Leveling a warrior with heirlooms atm and having some fun since hitting 80 with a few toons. i got pretty much one of every class 60+ if not higher. after reading success of melee boxing i was wondering on group make up etc. So far i plan on using: warrior-tank, shaman, druid, and two other spots. As i can go melee or ranged dps depending on class any input on which is better for heroics? sorry if post format came out weird on a phone at work!

With ranged DPS, you can attack from melee range, max range or anywhere in between. With melee, you only have the melee range option, which makes some fights extremely painful. I'd much rather have ranged DPS. There are some folks on here who have been successful with melee DPS, though that means just as much as the 5-shaman teams that have cleared heroics recently. Sure, it can be done, but is it efficient, profitable and fun? All depends on your preferences.

Thanks for the input, it certainly help for class choice. Any suggestion on the make up? I was thinking along the lines of priest healer, with shaman elemental, balance druid, and a hunter not sure on spec atm with warrior as tank as i mention earlier. Any other input from experience member is appreciated.

What do you want to accomplish? Heroics, Raids, Arena, BGs, all of those have different "best" group setups and have some obvious caveats regarding how well they do.

Heroics mainly just for gearing. I would solo for raids though. After looking at my planned setup im thinking of dropping the hunter for a lock just for curse of elements boost.

A pally as your tank is a lot easier to box with then others.
But, any tank class you want will work.
And until heroics, you might not need a tank at all.

I've found a priest to be the best healer, discipline or holy (although I prefer Disc).
Again, any healer type works, but a druid or priest seems better.
They have mobility with their healing and good AoE heals.
A shaman works too, and if you don't have a shaman in the dps, they're probably the top pick.

For a caster group, you'd want one of: Unholy DeathKnight, Balance Druid, Warlock for the 13% spell power buff, which is huge. Of these, a Boomkin needs to manage Eclipse procs for optimal dps.

A lot of people are experimenting with all melee groups.
Both for PvE and PvP, but you need some form of heals.
Pallies can self heal somewhat, other 5x the same class aren't likely possible.

I'm using half and half these days {in sig}. I've done all sorts of combinations of DPS and I personally really like my current setup the most. I don't think I could manage it without the shaman as a healer, a single chain heal on anyone in my group is enough to keep most everyone topped up. And I get a nice amount of passive healing and mana restores from Divine Storm, Judgement of Light, healing stream, mana stream, Judgement of Wisdom and Replenishment. Plus a ton of resists on demand.

All ranged may be easier and less to worry about, but I personally have a lot of fun with my mixed setup.
