5 Computers.... trying for 40 Wows.

I managed 35.. only about 30 were "playable" using DSL and Cable bonded together. The main problem is the upload speed.

Damn... even just using ice lance to single target stuff, that's 12k damage to a single target instantly, assuming 0 crits! Wowhead lists drek and vanndar at 370k hp. Assuming ~1500 for a non-crit frostbolt, all 40 mages would only have to cast 6 times each (again, assuming 0 crits) to kill him...


So are you upgrading your internet connection then trying again? If all goes well do you think you'll actually play 40 characters at once, other than with trial accounts for kicks?

How do you bond DSL to Cable? I've had bonded DSL lines before but that had to be done at the isp level. Unless your not talking about true bonding?

I don't think you can do it in windows but you can for sure in linux. So if you use a linux box as a router connected to multiple internet connections you can split the load between them.

I ran 8 each on 4 separate dual core machines and 8 on my quad core machine.

VERY slowly. I didn't turn down settings or turn off sound or anything though.

FPS were.... horrible.

Let's just say that when I got them all to the Zep... (between the hard lock reboots which took out 8 at a time) ... I loaded into UC with about .1 seconds before I loaded back.

Running 5 clients on one machine for 10 minutes (actively killing mobs) my average upload was only 3KB/s with spikes as high as 24KB/s

a BV2 would work and cost a lot less. a T3 would be some disgusting overkill. Now Id love to have a T3 to my place for the cost of cable but then I dont live in japan :)

I just realized I had vent and teamspeak running at that time. No one was speaking in my channel but you can most likely attribute the spikes to my vent/TS updates.

I've never seen WoW go over 6k/s in either direction. 90% of the time its at under 1k in the upstream and 2k in the downstream.

1mbit plus upstream and you shouldn't be running into too much drama.

iirc Xzing had 10 accounts? you could easily activate 1 account, then use scroll of resurection chained onto the other 9, then you can send up to 5 trial invites from each of those... that's 50 accounts ;)

Not that complex, I just created all of them, no scrolls.

Remember 1 mBYTE connection is not the same as 1 mbit. 8mbit = 1mBYTE.

It is possible that had I used more computers that the cpu/video card loading times were also part of the issue..... but even when things were stable with all 30+, follow lag was pretty bad.

I experimented with Verizon dsl and Comcast cable. Have a multi-wan input router as well, but that didn't work out great. Anyway, I was able to hook both up to one computer, 2 nic's. If the cable disconnected, dsl would take over, until the cable came back on. I absolutely hated dsl though, so I got rid of it. Cable gives me 20Mbit now, so I'm happy.
