I`m currently running my melee team and I have the wow healthbars above that targets turned on. Easyer to select the right targets for me and I know which one to attack and which players I can just mooow down with Divine Storm while running past them :D
I`m wondering however if it would be possible to remove the healthbars on pets and totems, those just mess things up for me.

I think there are two ways of viewing it.
Hit 'V' and you will see enemy bars.
Hit 'Shift+V' and you will see friendly/group bars. I think it is 'Shift +V' or 'Alt+V', one of those.
However, if you are looking to remove the bars on enemy totems and pets, I do not think there is a way. I agree though, it does make it a bit hard sometimes to click around the enemy pets and totems; especially when they are moving around a bit.

I thought there was a mention of Blizz revamping the nameplates, perhaps in the upcoming patch, perhaps not until Cata. I'll see if I can find it.

Unit Nameplates
The range at which players can see unit nameplates has been increased by 40 yards.
Unit nameplates are now subject to line-of-sight limitations in certain situations (this does not pertain to objects like Arena pillars or bridges).
Players can now adjust select unit nameplate display settings listed below under Interface Options via the Names tab.
Friendly/enemy pet nameplates can be toggled.
Enemy totem nameplates can be toggled (friendly totem nameplates are never displayed).
Players can choose whether or not unit nameplates overlap.
Unit nameplates for critters are never displayed
.
Alternately, you can try Aloft (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10864-AloftBeta.html). I know you can configure it to show All name plates, friendly, enemy. I know you include or exclude critters in the nameplate function, and I'm *pretty* sure you can include or exclude totems, pets and companions. If I recall, it was kind of heavy on the resources, and took a while to configure, but if you're not concerned about that, it's a really nice addon.

This post mentions an addon called 'Overhead', but no idea about whether it is a current addon or what..

It might be a plug in for the Tidy Plates addon (which itself has changed since the linked post was made), sorry, I have no clue after that! Only that I keep meaning to go back and make something similar work myself, when I can be bothered.
Khatovar's info sounds nice!
Except the critters. How else can I kill those pesky Prairie Dogs? :p

lol, you critter killer! You're supposed to /love them!
You can scale the critters on and off by level or health. Like you can set it to show level 5 critters, but hide level 1 critters, or show only critters with health over a certain number. That way you didn't have to see nameplates for every cockroach in Plaguelands, but could still see them for the turkey spawns in Howling Fjord.
