Hello all ... I'm new here and had a few questions. I have been reading the forums here for a couple weeks now thinking of trying out the very cool sounding idea, but the more I read the more I end up confusing myself. Wow that makes me sound noob. sooo, let me appoligise first by sayin sorry if this turns into a long ass post.
first off, my system stats:
AMD Athlon 64 dual core 4600 2.40GHz
2 gig ram
400 gig HD
Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT
19" Dell flatscreen monitor
I built the system about 1 1/2 yesrs ago, and up until now I thought I knew what the hell I was talking about when talking computers, but you all have proved me wrong. Thank you for setting me straight. 8)
Ok, I want to run with 2 hunters. I have been playing a hunter for 2 1/2 yrs and love them. Pet tanks, I pewpew, group wins. yeayyyy
From what I can figure out, I need Keyclone ... but I tried reading thru the tutorial just to get a feel and got REALLY confussed the farther down I read. I need to copy my WoW folder with the exception of certain parts .. uummmm oook. and I need the other tool (can't remember the name now) to split my screen. Did I miss something other than getting a 2nd accnt??
I keep seeing ppl say to read and everything is here, but I have been reading for about 2 weeks now and I'm more confussed now than I was when I first seen the shammy video on utube. I don't want to sound like an idiot, but can someone just walk me thru it all? Hell, if anyone that is already doing this lives in Orlando, I'll fix you a nice steak dinner if you come over and help me figure it out!
Ok, this is too long already. Thanks in advance for the flames and advice all together :D

Hi crzywolve and welcome to the forums!
it is very possible to over think the situation. let's see if i can simplify it a bit.
first off... you don't have to get keyclone.. there are some free alternatives.. keyclone is just the easiest (and some may say the best :) ) solution.
assuming you go the keyclone route (i mean... who wouldn't)... this is what is takes:
1. download keyclone installation binary (click link on website)
2. run installation and take all defaults
3. run keyclone (it's in c:\program files\keyclone)
4. it will be 'expired' since you have no license, click 'get license'
5. pay for license via paypal (i strongly recommend paypal cash or credit cards... eChecks take 3-10 days)
6. click 're-check' on keyclone
7. run your wows
8. click 'override' to suspend keyclone (unless your password is the same on both accounts)
9. log into your wows
10. click 'override' again to enable keyclone
11. hit spacebar.. watch both characters jump
at that point, you are multi-boxing. beyond this point you have:
o in-game macros to set up (follow and assist minimal)
o set up keyclone commands to ease start up (optional)
o maximizer layout to be cooler (optional)
o define do-not-pass and round robin lists (optional)
that's pretty much it. as you learn more, you will find more things in keyclone you can utilize... but to just get started, you don't have to do much.
there is a pretty big skill distance between just multi-boxing and getting a 2k rating in the arena.. but there in lies the challenge...

Once again amazing support - I recommend your software to anyone interested in multiboxing not wanting to spend the cash I did for my hardware setup. :)

thanks Slats... just good old American business practices (that many American companies have to re-discover...)

ok, that makes ALOT more since than what it looked like before. So, with that would the 2nd account basicly be a mimic of the 1st? ex: if I roll 2 new hunters and control hunter1, does everything I do with hunter1 happen exactly the same with hunter2 (providing that I have all abilities in the same bar locations)?
Also, just how do I do the folders I have read about? I tested out just trying to load up 2 different WoWs in windows mode and it looked like it would load. Do I really need to create new folders and all of that?
Thanks :)

This is a case where knowing too much is a bad thing ;) Most of the posts in that thread are more advanced things you won't need to worry about while beginning.
As far as copying wow folders goes, that's optional. It's merely to have seperate/different addon installs and video settings for each char. I personally run all 3 on the same install/folder.
If you have the hotkeys the same on both hunters and Keyclone is running with Override not on, yes, they'll both use that skill; by default Keyclone will pass every key press, you'll have to mess with the do-not-pass/Blacklist/WHitelist to set keys that should or shouldn't be passed(movement keys for example, as it's basically impossible to move chars in sync the way turning controls work)

sweet! I'll have to look into that part later tonight then. I might even look into a 2nd monitor just for the ease of seeing both toons fully.
any chance of a point into the right direction as far as a thread that explains the movement and all? or is it something I would do inkeyclone its self?

movement can be done with keys.. but anything more then a short distance and they will get out of position.
mostly, you will need to set up a /follow macro on all your alts.
then add the movement keys to the do-not-pass list... or ONLY use the mouse to drive (its not bad once you get use to it)
and if you add the WASD keys to do-not-pass... remember to add shift+WASD
add NUMLOCK while you are at it

The "Big button" macro will be your best friend:
/targetfocus
/follow
/assist
/stopcasting
Make that into an ingame bind and hotkey it on each char to the same key; I have it bound on all 3 chars(in case of switching mains) to alt+3(Which is why I asked you about that, Keyclone ;p) and set your alt's Focus to the main/lead char; press that anytime follow is lost or you want to set your alt's targets to yours, but keep in mind there's a full second delay between selecting a target, and "Target of Focus" updating on the alt's screen.
You'll basically be dragging the alts around behind you the whole time, it'll be weird at first maneuvering them around corners and through buildings/doors but you'll get used to it; someone else on the forums said it best:
When you solo, you're like a Kia: Go where you want when you want
When you're multiboxing, you're like an 18wheeler: Take wide turns to compensate for the extra length ;p(Though in confined twisted areas such as Mage/Orc/Zeppelin towers this is damn near impossible, walk 'em up one by one)

so I'm getting closer to actually starting the boxing :D this weekend I will be "lateraly aquireing" a friends account that cannot play anymore because of life issues.
I have also changed my idea of what to play. I already have a 37 TaurDruid. So, I'm going to roll another one and run 2 druids. I'll prob lvl as ballance spec, but then when i have it figured out and get better by 70, I'll prob have one spec'd Boomkin, and the other resto. I'll worry later about how to do that since the "mimic" part will be gone and I'll be micro-managing both. THAT will be interesting.
I also just aquired a 17" crt monitor from a friend. It was sitting in his closet :D so now I will have 2 screens and no money out of my pocket lol wish me luck there lol

Ok, so here is the situation ... I got a new account (gameStop battlechest for $39) and I have been testing over the weekend with a few different duel class setups. So far, I'm thinking hunter/hunter for PVE and mage/mage for PVP (those are basicly the main ones I play anyways)
I got Keyclone (THANKS ROB!!! :D ) and it works great!!
SO, here is my problem ... I keep running out of space on my bar!! I know, I know .. everyone says to get a new UI that key binds .. only problem I have is, I have NO CLUE how to do that!! (wow, I just felt sorry for myself a little)
I have read thru several stickies and have seen several different UIs posted. Can someone please give me a good couple of suggestions?! Since I can no longer use the point and click bars like I do alot on my regular main, I want to use something that will make since (at least to me) and then get on with it.
Thanks in advance
Smitty

look for the wow addon 'bongos'... should work for you
Before you frighten yourself with Bongos and completely mess up your current key bindings...
Have you turned on the additional bars in Advanced Interface Options? You can have two vertical bars on the right of your screen, a bar on top of your normal bar and another bar on top of your bags/settings/etc.
You will just need to modify your key bindings for these bars.
By default your main bar is bound to 1-0, -, =
Your pet bar is bound to CTRL 1,2,3,etc
Very dangerous is SHIFT 1-0 which will scroll your active main bar. I suggest unbinding SHIFT 1-0 or binding it to a fixed bar.
And then you still have ALT available.
So if you make the 2 additional bars on the bottom of your screen visible you will have a total of 36 buttons available. Binding the 2nd bar the same as your main bar but with SHIFT held down makes it pretty easy and you can do the 3rd bar with ALT hold down. This way you can keep CTRL for the pet bar or if you macro the pets you can re-use CTRL for a bar as well.
-------
Warning with Bongos, make a backup of your WTF folder before installing Bongos. I installed Bongos2, got presented with a crapload of frames when I logged on that would take some serious time to get scaled and positioned effectively.
I removed Bongos2 from my addons as I wanted to do a quick instance run and then I realized Bongos2 unbound all my hotbar key bindings.
So if you are not in the mood or don't have the time to reorganize your UI completely then don't install Bongos. Or at least make a backup of your WTF folder so you can put your keybindings back if you decide not to use Bongos.
