SSD Decision

I've been mulling over purchasing an SSD for WoW. From what I've read, I should not try to put the OS on a cheaper SSD (which is what I am going to buy).

So, here are my choices:

The Kingston 64gb is a nice price after rebate, but slower access than the OCZ or the Patriot. Am I quibbling over the read speed versus size? 64gb is more than enough for WoW (heck multiple WoWs if I want to), but with read speeds that are twice as fast, that might mean a smoother game?

All three options are MLC drives.
The OCZ and Patriot are smaller but much faster drives.
The Kingston is basically double the size and half the speed.

It depends on what you want.
Any of the three, will be a lot faster then what you're using.
The Kingston will be the least improvement, but it should be a huge improvement over what you have.
If you need the space, and its the only one in the pricerange at that price, its a good choice.
If 30-32GB is enough space, the other two options are twice as fast.

If you go with the faster drive, I'd take the OCZ as it seems to be rated better, by customers.
The Kingston seems to have a similar spread of customer satisfaction, if you need the space.

Thanks, I went with my original hunch and ordered the OCZ. I figured I should get the fastest drive I can and size is enough for now.

Anxiously awaiting it in the mail. :)

My next step will probably be Win 7 64bit.

I've read Win7 handles the SSD's much better then previous versions of windows.
And the TRIM command or utility (not sure exactly which) will be coming soon.

TRIM is kind of a defragment like thing, but for SSD's.
Basically makes them run much better, as time goes on.

As you can see from the reviews, not all SSD are built the same. Seagate just came out with some enterprise class SSD drives that look to be built very well. Just be careful you don't go out and buy something you will just be disappointed with.

I am using Kingston V+, which is a higher model of the one you mentioned.

I installed Windows XP and WOW in it with no "Slow OS" problem. Actually OS problem can be solved by optimization http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=313841

This newer model requires no optimization at all, I just installed XP/WOW and go. performance improved dramatically and finally no lag in Dalaran!!! It costs AUD260 but worths every cent I paid.

Highly recommend upgrade for every boxer with lagging problem in Dalaran/Wintergrasp

I got my drive yesterday and was impressed with the ease of setup and how smoothly WoW ran on it. While I didn't experience OMGWTFBBQ! I did see WoW run smoother and had better FPS than in the past in Dal.

So, my first upgrade went smoothly, I'll be seeing what is next on my list.
