2 cards one choice look at dozens of reviews still toss up. What card is better geforce 250gts 1gb or Ati Radeon 4850 1gb. Final thoughts for wow. Both same price just curious. Cause the geforce requires 650w power supply the ati requires 600w.

A lot of folks have good luck with ATI but I will never touch them again, except as a last resort (e.g.: NVidia dies off completely). I've been burned too many times by crappy drivers and hardware bugs.

Seconded^

I have ATI 4850. While great cards when working the drivers have issues. I still get the occasional "blackout". Thankfully the OS recovers the drivers and the blackout last only for 10-20s. I get this about 1 time every 6-8 hours of play.

I tolerate it because I don't want to buy new cards. There have only been a few cases where the blackout hurt me during play.

so the ati drivers are that bad huh? I was thinking of getting a ati 5870 too :(

I have a evga 260 core 216 and it performs decently, only 189.99 at the the egg if you are interested

Not for everyone. Just relating my experiences. I've had artifacting and z-buffer issues on just about every ATI card I've owned, up through the x1800 series which was the last ATI card I have (it was free, so I can't complain that much about it). I'm sure there are probably system tweaks and special methods for getting the Catalyst Crapware running well but I've yet to figure it out. With NVidia, I just install 'em and I'm done, no muss no fuss. The ATI cards and drivers can't be complete shit or they'd be outta business already. I'm just saying they're like Chevrolets for me; sure they run but I just hate all the little problems I have with every one I've owned.

Assuming the GT300, or whatever they end up calling it, comes out by the summer.
I'll take a hard look at it.

I'm not really that impressed with my HD 4870 X2.
Not sure how much of that is the X2 issue with WoW.

But pretty sure I want an X1 card.
And it looks like GT300 or a 5870 will be the options.

I prefer Nvidia cards, had too many problems in the past with overheating ATi cards and rubbish Catalyst/Omega drivers.
Currently running 2x EVGA GTX275OC 2048MB in SLI (which has no effect in wow, but Crysis and Bioshock run really great)

Strange, I have had nothing but good times with ATI with one exception. When I start up windows, sometimes it doesnt recognize the graphics card and you dont see anything on the screen (well this is what I assume is happening hard to know when you cant see shit). It doesnt happen often, and just requires a restart to fix. I dont like bugs, but I figure this one is ok as it never happens when I am playing, only when I start up.

No problems with Ati here either though it is no secret that Ati cards have had more problems with wow than Nvidia

I run an ATI 5870 and i have not had a days problems with it, all games i try run flawlessly.

I then run my old 8800 as well for secondary monitors.

So 3 monitors off the 5970 and 2 of the 8800

But i have to say the 5870 is a very nice card.

I recently went from GTX285 in SLI to a single 5870 btw. .........the 5870 is better....and way cheaper......not to mention a single GPU solution AND Direct X 11 ready

oh yah...it also uses less wattage

Next question is with windows 7 and video cards and monitors. How many monitors can windows 7 accommodate more then 3 or no. Im actually thinking 2 more monitors turn those two sideways and do pip for 2 chars on each.

You are also using IS, correct? Still no firm answer on doing it on just Win7
