As per this thread (http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=26727), I am looking to build.
But I don't think I am willing to spend that amount of money just yet. I am just looking that will be suitable to what I am looking for.
I plan on 5-Boxing. That I am sure of. However, I don't think I'll need the top of line right now. I only play WoW.
I'll be using only one monitor and one computer. But, alas, plan on 5 boxing.
Should I look at the older Intel/AMD Quad cores? Or should I just suck it up and spend the $1700 AUD and go with the newer i7/AMD X4 builds?
Or can I achieve 5-Boxing with a cheaper alternative?
I am basically looking for a cheaper way of 5-Boxing. What would you all suggest?

It all depend on the settings you want.
My POS laptop that is 3 years old and is a dual core can quad box... 3 at LOW settings and 1 at medium.
If you want smooth, you get what you pay for.

My only concern would be with Spell Detail, and such.
I wouldn't mind going at the max settings. But I would say the only important one, would be the main screen. The slaves can be limited to 15FPS, and don't need to be even close to max settings.

How much are you looking to spend?
What kind of overall performance are you looking for? Able to do AV smoothly? Able to go to dal smoothly? What exactly?
I'm running a Q6600 and see no point to upgrading it. Likewise, DDR3 never really got that far beyond DDR2...and the bandwidth/latency available was fine, you just need to have some solid capacity (~8GB) to handle a 5-box on one system. 8800GTX runs fine as long as I turn my slaves down (which I don't even notice since they're there to alert me to issues and let me take direct control if necessary which simultaneously shifts focus and removes the FPS cap...) and I even ran an old 7800GTX for a while with only minor slowdowns once during an RMA.
WoW is old, its system requirements are a joke these days. Multiboxing raises the stakes...but mainly with respect to CPU cores, memory space, and graphics pipelines. Anything quad-core is ample for the first, anything around or above 8GB is ample for the second (well, DDR2 or newer), and anything midrange or better should be ample for the third.
Oh, and a 24" or 26" monitor is awesome. And a comfy/responsive mouse. And a durable keyboard (I <3 mechanicals).

I am looking at around $1500 AUD, and that includes the OS, and peripherals. (Monitor, Mouse, Gaming Pad).
I can squeeze the lemon and possibly go around $1700.
Dalaran and AV being smooth (30FPS is fine).
I'll be using the team to mainly run heroics and learn 5 Boxing. And go from there.
The only difficult part, is that I am in Australia. So prices are a bit more expensive here.
As much as I would like to go the Core i5/i7 or AMD X4 route, I don't mind going the Quad Core's from the last generation. (LG775/AM2 builds).

Yaki, would you mind posting a full build?
I don't need you to point out peripherals. Just a case and its guts. I am having a hell of a time coining something within my budget.

Mid range graphics cards are OK? What about UALAA talking about GPU bottlenecking for 5boxing etc?

That's what I am trying to stay away from.

I feel like I am missing something. Can someone check this over?
I can wait on the keyboard/mouse since I can borrow a couple from work and always purchase them at a later time.

nice setup.
You will need more RAM to smoothly 5 box. usually 1gig per toon and 1+ for OS/other stuff.
Are you looking at this setup lasting some time or a year or less. Like people said a Q6600 with 8 gigs and the smae Video card will do all you want for now, and it would be $300 cheaper roughly

I wouldn't mind going that route either.
WoW is all I play, and don't really need the best of the best either.
Also, I plan on buying the computer this Friday on payday.

ok you will need a Q6600, a D45 MB, 8 gigs of DDR2 RAM, and a video card. The other parts should be fine, you can scope out the prices on the web site of choice.
