View Full Version : Gold making tip, borean -> heavy borean

I just made a bundle (edit: no pun intended) buying up all borean leather (40s-60s each), converting them to heavy borean leather (which sells for ridiculous amounts now - about 6g each on my server, and selling them.
6 x borean leather = about 3g
1 x heavy borean leather = 6g (minus 5% AH cut)
Also, artic furs still sell for more than the price of 10 borean leather (which is the exchange rate), but the profit margin is a lot lower than borean -> heavy borean.
Depends on server economy of course, but might be worth checking out :-)

Shhhhh! Don't tell everyone the secrets!
Seriously though, there was a couple of articles on mmo-champion few months back about how to make gold with professions using these sorts of methonds. About an hour after the first article went live, economies across servers began to dynamically shift. lol
What I'm trying to say is - if everyone is doing this, the obvious profit evaporates. lol

hehe, yeah, a big difference is that mmo-champ has like a gazillion readers, we have a lot less - I doubt posts in here will affect the wow-economy, so I figured I'd share with the community :-D

We don't' have so many posts, but there are a TON of lurkers. But ya, valid point all the same. :)

There has been a fair amount of talk on here recently re: profit making in WOW. It got me to thinking that I'd LOVE to see someone do a Master's thesis on the WOW economy (if it hasn't already been done).
UPDATE: And google (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Ykz&q=world+of+warcraft+economy+thesis&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=) yields this

specifically:
•Nine Master’s students at KTH, Stockholm
•All looking at “money and economy in and around online games”
–In Star Wars Galaxies, Eve Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Ultima Online, Ragnarök Online...
•Master’s thesis = 20 weeks of full-time work
–10 weeks reading, preparation, analysis, writing
–10 weeks full-time study
•Results will be published (on the web) during 2005
–Five finished this far

So they got to play all those games for a Master's thesis? Dang! If I could have only done one based on D&D/AD&D back in the day when if you wanted 3D graphics you had to have ummm help (I did not inhale). :) Oh well, guess I'll settle for my BS in BS with my Master's thesis in more of the same and of course a PhD (Piled High and Deep). :)

Would not only a letherworker have need for the heavy leather? Unless you bought up ALL the borean leather on your server the only people you would sell to would be people who could do the same as you did ......
Do some people buy up trade skill items to take to a guild mate or someone who could make the materials into something good for the? Seems to me thats a very small market.
Im still making a killing on netherweave bags, made enough to take my tailoring to 442 (swift spellfire carpet yur mine soon!) and lethercrafting to 431 (can make the pvp stormhide set for all my shaman if I wished).

Too risky on my server, not much demand for leather, and while there's a sweet spot where you could double your money, there's just too much on the market, and too many undercutters. I'd want to do this overnight, or over a weekend, and there's no way I'd sell more than a stack or two. People don't make or buy the good leather stuff, badge gear is easier to get. Armor kits are the way to go, to sell to people with badge gear. :)
In fact, might be time to look at the costs of armor with the new vendor arctic fur...and the current prices...
Leather has always been cheap on my realm, it's cheaper to buy it for patterns than farm it.
edit: Nope, already figured out, there's a flood of armor kits on the market.

I discovered it when I was shopping to have the ilvl 245 pieces (chest, wrist) and the ilvl 226 boots made for my rogues. I guess it's server specific but there's usually very little heavy borean for sale and all the stuff I made sold overnight (which was like 15 stacks at 110g per stack).
I think the recent demand for leather is due to the lower prices of crusader orbs which makes the ilvl 245 tradeskill pieces really cheap, so everyone is getting them. Eternal shadow is selling for almost 10g each also, and price seems to be going up still.

I used to make gold this way since i leveled LW on my solo druids months ago, has always been possible. Another tip is Heavy borean armor kits. increases your market a bit. :)

It has probably always been possible, but the recent rise in price of heavy borean has made it a lot more viable :)

I just looked again - the profit margin is 1g per stack of Heavy Borean. Not worth the effort, frankly.
I looked at the leather stuff I could make - again, it's all selling for less than the mats, only the TOC and above recipe gear sells.
I'm on a original 20 server, if there's a way to make gold, there's 1000 players ahead of me. :) If I had the money to move to a newer server, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's okay, I have ways to make money, in my economy.
