I've been racking my brain about this recently. I cannot decide what I want my 10box team to be. I do not plan on doing naxx or any wotlk 10mans. My main goal is to clear all the old school instances like mc/bwl/aq/zg and perhaps some TBC stuff.

I know the mixed one would be the best for buffs/utility, but I never really liked mixed teams since I've played teams like 4 hunters, 5 paladins, 5 shamans, 4dks.

So I'm wondering what group you would choose to 10box through the content I mentioned.

If you're going "solo" 10 man, you're going to want every benefit you can get.

Mix and match toons until you get everything. It is possible to over stack Shaman and just brute force it, but I wouldn't suggest it.

And I'm pretty sure you can 5 man MC/BWL/ZG/AQ20 (AQ40 twim emps and Cu'thun are stupid though)

I think you will really want to do Naxx and VOA once you get your team made. Once you get a few achievements done and see thise characters all in action its pretty crazy.

The tenbox group i am growing looks like this, the >3 groups are sidebar replacements for the positions in group2. The Group 2 characters are dps dualspec for heroics.

One thing I can say is that you will never want for epic gems, tokens or de mats.

Make it a mixed team of all the different ranged casters. There's nothing more difficult about making different classes. The only thing you need to do is choose specs that will be the simplest to box with (frostbolt mage, for example) and build castsequences that will give the greatest utility. All of the thought and challenge is in the setup of the castsequences. Once you built a good DPS sequence for each, you don't have to think about it anymore; just push the buttons. Also make other buttons do similar things, like a button for puge+spellsteal and for interrupts, for AOE, etc. You'll have some special buttons to drop totems that only the shamans use, or to change druid forms, but it's not that hard to remember. With a mixed team of shamans, druids, priests, mages, and warlocks, (one of two of each) and paladin tanks you'll have every buff you could ever want. The only thing you lose from mixed teams is the ability to micromanage your spellcasting, but having mark, fort, spirit, int, auras, blessings, bloodpact, moonkin aura, and totems all stacked up at once more than makes up for that, and makes you harder to kill.

My 10Box setup:
Unholy DK
Protec Pala
4 Elemental Shaman
Mage
Moonkin
Resto Shaman
Holy Priest

Substitutes:
Warlock for DK when OT wasn't needed
Eventually switching specs between Priest and Moonkin to SPriest and Resto Druid

I didn't try hard and was able to down 7 raid bosses with these guys. At the time, Pala+Elem Shaman had heroism badge gear+5m heroic gear. The others had mix of blues/heroic/heroism badge.
