View Full Version : Transferring characters for recipes

My first post here so I'd like to thank all the posters at Dual-Boxing.com for the great information here. A little about me I've gotten a mixed group (pally, priest, druid, warlock, mage) to 80 and cleared HToc and a bunch of other heroics. Have my shaman team to 66 atm. These characters are on the US-Ghostlands server which is a medium pop/not very advanced in raids server. I dont raid anymore on my characters, stopped about 1/2 way through uld to stard mb'n.

So for my question, I have an 80 on Illidan a high pop/advanced riding server. Recipes are extremely cheap. What sells on Ghostlands for 8K (and rarely) I could get on the high pop server for 350g and in bulk. I cant belive that I would get in trouble with Blizzard if I transferred the character on the high pop server back to Ghostlands after buying all I could. But, what if I transfer over a dk to Illidan that would be loaded with all my gold, bought all I could and then transferred my other character back with the loot? Think Blizz would have a problem with it?

Since I'm not rich, this would be a one time deal. I couldn't justify the RL cash to myself to do this repeatedly.

Thanks for any input.

I'm sure they'd be just thrilled with the idea, because that means more money for them :D People have transferred back and forth for other reasons, as well.

A couple of things to keep in mind.

- Not sure what the lock out timer is for transferring, but I'm under the assumption, you'd have to wait at least a few weeks, or a month, or so, before being able to transfer back.

- Depending on your level, there's a maximum amount of gold that you can transfer.

I believe the cooldown is 3 days.

On a sidenote, is a deal like this allowed?

Server A: I play with my main here and you with an alt.
Server B: I play with my alt and you with your main.

I send you 10k gold on server A and in return you send me 10k gold on server B. No real life cash involved whatsoever.

With a friend/someone you know it's doable, but it's an incentive for scammers of course. Just want to know if something like this violates the tos.

Reason I post this here is that it might save him 1 toon transfer

Zenga that is not against the rules. I was able to do this after I asked over realm forums before and all blue has said was be wary of scammers. trading it amongst friends is ideal. Alot of folks won't do this though.

It doesn't, but this is entirely trust-based, so caveat emptor!

Only 3 days?

Goodness.... that's kind of tempting. I've been dreading getting the last 90 tokens I needed for my remaining two pvp mounts. haha. I wonder how much of a headache it'd be transferring and then transferring back.

Does anyone have any experiences with that? I'd hate for it to mess up my rep, or quest count, or anything like that.

If you don't trust the other person, just send the cash in smaller chunks.

I.E. Instead of demanding 10K in one big load, ask for 10 payments of 1K each. That way the most you can lose if they prove untrustworthy is 1K, not the whole thing.

From paid char transfer page: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=20558

Character Restrictions:

- Every character to be transferred has to be at least level 10.
- Characters carrying too much gold are not eligible for transfer, as follows:
- Level 10-30: 300 gold limit
- Level 31-50: 1000 gold limit
- Level 51-69: 5000 gold limit
- Level 70 - 80: 20000 gold limit
- An individual character may only be transferred once every 3 days.
- As a security precaution, Death Knights can only be transferred once they reach level 60.

This has potential.

Transfer a level 70 toon, with up to 20k to a high population realm and then back to your own realm.
Alternatively, transfer from your high population realm to a low population realm and then back.

Either purchase recipes/items way cheaper then home, or sell for way more then normal.

Your business trip is 3 days, during which your toon is not home for whatever.
So we're essentially "buying" gold with real cash, but in a way that omits gold sellers entirely and it totally within the EULA/ToS.

Sounds like a good idea.... kinda like the real world economy.... stuff that is abundant in some areas is very rare in others, and in a capitolist economy, with supply and demand running the show, selling the right thing in the right place can be very profitable. Are there any reliable ways of viewing another servers economy without making a bunch of lvl 1s (and looking very suspicious IMO, tons of new lvl 1s running straight to the AH..... looks like gold spammers to me...) I bet tons of us have a toon that they could do without for "business trips"

Thanks for the replies guys, especially the one with the offical blizz stance. So lazy, I should've looked that up. My plan is to use 2 different accounts because I want my pally off of Illidan back to Ghostlands. Maybe I'll just make a dk on the same account and transfer that way. I'll start a guild on Illidan, deposit all gold that character A transfers from ghostlands with, withdraw with character B, and then transfer character B back home.

It feels slimey, but it started off more about getting the patterns than anything else and not having to pay 8k for something I see at 350g, then I got greedy thinking about it. If I end up going through with it this weekend I'll post back and let ya know what kind of g i make off the deal.

thx again.

It's the same idea of using the neutral AH to transfer higher selling items from one faction to the other.

I believe it was the opening of AQ..
The resources to gather were different for each faction.
And one guy was buying the alliance turn in items, horde side cheap.
Transfering them alliance side, selling them, purchasing horde turn in items cheap, pocketing a chunk, transfering items back to the horde.
Then selling the horde turn in items, pocketing a chunk of the proceeds and repeating.

He posted that he made 25k over the few weeks the opening of the gates event thing was going on.

This is the same principle, just with transfers of toons, instead of playing a neutral AH.
Actually Blizz allows character transfers with up to 20k gold.
And they don't let you trade with your own account, even across factions.
So this is a more legitimate method.

I did end up doing this. In the end the deciding factor was that I wanted to get my 2nd pally onto my main server. So I figured, what the heck the extra $25 to transfer the gold over on another character wasn't a big deal. $50 invested, from what I have seen from advertisers in trade chat gold sells for $9-10 / 1Kg. I felt I needed to make a 5g gold profit from doing the transfers.

I bought crusader orbs, i245 crafting recipes, and a few eternals. I learned the patterns I wanted, used the orbs and posted the items. I am slowly posting the recipes. Once the patch hits I'll start making items for my team, but want to stay with the market right now before prices drop a bit.

I'm looking at a conservative estimate of a $20Kg profit. I wish I have been more detailed oriented to give you guys an exact breakdown. The key has been getting the orbs so cheap, learning the recipes, and posting the items. Additionally leatherworking patterns have been incredible. i245 leatherworking patterns were bought for 50-100g and I am undercutting the market on my main server and selling them for 1200-1500. Being able to buy them so cheap....I have a lot of them to sell.

Have a good weekend :)
