View Full Version : Please describe YOUR most effective way to funnel money between ally and horde toons on same server

I hope this is not against the ToC...frankly, I can't see how it could be :)
My server population is rumored to be 2.25:1 in favor of horde. I took a look at the prices of high end mats and they're significantly cheaper on the horde side. I had created a bunch of rogues for the pilgrim achievement and ended up parking one in Org and using my ally druids, I escorted another to Booty Bay. I put up some junk for sale on the horde toon and bought it using the ally toon. Wow, needless to say I was a bit shocked by the AH fee charged for this. I offered up the junk at around 1k gold. I think the AH fee was like 150g if I'm not mistaken.
Does anyone else here do this?
If so, is the rate charged by the neutral AH a scaling one? or is it always a fixed %?
Is there a more effective way?
Thanks for your help as always.

The neutral AH is a fixed%.. I have been doing this for a while now selling Tourney pets to the other side. it is a flat 15% fee like you found out. So whether you sell it for 1g or 10000g.. its always 15%.

The best way would be to sell your opposite faction toon a 1 copper item through the AH, like DE materials or frozen orbs, and buy it immediately then resell it on the auction house on the other side.

^ this is probably the best way to minimize the loss.
I end up just transfering money and taking the hit on the auction house fees.

Best thing is to buy stuff that sells well and just transfer it for like 5-10g. Enchanting mats, gems, Faction pets, crusader orbs and stuff. That really have no listing price and move the items. I made thousands (like 20k) just off of selling pets back and forth for like 2 weeks. Once you get about 3-4k gold on each side, you can make tons of cash.

Be careful of Ah snipers that steal your stuff if you sell it cheap. Do it at off times or when you are sure no one is around. I've had a few pets bought out this way.. even though I had both my windows open and tried to sell and buyout at the same time.. Now that both sides have a fair chunk of change I don't mind taking the hit from the fees by listing them higher. I at least have my items safe from bots and what not.

Being a multiboxer, one theoretical way to keep that from happening would be to place characters at each neutral AH and have them on simultaneously in order to be sure that noone else is near a neutral auctioneer anywhere. Bit overkill I guess, but for the paranoid, or someone that knows for sure that someone is out to get them, it would be the best way to be safe.

Just raising a point, something that you need to be aware of. I don't believe it to be a huge issue but its something to be consciensous about. was not happy to see my 160 seals worth of pets bought out by someone for a total 4g. lol.

You are charged two fees when you use an auction house in wow.
The first fee is the listing fee, which is a deposit.
This fee is based off of the vendor price of your item.
If the item sells you get all of this back.
If the item fails to sell, you forfeit this amount.
The second fee is the auction fee.
For the faction specific auction houses this is a flat 5% of the final sale price.
For the neutral auction houses, this is a flat 15% of the final sale price.
If you plan to use the auction house to transfer wealth, you will need at least 2 accounts.
But I wouldn't recommend going this route with less then 4 accounts.
There are neutral auction houses in:
-- Booty Bay, by the bank/mailbox.
-- Booty Bay, the lowest level of the house closest to the inn.
-- Everlook (Winterspring)
-- Gadgetzan (The only building that goes underground)
You will want a toon at each of these places, to ensure there is no one else at any of the Neutral Auctioneers.
No one at any auctioneer means, only you will be buying your items.
You will want to transfer enchanting mats.
They have no vendor value, and therefore the listing fee is basically nothing.
I believe I'm charged 1 copper per stack at the neutral AH's.
So you could list with a basically broke level 5 alt, which you have RAF summoned somewhere.
You can list the items for whatever you want, but lower is better.
You end up charging 20 copper per auction, even if you list something for 1 copper.
When you're the only buyer at the neutral AH, you'll list everything at 1 copper buyout price.
You definitely want a buyout price, so your opposite faction toon can buy immediately.
Auctioneer greatly helps, because of the Appraiser feature.
You can control how much to list each item for, how many are in the stack and how many stacks you will list.
Further, the buyer should have the auction window already open.
With the search terms filled in, so you just have to click search.
Which is less time for someone to approach a neutral auctioneer and snipe your stuff.

Since you're online on both an alliance and a horde toon just use:
/who Stranglethorn Vale
/who Tanaris
/who Winterspring
on both toons.
If there is a character in one of those areas, with a level that doesn't fit in that area you could go check it on a third toon. If there's a lvl <10 in one of those area's, you can be pretty sure it's a bot and you can't transfer items savely.
They use a bot that buys anything on the AH that is a % cheaper then the normal price on the alliance / Horde AH(So it doesn't matter if you price things at 5 copper or 10 gold for this bot). Since it will automatically buy cheap items, you pretty much can't be faster then the bot. My advice is to just wait and try again.

If you think there's a bot at the auction house, take advantage of Appraiser for Auctioneer.
Go and pick up some absolutely useless low level item from a vendor.
Get 500 or so of these.
List 490 of them on the neutral auction house for 200,000 gold each.
List them in stacks of 1.
Then list 10 more of these, for the bargain deal of 500g each.
As to avoiding competition sniping your auctions.
We are multiboxers, and can easily park 4 toons (one per account) at each auctioneer.
It takes 2 seconds to visually check if the auctioneers are alone or not.
Which is a lot more reliable then /who commands, and hoping no one is at an auctioneer.

On a pvp server you can get nude and oneshot the AH bot. Most of them seems to be dumb enough and don't know how to get back to their corpses :)

Agree...:)
If there is a bot, let it buy something and then report it.

I have noticed another AH in over near the vendor building in Booty Bay... just near the guy that sells the special code items. I will check it out again tonight and update this.

Could be an interesting way of making money...
However, I think that you might be better off listing stuff for 2000g each and put the remaining 10 in the ah at 50g each
And if you can do it quickly enough, you might even be able to do it several times :D
I like free gold that you get off rip off merchants :D

It's probably not a good idea to rip off a bot.
I could care less about ripping the bot off, but it could be "manipulating" the economy, which is against Blizzard policy; they have nothing against charging a lot for things, but not sure where that crosses the line.
For a more specific idea of where the guys are in BB, google for "warcraft +neutral +auction". The article lists four neutral auctioneers, and I did indeed find four.

Theres no violations for manipulating. And posting auctions that AH scan bot buys from you is no violation.
The only thing you would get hit for is if you recieved gold from an account flagged as a gold seller, or sold to the gold seller.
