farming the first mobs in hc, dont it about 10 times and no luck - is that about normal? also, how long do you wait for respawns?

I quantify my Hilts as a per/hour basis :) It took me a little over 5 hours per Hilt.

Pro Tip: The little skeletons in PoS all drop epic loot too. Go farm the first half of it, skipping the drake riders and the stupid monstrosities. I guarantee that's the fastest way to get Hilt drops.

blizzard changed the drop rate with the last server fix (3 days ago) .. it's very very low now.

So which is faster...

Farming the heroic for the very very low drop rate hilts.
Or generic farming of whatever, to buy them on the AH?

i did nothing but heroics all weekend and never saw one drop. the only one i saw was my frist run through HoR the day after patch went live. they seem to sell pretty cheap on the AH, but theyre sold so fast that ive never even seen one.

Farm gold, in heroic IC.

I don't know if it's better to farm cash and buy hilts or just to farm the hilts themselves. If you have an enchant you can make a ridiculous amount of gold doing Heroic PoS trash. I guess it depends on what seems like more fun to you :)

Battered Hilt is the new Baron Rivendare's Mount. Btw, from what someone else posted in another thread, they sold it for 30,000g. So unless you can make 30,000g / ~6 hours, i'd say farming the hilt is faster.

Depends on server aswell Zal, 30k is ridiciolus price, cant be that many that buy it for that ammount.

i gott be up to atleast 14-16 PoS full clears of trash and not one hilt.....on the other hand i sold 5 of the primordial things from emblems of frost for 20k yum!

If you could get one every 6 hours, then farming hilts directly is better.
But if the drop rate is every 100 hours or so, I'm sure I could farm well over 30k in 100 hours.

or just raid ICC and get higher item level weapons!

Well, first drop took me somewhere between 10 and 15 clears of the trash in FoS; Now I realize that it's barely not worth it over my dual-bladed butcher - Maybe one of the shamans should get it.

I've cleared PoS heroic mobs about 8 times and no hilt so far. i've only ever seen one on the AH and it was 15k which is still too much for my blood. Droprate nerf really fucking hurts... :(

tried selling mine for 19999 gold; people were laughing in the trade channel about it but when i logged on mule after raid it had sold in less than 2 hours - Think I might be doing this for cash for a bit :P

It really depends on your server's population. Just like any other new item that can be sold the more people on the server the more that will be sold the cheaper it is.

Blizzard up'd the drop rate by a good chunk. they haven't said the drop rate but my guess would be between 1-5% compared to it's previous .1%'ish. So have fun farming the crap outta these places and enjoy your new weapon.

At the same time they removed the ability for the Skeletons to drop epics, which is imo~ probably an overall nerf if you're JUST farming for hilts. For people who casually do the instances it's a boost.

Indeed..

They actually incresed the drop change of it but it can only drop from the elites, so kinda requires a full team to farm it now :)

I've been farming the hilt for a week now and pre 16th "fixes" the hilt would drop around 1 per day (10-15 trash clears a day).
After the changes I haven't seen a single hilt drop, obviously the skelly nerf caused a lot less mobs that has a chance to drop the item but also read up on a different change,

"Q u o t e:
has anyone put thought into what the hot fix did:

-stopped skeletal slaves from dropping the hilt (around 50 slaves per instance right?)

-increased drop rate among other mobs

so in turn blizzard didnt do anything to the hilt drop rate, they nerfed it by not allowing skeletals to drop it, then buffed it by "increasing" the drop rate....

they did absolutely nothing....

The increase in drop rate is more significant than the removal of this item's chance to drop from Skeletal Slaves, particularly for those clearing all three wings as intended."

and .....

"Q u o t e:
So that is what i was trying to figure out, their play on words on top of me being tired is ftl but can you better elaborate about this? From what i gather is that the drop rate is like a SoV, the more you do the instance as intended the drop rate stacks and increases right?

No, the drop rate is flat. You have a fixed chance of getting the item every time you run one of the dungeons. What we did in these recent fixes is substantially increase that chance and remove this item's ability to drop from the creatures most frequently and easily being farmed for it."
