View Full Version : Gearing shaman for 5/10 mans, haste vs sp

As you can probably imagine I'm mostly focused on PVP, but I do grind heroics occasionally for gear and gold. I don't know a ton about the mechanics of shaman dps or how to gem. I'm also interested in 6 manning some 10 naxx stuff as well as the 5 man icecrown stuff.
My main question is about haste vs spell power. At one extreme I can push 3200sp unbuffed with about 29% crit. Of course I can get haste up pretty high going down to about 2600sp and a little less crit. A little less of everything overall if I have to go for 25 man hit cap.
In general I will be doing 5 man - what kind of stats should I be going for and where do spell power and haste intersect?
Thanks

I get all of my PvE info from elitist jerks, so if you want it from the horse's mouth, best to check there.
Basically however point for point:
hit below cap>SP>haste>crit.
Once you are hit capped, SP will always be better than haste point for point. There is an intersect point obviously, but from memory it is a long way above anything reachable. I tend to prefer haste over crit when gemming there. Easy as that. Saying that, if you have 3200SP 29% crit, you could probably have -30% haste and still smash every 5 man currently available.

There are certain specific point ranges where haste is better then spell power and thats only because you could squeeze another LB inbetween you LvB. But timing this stuff prolly isnt very beneficial for multiboxing so the answer would be straight spell power.

Go for hit till capped and after that go for pure spellpower.. You dont need anything else :D

So a ton of spellpower does fine with 0 haste? Since my pvp gear is all around lvl251 and I hit the 5 man hit cap pretty easily, that is the set where I can hit 3200 without totems - but I'll have 0 haste (resilience instead).
On the other hand if I swap in some lvl 226 and lvl 200 stuff from toc, I get a lot more haste but spell power drops to like 2600-2800.
Reason I'm so interested in haste is the posts/videos of 5 man groups killing bosses in 10 seconds - when I look at their stats they had stacked like 600+ haste and had considerably less spell power.

Hm tested on training dummy with heroic hit cap and did 4.6k in all pvp gear... and like 4.2k when I swapped in a bunch of lower level haste stuff. I guess the extra lightning bolts don't really help

spellpower has a higher coefficient, so ya stack it up.
Ele: SP >> Haste > Crit >> all else (assuming sufficient hit/sta/int)
Resto: Haste > SP = MP5 > Crit > Int
Note that haste has some thresholding behavior for Ele depending on the situation...you can't cast 1/10th of a LB.
