View Full Version : [WoW] Faction change + transfer - experiences?

So, I'm about to take the plunge, but before I do, I wanted to hear if anyone else had done it (I assume as much) and what experience they've had with it - what to watch out for etc.

For instance, will payment be locked after three charges (i.e. three faction changes)? Can this be countered in any way? Can I risk faction changing and then being unable to transfer? Or transferring and being unable to faction change?

I did 7 at once and had no problems with payment, I believe this is purely based on your credit card company. You can transfer and immediately faction change (this is what I did.)

I considered transferring a horde team that I have at 70 to another faction+server. I was curious about how long I would have to wait or if I can do both the same day.

yes you can and I believe this is answered in their big FAQ.

The reason that I'm asking is that when I've started up from a break - I've been able to activate three accounts, and then had to wait one day to activate the two last. Same with expansions. But I guess that's due to my bank then. Weird stuff.

I just checked the character transfer faq and the restrictions and disclaimers faq. No info there. If you have a link, that would be appreciated :-)

Most likely..... it kind of scares me how much I can do without raising a flag on my credit account. I have done probably $500 worth of movement in a day and every transaction went through without a hitch.

edit: sorry it was a blue response and not a FAQ.

I think that post is about the cooldown (i.e. no transfers for a 3-day period) - I meant the credit card thing. But good info never the less :-)

One thing I did was get a debit card with my PayPal account. I can circumvent the three hits to your card rule this way.

Oh sorry I have no info from Blue on the credit card issue. We are the exception as multiboxers though, most people would transfer one or two characters. So, I'm not sure that Blizzard even realizes there is a problem.

I transfered 5 back to back, with my visa check card that is tied straight to my checking account. So your mileage may vary, but I didn't have any issues. but may want to check with your bank / credit provider so they don't flag it as suspect and lock you down. The last thing you want is to be in limbo over the holiday and have to be one of the many on hold Monday morning.

When I first started 5 boxing, American Express declined 3 accounts when the monthly cycle came around. They had put a security hold on it for too many charges. A phone call to them straightened it out. Had no problems with starting all the accounts though strangely enough.

The account activation limit is based on IP / Network card ID. You can only activate (upgrade) three accounts from one IP adress / PC within couple of days. The another try is blocked with just Error 202 (?). It can be country/region specific feature, not sure. I had that too in EU though.

There is no official info, since it is anti-fraud feature i guess. The official blue response to deal with Error 202 is to clear browser cache, which is something that can't solve it of course.

I had to use another PC and connection with different IP to finish my upgrades to WotLK.

Great, that's exactly the info I was looking for. I have VPN access to some work stations, so I guess I'll just finish the transfers on them if the problem should arise :-)

Yeah i got stopped at 3 "Online Upgrades" to trial accounts when I started the last raf group. But my faction and server transfers all went through.

The faction transfers all went through for me in under an hour. I screwed one up myself and canceled it so I could run back and get something real quick. So that one took the whole hour, and Blizz kept an extra $$ hold on my CC for the failed attempt until it expired.

The server transfers took even less time and by the time I did the last one I could start logging in over on the first one at the new server.

Overall it was fairly painless, aside from the cash outlay. I'd call it better value for the $$ if I could transfer all characters from one faction to the other at once, or from one server to another at once, or even just combine faction change with giving the option to move servers at the same time.

Just for future reference - the transfers + faction change went through without any issues, so no problem there. I had the same issue as aboron with upgrades, but apparently it's not the same policy regarding transfers :-)
