View Full Version : Handling Emergency Situations - how do you do it

So there's an entire area of my setup that I've never figured out. How to handle my 'oh-shit' buttons.
Every class has it's oh-shit abilities designed for when things go south. I run a 5 class team so I've got all these separate abilities for semi unique situations and I have never figured out how to macro them.
Here are my current binds
1 - not used
2 - main dps spam
3 - for fights where I need to swap dps off the main assist to nuke down adds quickly.
4 - heal macro
5 - currently used for heals but can be discarded for something else.
Everything else is basically open. I haven't been using modifiers which I know could consolidate some keys and whatnot. I'm just not sure what direction to go and wondered if anyone had a slick setup they could attempt to explain to me. I box on a mac so I'm limited to what plexer can do as far as broadcasting goes. Can't have a kepyress of 1 on my main execute ctrl+1 on a slave or anything fancy like that.

My "OH SHIT!" ability is called "Release". I've got it in a macro on all my characters.

Bubble and run with Pally, come back and rez others later. lol
Seriously though, if one might die, just let em all die, corpse runs with follow macros is easier to me than flipping through screens and having to manually click on an icon to set someone to follow the other dead guy and control this dead guy while the other sit around open for attack.

I end up in trouble quite a lot. :P
On all my toons i have a swiftness potion bound to the same key. So its basically: taunt, bubble up and run like a mofo.

If one dies I let them all die. That is if it was a true Oh Shit moment. My Oh Shit maneuver in that case is to get one of the shamans to a safe resurrection spot.

i run the standard 1 pally 4 shammy group and my oh shit button is thunderstorm and chain heal, prolly wouldn't work for you since you have a mixed group, but anything that can get mobs away form you long enough to heal is = win usually

Might be helpful to provide the classes your using, otherwise you going to get the 'release' or 'press buttons' comment.

I run Paladin / 4x Shaman or I can drop in a Warlock or Druid or have 2x Shaman/Warlock/Druid it depends on how I feel that day. Currently I'm focusing on just the Shaman though and once there geared will gear up the other two more.
Thunderstorm, drop AoE Totems, drop Fire Elemental Totems. Taunt of anyone iwth aggro, drop a BoP if I'm out of taunts. Spam Chain Heal.
Quite often refresh of totems and walk clones backwards gives me ample time to pick everything up on the paladin again though. I have two specs, one if for raiding and the other is for bursty snap aggro in heroics which makes use of Seal Of Command and drops a little mitigation and other toys that are great in really long fights but not in heroics where a boss or trash fight is lucky to last 30 seconds.
It sounds like though you really want to re-evalute the way you play - at the moment it seems like if things are even slightly out of your comfort zone your screwed. 1 thru to = just do normal moves for all my characters. I use G6 on my Logitech Keyboard for my click macro. G5 for RR Spell Interrupts, G4 for everyone to stop casting and drop a big heal on the tank. G3 Bloodust, G2 Fire Nova, G1 ReloadUI.
Shift 1 All Heal Self LHW, Shift 2 All Heal Self HW. Shift E All Chain Heal Self. E Purge/Taunt, Q RR Thunderstorm, Shift Q All Thunderstorm.
And tbh my setup is a bit meh I really need to fine tune it and do some playing around but for now it 'makes do'. Yours sounds even simpler than mine and you might find if you have alot more of your tools and abilities availible to you that you might live alot more often.

Summon the water elementals and freeze the crap out of everything on the screen until I'm calmed down enough to polymorph stuff. Half the time I just let my characters die because it's actually faster than having to wait for rezzes and rebuffing.

In general if my tank dies fairly fast in a fight its usually a wipe. But if its nearing the end of a fight I keep fighting on with the rest of the toons.
I run 5 druids and my ohshit button is "8" on all chars.
It pops relevant trinkets (I had one which absorbed 1500 melee damage on the tank), survival of the fittest on the tank I think its called (rage into health), lifebloom etc., all dps chars drop out of boomkinform and cast rejuv on the tank.... if it looks like an incomming wipe to many mobs to handle and the tank is about to die I use hurricane (pushes mobs away) and run of with one of my dps (with the lowest threath) and use shadowmeld in a safespot so I can rez the party - dosen't always work lol

With my druid team, I use a conditional macro so that the next druid switches into bear form if the preceding tank is dead.

I run a mixed team (Prot Paladin, Moonkin, Shadow Priest, Arcane Mage, Resto Shaman) and my oh shit button is, as above , release & run.
If what's killing me is just a really tough fight rather than me messing up, I tend to write macro's for the fight specifically (as required for Herald Volajz), using all their unique abilities as appropriate per fight.
