View Full Version : [ISBoxer] Delay on mapped keys makes typing well difficult

I've been using ISBoxer for about a month now and love it. However my sole problem is the slight delay in key transmission when you hit any mapped key. An example using the default mapped keys would be typing:

/p Is the Ony10 at 7:30 tonight?

If I type this at any reasonable speed -- ie. not hunting and pecking and waiting half a second after each key is pressed -- I get:

/p Is the Ony1 0 at :73 0tonight?

Because of the small delay in sending the mapped number keys, even to the master client. Do I have something in ISBoxer configured wrong? Am I doing something totally wrong to begin with? The steps are the "default" keys created with the wizard... for example, DPS 1 is below. I currently can't imagine using a setup like Ualaa's where various letters on the keyboard are mapped, because everything I type would be gibberish...

<MappedKey>
<Name>DPS 1</Name>
<Combo>
<Combo>1</Combo>
<Modifiers>None</Modifiers>
<Key>
<Key>1</Key>
<Code>2</Code>
</Key>
</Combo>
<SendNextClickBlockLocal>false</SendNextClickBlockLocal>
<ResetTimer>0.1</ResetTimer>
<ResetType>Never</ResetType>
<Mode>OnRelease</Mode>
<Steps>
<Step>
<Stick>0</Stick>
<Actions>
<MappedKeyAction xsi:type="MappedKeyExecuteAction">
<Target>self</Target>
<KeyMapString>General</KeyMapString>
<MappedKeyString>FTL Assist Me</MappedKeyString>
</MappedKeyAction>
<MappedKeyAction xsi:type="Keystroke">
<Target>all</Target>
<Combo>
<Combo>1</Combo>
<Modifiers>None</Modifiers>
<Key>
<Key>1</Key>
<Code>2</Code>
</Key>
</Combo>
</MappedKeyAction>
</Actions>
</Step>
</Steps>
</MappedKey>

No, nothing is wrong. The "delay" you are getting is the result of the key being sent when you release the button as opposed to when you press it, and the use of backspace for the assist binding in the game gives the garbled message look. (I should change that default to something else)

You can change the behavior per Mapped Key (Execute a Step when the Hotkey is ____), but if you're typing in the chat window and need to use hotkeys that you have mapped, you should simply disable them. When you're typing that message you don't need your entire team to hit 1,0,7,3,0. This means hitting Shift+Alt+M assuming you used the Quick Setup Wizard. Or you can set that hotkey to Pause if you like.

Yeah, it's hard to hit saM every time I need to chat if I'm grouping with someone else (I 3-box) and need to tell them something really quick :). I also have a terrible habit of forgetting to turn off mapping when chatting in guild, and my slaves end up doing a happy little totem and thunderstorm dance :p.

Still, thanks for the reply. What do you suggest regarding the backspace assist binding? Wouldn't I get even worse garbling if I bound to something different? Or do you reckon that binding to, say, ctrl-] would help?

I've changed my assist button from [Backspace] to [Back Slash " \ "].

Whenever I type something, be it /say or /gu or /trade, I disable keymaps.
Once you get into the habit, its is quick and easy.
Coming from Keyclone, and already used to the pause button when chatting, this wasn't too hard to become a habit.
Learning to use the pause key, well guild was spammed a lot the first couple of weeks.

One of the first thing I did was change the keybinding for assist. The Alt-backspace was causing me the same issues when chatting. I need to get into the habit of shutting off keymap but than I would also have to remember to turn it back on

I have spammed the guild a few times. Luckily everyone has a good sense of humour about it... so far :)
