Obviously I know /cast Frost Strike. What I am talking about is squeezing it in in some cast sequence or something of that nature.

For exmple my preist healing macro looks something like

/castsequence Prayer of Mending,,,,,,,,,, Greater Heal,,,,,,,,,, Prayer of Healing,,,,,,,,,,
/cast Dispel Magic

and what happens is he actually auto dispells whoever he is targeted on. I was wandering if there was a way to do this with Frost Strike as well?

Currently when I add /cast Frost Strike at the end of my DKs castsequence is just breaks the castsequence.

Thanks.

the answer to your question is no

I THINK you just need to learn how to play a death knight L:) lol

that sounds kind of dickish however so let me elaborate, you have two types of resources at your disposal as a deathknight

RUNES which come back every 9 seconds
and
RUNIC POWER which is generated by using your rune abilities

your cast sequence hangs up because you have no runic power to frost strike at the time. Generally speaking you should be able to follow a simple cast sequence of icy touch, plague strike, blood strike, blood strike, obliterate, FROST STRIKE * 2. Simply repeat that sequence over and over and you'll be fine
unless one of your attacks fails to land. If it fails to land you wont get any runic power for it, and you'll run out too soon and end up out of runic powers

The way i macro stuff into my dks, isnt a macro at all, i manually controll the dps sequence, however i can offer you some advice and suggest that you put frost strike / deathcoil on a separate key that you can spam quickly to dump runic power when you have it. (ie every 15-20 seconds)

the key i use for my "runic power" dump ie the dumping of all my runic power at the end of my rune cast sequence, is caps lock for frost strike, and shift +capslock for death coil

The ONLY ability that will work in the cast sequence second line like you do on dispel is to /cast !rune strike, which toggles the ability on whenever it procs. This MIGHT still break the cast sequence, and its not an effective dps button.

if you're gonna do anything with a dk i suggest going to www.elitistjerks.com website, find the deathknight forums and START READING !! EVERYTHING you can find there is useful info, and it will make you into a better player over all, reading how things are supposed to be played.

its important to understand why the dispel macro works and the frost strike macro doesnt.

Dispel wont do anything if there's nothing to dispel, the spell fails to cast and its not part of the global cooldown. Frost strike is however, and it also has the restriction of needing runic power to maintain the cast. your dispel would do the same thing on your priest if you had something dispellable and you had no mana. :) hope this helps!

Or... you could just get hit capped and expertise capped and put frost strike after every 4 spells in your macro.

Its not L2P I actually have my rotation, macros, gear, spec etc from DB.com, elitist jerks, personal experience and so on. It is simply laziness. If I can press one less button then I am down for that. I was just hoping someone figured out some way to just squeeze it in without having to mash a button to do so.

I have /cast !rune strike in on my spam button and that is where most of my runic power goes. What happens is when I am fighting casting bosses then rune strike almost never fires so I get a ton of runic power. I can dump it out via Frost Strike I was just looking for a way to automate it like I did with dispel magic. I realized the mechanics probably prohibited it but it never hurts to ask people figure out weird stuff all the time especially with /click macros.

if you follow basic rune power generation then, you only have to do this.

i use focus based system so

/assist focus
/castsequence reset=combat icy touch, plague strike, blood strike, blood strike, obliterate, frost strike, frost strike, obliterate, icy touch, plague strike, obliterate, frost strike, frost strike, frost strike

this should essentially give you a frost strike dump automatically, tho you arent using howling blast anywhere, it can be substituted for obliterate, then the third obliterate again, if you wish. Thats the lazy mans way to do it :)

i prefer this way tho,

icy, plague, blood strike, pestilence, howling blast, frost strike, hungering cold, oblit blood boil blood boil howling blast frost strike frost strike. <-- this sequence would be your ideal aoe nuke, depending on what talents you have to gain death runes. i use a two handed blood/frost spec on my dk's

armory moocrewc on azgalor server t to see the spec i use for all my dks

( i use this sequence for aoe packs)

don't forget to add

/cast !Rune Strike

at the end of your DK macros, it will auto swing Rune Strike every proc, and RS is a huge part of DK threat generation.

btw I prefer tanking as blood since the gear requirements are less (less hit/expertise) plus all the self-heals that blood DKs get is very nice in multibox situations. A prot pally however is much better still for a multiboxer, due to less incoming damage and team buffs.

This is my DK blood tank macro:

#showtooltip
/startattack
/castsequence reset=target Icy Touch,Plague Strike,Pestilence,Blood Strike,Scourge Strike,Death Strike
/cast Blood Tap
/cast !Rune Strike

I have D&D on a seperate key (not used by team), horn of winter is on the same key as my drop-totems, Vampiric Blood is on same key as group heal, Icebound Fortitude is on same key as heal tank, and I have a seperate key for blood DK self-heal (forgot ability name lol).

I'm not a DK expert, but I read on elitistjerks that if you have Frost Strike and are hit capped, its DPS is superior to Rune Strike. So use 1 or the other. Although, the below will still work with Rune Strike with a /cast !Rune Strike at the very end. You just won't see as many Frost Strikes.

Using a /click macro, place /cast Frost Strike as the last action in the /click. This will cause you to fire off Frost Strike when not using any other abilities in your /click macro (the ones in the /click are probably more important anyway). Again, this will use Frost Strike when your other abilities are on cooldown or your Runes are refreshing.

Example (AE mode, pulling manually with Icy Touch, Horn of Winter and following with Plague Strike, using Glyph of Disease and Glyph of Frost Strike):

/click DPS1
/click DPS2
/click DPS3
/click DPS4
/cast Frost Strike

DPS1 - /castsequence Pestilence,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,,
DPS2 - /castsequence Blood Boil,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,,
DPS3 - /castsequence Death Strike,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,,
DPS4 - /castsequence Death Strike,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,, ,,,,,,

4 presses / second. Each set of ,,,,,, = 1.5 seconds worth of presses.
Initial Talented Icy Touch + Plague Strike + Horn of Winter = 35 RP

Timeline - Time / Ability / RP
0 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 9 10.5 12 13.5 15 16.5
Pest BB DS DS FS FS BB Pest DS DS FS FS or HoW
45 55 65 75 43 11 21 31 41 51 19 depends of other RP generation

**EDIT - I had the above table spaced out so it made sense, but the board formatting removed the spaces. You'll just have to take my word for it if you can't follow the table.
