Would it be viable to use two parts of the Tidefury Raiment set, dispite the lack of good stats (other than the 2 pieces set bonus)?

Tidefury Raiment
http://thottbot.com/?set=630#

Chain Lightning
http://thottbot.com/s25442

Running some number crunching I’ll will see that this set bonus adds 15,01% total damage to you’re chain lightning (assuming you hit 3 targets)

Chain lightning base dmg 734-838 ( average 786)

Normal Chain lightning having 30% reduced dmg per jump would give:

(786 * 5) + ((786 * 5) * 0,7) +((786 * 5) * 0,7 * 0,7) =
3930 + 2751 + 1925,7 = 8606,7

Chain lightning with two pieces Tidefury Raiment gives

(786 * 5) + ((786 * 5) * 0,83) +((786 * 5) * 0,83 * 0,83) =
3930 + 3261,9 + 2703,4 = 9899,3

9899,3 / 8606,7 = 1,1501 = 15% more dmg

Can anyone figure out how much extra spell dmg, crit or int you would need to upgrade the items in the slots equipped with Tidefury Raiment pieces to justify replacing them.

Or should one just ignore this and go for other pieces with better stats since you would use LB more often then CL anyway.

as 99% of shaman are pvp, they will most likely want to go for pvp gear it offeres more survivalbility than the 70 bop blue pve sets, aka dungeon 3.

its impossible to compare this set to work out which is more damage effective, but i can almost garantee that its actually the pvp sets, even the season one gear, it has more spell damage on it, not alot more, but what will make a difference is the crit rateing thats missing on the tidefury set.

and then theres the time invested to get 5 lots of each part what ever it was you wanted to go for, best 2 i can see would be helm and kilt as they have pretty good stats, not amazing but not bad. also a small amount of crit. it was hard enough farming for this set when i got my shaman to 70, before all the arena stuff really got serious. I did shadow labs sooooo soo many times for the kilt and never saw it, likewise for all the parts, i only managed to get the gloves and that was it.

and its only a 3% damage buff per shaman, so really you got to ask yourself, do you see many raiding elemental shaman holding onto their tidefury mixing and matching it with t5 and bt gear to keep that bonus?

Back when 60 was cool, I ran Backdoor Strathholme 62 times to get the Beaststalker pants to drop. Thats just one peice on one character. (I think it was something like 3 - 4 months of random runs). (that was also when the PvP system required no-life-at-all to get gear).

Think of how much honor your could rack up in that time just running battlegrounds instead, then instead of blue D3, you move straight to purple S1?

And there has been a LOT of whining about how S1/S2/S3 gear performs "too" well in PvE settings, trivilizing the T4/T5 gear (and the pain it takes to get it all).

Battlegrounds = Sure thing. You WILL get the gear at some point, it just takes time.
Instaces = You may NEVER see your drop. But you'll get a shit load of enchanting mats to sell and make lots of cash. :P

my brother had to run mech (or was it arc) 49 times to get his shaman piece. I had to run SV 19 times to get my beastlord shoulders and ive talked to people who have done 3 times that and still havent gotten it. If you absolutely freaking love to run those instances than more power to you if you get 5 sets of dungeon 3 but fur has a point lol. imagine how many pris shards you would have after all that

I cant wait :D

4 Piece Arena Gear bonus is 70% chance to not be interrupted while casting Lightning Bolt - which is probably in my opinion the best set bonus an Elemental Shaman can have in the game, which trumps anything else. I considered the Tidefury set in the beginning but it won't cut it later on, especially with the massive gear upgrades you can get elsewhere.

The 4pc on the Elemental is totally amazing.

I have it on my resto shaman for soloing.

God, 5 shamansx70% pushback resist in pvp...sick

Point taken...

Allthough it's not a 3% dmg inc per shaman. it's 15% for 1, for 2 or any number of shamans...

Just thought for PvE that might seriously help burning down pulls of 3 or more mobs in Heroics or whatever...

Shaman PvP: Arena Gear/Honor rewards
Shaman PvE: LW. If you're too cheap, heroic badge gear/ZA. There are 2 elemental drops in kara (ring, BBW head) plus the lightning capacitor.
For the average 5-boxer, in PvE, Kara/ZA is unreachable. Which means LW/heroic badge gear is pretty much it. There's a few pieces of heroic drops you can collect, but collecting it times 4-5 shaman is rough. The good news is, if you take LW, that gear will last you to BT.

Put isn't that grinding LW on each toon to 375? 375x5 = $$$$$$$$

Not that its a bad idea, its just way expensive!

Making money with 5 tunes is easy.

I just spent 26k gold getting epic mounts * 5 :)

1. run any TBC instance
2. DE every drop into large pris and the rare void
3. hope for a primal at end to make armor kits(in the 70 instances of course)
4. ???
5. profit :)

Im already doing it at my low levels. just from grinding instance I had over 90 large glimmering shards on hand at one time (enchanting is now level 165 and have yet to purchase a single mat and I still have atleast 20 of every shard my level left; large/small glowing/glimmering), yes its the lowest level ones but you get the idea :) And LW is a cheap prof to level compared to most others (engineering/smithing/jewelcrafting) even if you dont skin.

Yep. You better have an enchanter or I'm going to cry. Disenchanting is my #1 source of income, and it's paid for me to level 300'ish ench/350ish jc/350ish engi/340 lw.

Between 3 gathering professions (lw/mining/herb) and 1 sorta-gathering profession (ench), you're never short on moneh. Furthermore, it doesn't take long to aoe down some lowbie beasts to get some lowbie leather. The raptors/dragonkin in dustwallow marsh were good when I did it.
