View Full Version : Dual Monitors + Ultra Settings = Boom?

Long time lurker here. The tips from this forum have been very helpful and I've been happily dual-boxing for about 6 months.

However, today I have a few simple questions:

With a dual monitor setup, does having WoW on both screens "stress out" the graphics card?

Is it "safer" to keep WoW on one screen and use the second screen for web browser/vent/etc.

I know these are fuzzy concepts but I'm kinda scared and this is why ...

I run a dual monitor setup with two 21.5 inch LCDs. Main on the left screen, alt on the right screen. Beautiful Ultra settings and Max resolution on both. Was getting a solid 60/30 fps on the main/alt everywhere but the most crowded areas in Dalaran ...

And then my computer blew up. It was the RAM but the whole experience freaked me out.

I would like to continue dual-boxing while keeping my computer in one piece. Any suggestions are welcome. I hope this incident was just a fluke but if you think what I'm doing is putting undue stress on the computer, please let me know.

Running as Duel view or Horizonatal View and what OS you use. XP doenst like duel view much can only run 2 wow's on Duel have to go horizontal for more. But i have no problems with 2 wow's on duel view i have 9800 1G Nvidia. Just sounds like you have bad ram and that caused the blow out. Dont be frightened to run 2 wow's on one card, i ran 4 on the one 9600 512Mg card for 70 lvls and heaps of heroics without a prob on just 2g ram. Hope this help current set up is Aspire g7700 quad core sli 512 nvidia 2 gig ram main comp second is duel core single 9800 1G with 4g ran (runs me 2 alts) oooo i run alts on lowest settings and get no lag even in Dalaran. maybe set your Alt to lower settings to take some strain off card but other wise 2 wow's on one Gcard is still fine.

Thanks =)

I'm running Windows 7. The monitor setup was really simple. I haven't got the new RAM yet so I can't use the computer to check but I have it so the menu bar with the windows start button is on the left screen and the right screen is just blank.

System specs are:

Intel Core i7 @ 2.66 GHz
6GB DDR3 ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 (single card)

coolies you are running Duel View and W7 should handle both pretty good. Yar just think it was bad ram and you should be fine when you get the new stuff.
