So, now that my 5 shaman team is on its way...the thought of professions came up. One of the shaman (the one who will be replaced by the pally for PvE) already has mining and engineering. I was gonna split the rest of the professions up between the rest of the team...probably missing out inscription. For the DPSers it won't really matter all that much what they have.....but I was thinking that the healer would be quite an important choice.

I was thinking that the healer should have jewel crafting and enchanting. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If you dont have any other alts, it's a good idea to spread the prof's around, but if you do have other alts who are already maxed on the main prof's, then I would go enchanting/mining on 1 and alchemy/jc on the others :D

Thats a good way to make money :)

All professions basically offer similar "profession specific benefits" now. Just mix it up.

I have everything but inscription, engineering and skinning. I have JC and enchanting on two different toons. JC is nice due to the daily and you can get the recipes faster if you don't overlap between toons. I did enchanting on two because I had tons of mats [from DEing] from leveling up tailoring, blacksmithing, leatherworking and JC.

Not sure what the easiest profession to level is, depends on your server (availability of things like thorium).

I plan on doing all of the professions....what I was meaning however what would be most beneficial to a resto shaman.

I was thinking that the ring enchants and either BS for the extra gem sockets or JC for the better gems...but wasn't sure.

I gave my resto shaman tailoring and Alchemy. Darkglow embroidery plus the meta gem plus Potion bonuses means he hasn't been in a situation where he is out of mana in a very very long time.

What meta gem would that be? I've got an alt with full alchemy....but don't recall any meta gem.

I think BS and JC offer the most flexibility in what stats you want to enhance. Other professions like enchanting offer only STA, SP and AP [via the ring enchants].

You cannot go wrong with BS and JC. The only other considerations are the "non min/maxing" benefits of some professions, like the gem transmutes and double duration flasks in Alchemy.

You have a few choices really.

a) Take what is most useful for PvP or PvE.
b) Take what is most useful for gold generation.
c) Don't bother much with tradeskills.

For PvE, I'd look at inscription, as the shoulders a bit further ahead of the Hodir shoulders, the other professions are ahead of their counterparts (example Enchanting rings vs unenchanted rings); plus that way you don't have to worry about Hodir faction at all.

For PvP, Engineering seems to be a very strong choice across the toons.

For Gold, you can concentrate on cooldowns, or you can attempt to have one of each profession and then use arbitrage to play the market. Look at the cost of the mats, and what you can do with the mats, and if there is a difference in your favor. There will be a lot that are good, and most won't be, but you can offer to buy stacks in trade, and make what is profitable; you'll make a lot more per hour buying mats then you will farming. In general gathering skills are good for low-income/starting, but production skills make more down the road.

Alternatively, do a mix of these.

Just talking about getting the Insightful Earthsiege diamond meta gem. 21 intellect plus chance to restore mana on cast. This gem's effect and the effect from Darkglow embroidery are really nice.
