 5 more accounts but 60 come on.
RAF boost in ZF starting at lvl 36-37 ish if i remember right. My 8- pally can pull 35 mobs and aoe them down in very short order. I do the whole instance in 4 pulls takes 15 mins because i loot them all. THis will get your RAF guys to 50 realy quick then take them into stratholme when they can enter and do the same thing. I know this is quite boring but questing is even more of a bore and more time consuming. if you have someone who can take you thorugh the BC dungeons in thrallmar til you are 65 or so that would be great as those instances greant considerable xp and are a cinch to solo for an 80 tank class or if you want now that you get xp for BG q them up for AV and sit in dreks room and just let allies kill you while you watch tv get tons of xp and dont have to do shit but occasional damage to keep ppl from flagging you. I lvled up my rogue from 65 to 70 and never left org. This took awhile but I mined ore and did other stuff with my other accounts while he chilled and got tons of xp. The game has become so easy now since compared to release its realy a joke to lvl any char from 1-70 imo.

Tour Guide ... check
Tom Tom ... check
RAF leveling guide ... check
got all of that stuff... just missing that pesky little lvl 80 tank...LOL
My prot pally is lvl 65... I suppose I could use him to boost the teams in SM or (maybe) even ZF, but I don't think he'd be able to handle anything tougher than that.

Using the raf tourguide addon found here on dual-boxing.com I was able to level 3 teams to 60 within the RAF time. The last team (5 pallys) took 2 days played (2 weeks real time) while only doing quests. Prior to this I've only ever leveled a single toon to 58. Once you level one team to 60, you get the hang of it and each team afterwards gets easier and faster.

I'm just over 4.5 days for my team @ 75 (almost 76). I'm use to 4 days played @ 80 but with the collection quests and such it is a pain in the butt and takes a lot of extra time.

My average for RAF leveling was a team to 60 in about 2.5 days /played. With the nerfs to XP since release, you don't need to do nearly as much. Keep in mind, I don't boost -- I quest. With the XP nerfs plus RAF, you don't need to do hardly ANY collection quests and you can even skip a few of the kill quests if they don't open up any other quest lines. Hell, I completely skip STV, Searing Gorge, Un'goro, Tanaris, Blasted Lands, Burning Steppes, EPL and Winterspring. On PVE servers, questing just the easy quests is stupid fast and easy with RAF.

I don't think server type really matters anymore. The world is pretty dead and most people I see don't even engage combat anymore. My current group has never been ganked.. and I'm 75.
So.. feel safe on PVP servers too.

just to reassure you; my /played to 70 on my 5 priests is >6 days (because I did a lot of instances at level for the fun of it; which is even slower than regular questing) - I think it was about 3 days to 60 (I can check from the screenshot later if needed)

My first and "only" MB team, my druids, have an "not so" impressive /played of 11 days to get to lvl 72 (well 95% to 73).
Ohh well, I have learned alot, changed my setup multiple times, run instances right for my level and wiped, wiped, wiped, done alot of different stuff I have never tried in Wow. Ohh and no RAF.

I levelled several teams to 60 with RAF last year purely through questing and those times to twenty seem slow to me.
I don't have figures here but on average it took me about 45 mins per level from 20-60.
The first 20 levels would be maybe 5 or 6 hours? They fly past so fast i don't remember.
I have done this quite a lot though so I'm familiar with what I have to do to level a horde character. My levelling times for alliance chars would be a lot slower.

Thanks for all the input guys. I suppose I just couldn't wrap my head around how people can level so fast. I never claimed to be the fastest leveler in the world, but some of those times are just insane. From what I've experienced through this process, there are probably several things I can do to speed things up a bit.
I also realize I didn't have several advantages that I would have with an established "main" or two. Starting with just a backpack, having to empty it every two quests, messing with class quests, running all over creation, etc, etc.
I know it isn't a race to get done, I was just curious.

The people that level the fastest, are typically the people that have done it a few times (or more). Or they have the support of a guild running them through content.

I did my second group, 4x Druid (Bear, Tree, 2x Moonkins) recently. Dinged 60 at about 3 days 7hours. Though, the last 10-15 levels were done 100% in instances using the random dungeon finder. I could have finished a lot sooner had I done it questing, but the grind got old. Instancing was fun.
My first group I did around this time last year. A pair of Pallies, Ret / holy. They tore through content so easily. I was impressed. I think they were at just under 3 days at 60. Though I stuck to the RaF Tour Guide stuff almost 100%

like i said before, you're on a low pop server so you're opinion on world pvp is going to be highly inaccurate compared to players like myself who see consistent world pvp on a decent pop server and are knowledgeable enough to understand server populations vary. you should think of this next time you come across a topic similar to this one.

Cut out the crap, but I agree with the above. On Kil'Jaeden, I see world PvP a LOT. (if you count 80s raping random zones world PvP). PvP servers are night and day when it comes to low pop and high pop. Look at Cho'gall. That's not a PvP server, there is no world pvp there. it's just a horde server where alliance get farmed.

QFT. And heaven forbid you play on a high-pop server with a large, well-known boxing guild. People will purposely come mess with you just because you're a multiboxer and in that guild. Plus, nowadays, you can create cross-faction alts on the same account on PVP servers, so the stalking can be worse than before.
In short: PVE and PVP low-pop are stupid easy; PVP high-pop is a PITA to even cross certain zones, let alone level in them (e.g.: Ganklethorn Vale, aka Stranglegank Vale, aka "That Grom'gol PVP arena," aka "That place where everyone ganks you when you get off the boat from Ratchet.")
[edit] And at least now they've fixed the "Instance cannot be launched, try again later." problem. Talk about instance camping...

I have never used RAF so I do not have a clue to the goodness I am missing out on but my DK-Shaman team is almost 76 and just at 8 days. They started out as a 5x shaman team but that was kind of a pain. So at 27 I dropped the main shaman and started boosting in SM with my pally. At 35 I went to ZF to boost then to strat at 45 up to 58. That was the last of the boosting for that team. From there I ran them with the DK instead of the pally and have quested ever since.
My lock team I ran to 20 as a 5x lock team, and have since dropped the one and have boosted with the pally. They just hit 47 at 2 days played. Most of that without rested.
I used to run to 20 or so and then try and running the team as a team, but that got real old real fast. I liked the Silvermoon quests and stuff and even took the shaman and druid teams out there to hit 20. However, now I have started the new melee 5x pally team (which is really just 4 because the 5th is the booster). I plan on getting them to 10 and then boosting them as far as I can.
It is not really worth it to me to buy a new account just to get RAF and then pay to transfer the toon to my real accounts. With as many teams as I have, I can rotate around and get the most out of rested. Or run the level 8- mix team and do heroics when the boosting gets old. Guess I am just a glutton for punishment.

Took me under 2days /played for both the teams I have at 60 (5xHunters and 5xMages) Currently working on Pallys(lvl 38 ATM) but I have done a lot of instances with them so not sure what it will turn out like.
I found the first 30 levels took forever and the second 30 go by really fast, Im not sure why.
Im Horde side and have a pretty good zone rotation going for post 30, but before that I dont have anything particularly great to offer.
However you must do hinterlands as horde, that place is worth 4-5 levels in about 2-3 hours, it is by far the best box friendly zone (Horde side, I have no idea about Ally) there is 1 collection quest (Tainted blood)
and its easy even with 5 toons, I never had to go back and find more blood.
