Alienware, owned by Dell, is launching this beast. I believe it uses a lens patented by Oxford University and sold by www.seamlessdisplay.com but don't quote me on that. I tried to buy one ~ 3 years back but the pricing was simply nuts for a lenticular (?) lens and 3 flat panels. It was in the 5 figure range.

Eitherway, it needs more screens :)

"Only" 5 megapixels though. 3 "independent" screens.

How far it sticks out is like 1/10, if that on my monitor buying criteria list :)

The sighting: We can't have one of these Alienware curved monitors until the second half of this year, but until then, we've been abducted by its four nearly seamless and sharp screens of DLP goodness. Lit by LEDs, this 2880x900 monster is well over three feet wide and is said to have an other-worldly .02ms response time, great for gaming. The Soylent Green: You can see the seams between this monitor's four segments, but the Alienware humanoids tell us that flaw will be gone by the time this craft lands on Earth. The blacks look a bit washed out to our eyes, too. Price is yet to be determined.

According to: Gizmodo (http://gizmodo.com/341413/alienware-curved-monitor-looks-like-its-from-another-planet)

I wonder what it weighs.

for seamless display stitching check out http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/thesis/ the video on Automatic Projector Calibration... Towards the end they use the technology to seamlessly stitch 2 projected images together.

It also demonstrates projecting onto non-flat surfaces.

Also of interest is the Wiimote head position videos on an adjacent page

How do you get 2880x900 to equal 5 megapixels? Its about half that.

NEC is working on an ultra-widescreen too.

2880x900 and probably cheaper then the Alienware version. Most of the specs are still unknown.
