Truthfully, I have always wondered. Is there a actual benefit to multiboxing? I mean other than pvp, and just fun. Can you really upgrade your gear by multiboxing instances at 80?
Reason I ask this, is that I am currently 5 boxing. Once I hit 80. Can I do any real instance upgrade gear farming? Or should I just 5 box to 80. Join a guild, and take turns getting raid gear. Then just pvp over, and over again in my spare time when I am boxing?
I have read many many posts, some say you need to be overgeared to do level 80 instances, and even then its hard. Then some others say you can't even do them. You can only pvp, and run dailies, and only *some* heroics as in a couple.
So I am just curious before I spend wotlk x5 which is about $150.00. Is it worth it? I don't really pvp much, its alright its just not really my thing.
Another question heh, I run 3x chars on 1 pc. And 2 on my other. I currently use Clickboxer http://www.lavishsoft.com/wiki/index.php/ClickBoxer
Which helps me initiate my macros etc. However when I used to 5 box on my main pc. ISboxer allowed me to hit 1 button . And all my toons assisted super easily without the need of clickboxer or making a WoW macro. However since my chars are spread up on 2 computers ISBoxer will only allow me to do that on one pc.
Is there anyway I can set it up to assist on the other pc also when I hit my keyboard key? I have isboxer already connected to both pc. I launch it from my main, it boots up my wow sessions on my other pc np. Auto follows np. Broadcasts np. Its just the assist function in isboxer I am trying to work out.
Thanks a bunch for your help guys, i really appreciate it. Sorry about the long post.

I'm gearing myself through PVE. It's not that long since I dinged 80 and I have 25 emblems or so until I am done with all conquest gear. Next patch we're gonna be able to get Triumph emblems.. which means even better gear :-)
As for your statement that multiboxers only do *some* heroics, it's simply not true :-) It really depends on what combo you play. But you will easily be able to do to +20 emblems a day if you really wanted to... IF you atleast have a tank and some healing ability.
As for ISboxer, check out Uualas guide.. I'm too lazy to search :-)
Edit: here it is http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=26231

Sorry I forgot to clarify my classes etc. I am only level 60 now, I box 1 pally, 3x shamans, 1 priest. Would I be good on the tanking/healing aspect?
Also what are emblems? How many would I need to get 1 piece of armor? Also what tier is conquest armor? Lol sorry for all the questions, I am learning already. haha
Thanks for the guide, I will study it up.

No worries!
As for tanking you are pretty much set, as long as you have a tank (and you have a Paladin - easy aggro and maintenance), three shamans (very nice dps and useful totems) and a priest, which is a very good healer. You should not worry at all :)
Emblems! Yeah I just took for granted that you knew that, no worries. All you need to know about conquest emblems can be found here (http://www.wowwiki.com/Emblem_of_Conquest). They're basically tokens you loot (for all chars in your party) of each heroic boss you kill in an instance, as you collect more of them you will be able to buy new armor, rings, trinkets and so on.
Being able to multibox your own heroic dungeons, collecting loot and emblems is how you will gear your toons. It's pretty quick :-)

Truthfully, I have always wondered. Is there a actual benefit to multiboxing? I mean other than pvp, and just fun. Can you really upgrade your gear by multiboxing instances at 80? Benefit from multiboxing is that no one ever has to wait for anyone. I never have to wait for a tank, more dps or a healer. I log on, fly to the instance and start farming emblems. No one else has to sit around waiting for me. If I decide grab a drink, hotpockets >.>, or take a bio break, I don't even have to say anything in party chat.
For my third group, I crafted the titansteel/tempered saronite gear for my DK and crafted the frostsavage gear for my healer and boxed H UK the day I dinged 80. I believe everyone in that group has farmed at least 250 emblems of conquest, so it is possible to upgrade your gear by multiboxing instances at 80. For that group I also did most of my leveling in instances since level 70. I went from 70-75 in UK, 75-78 in GD, and 78-80 in HoL. For me, it was running the same instances over and over was easier than doing collection quests and chain quests.
I have read many many posts, some say you need to be overgeared to do level 80 instances, and even then its hard. Then some others say you can't even do them. You can only pvp, and run dailies, and only *some* heroics as in a couple. You're not going to be able to one shot all heroics the day you hit 80. You will be able to pick off a boss here and there. You might not even be able to complete one full heroic. The point is to start farming emblem to get the gear to enable you to complete those heroics. On my first group, for months, I farmed all three bosses in H UK, first boss in H UP, first 2 bosses in H HoL, two bosses in H GD, and once in a while the four bosses in H CoS. At this moment, my go to instances are H GD and H DTK. I like H HoL when I have time, H UK is not worth the time, and H CoS is one that I still rather skip(personal issue of overpulling because I'm still farming the drakes).
So I am just curious before I spend wotlk x5 which is about $150.00. Is it worth it? I don't really pvp much, its alright its just not really my thing. I don't pvp much either. My five shaman have a combined total pvp kill of one. It was from some unlucky alliance working on those Grizzly Hills pvp dailies, I just tab target and lightning bolt anything that's red. It was worth it for me. I don't have to wait for anyone and I can fill up any group with 1-4 characters if needed when I'm running with my guild. Depending on your situation, maybe, maybe not.
Another question heh, I run 3x chars on 1 pc. And 2 on my other. I currently use Clickboxer http://www.lavishsoft.com/wiki/index.php/ClickBoxer

with my shamans i stopped using i was farming up to 35 emblems a day and doing lots of pvp, gearing up does not take long and its fun with a friend, unless your like me alone on a server :(
long as you get your combo correct you can pve and pvp and enjoy both aspects. If your not enjoying multiboxing then i think you need to take a break or maybe its not your thing?
currently im using my new 5x dk, now i doubt i will be doing heroics because i have no healer. so i may have to rotate and switch one dk for my priest for healing or remove a dk and rotate with a random healer from lfg.
who knows, but end of the day your in control of how fun you can make multiboxing.

You can use ISBoxer on multiple PCs and have toons on your second PC assist ones on your main PC. There are posts on this site on how to do it but it might benefit you to visit the Innerspace IRC http://www.lavishsoft.com/chat/isboxer.php Someone there is usually able to point me in the right direction of the posts I struggle to find.
There is also a post about how you can get full T9 in 12 days after 3.3 drops. I would say that is a decent way to upgrade through PvE.

If he is going to use his shaman only for dps wouldnt a Pal, Priest, 3XMage be better (i.e. optimal?)

For certain specific encounters, yes. For the vast majority, no. No other class manages the sheer utility and synergy of shammy groups.

I run same exact set up as you, pally tank, 3 shaman, 1 priest, I own most heroics with no problem. And then the other benefit of having the group already is that only person you can get frustrated at is yourself instead of other players. You set your own schedule, your own heroics, you are not at the mercy of LFG and being stuck LF healer for an hour, hell by the time another group gets together your done with the heroic they where LFG for.
So you tell us if you think its worth to 5 box?
Yes Sam while the 3 mages are great DPS, when you take the shaman out of the equation, you end up with a single healer in the end, no o $hit button I need a big heal from all my guys or I'm dead. Yes you gain Int buff, water/food, water pet if your ice, but you lose totems, heals, heroism and a bunch. Its a give and take regardless of which way you go for your team makeup.

When you 5 box, the group leader doesn't QQ about your gearscore.

As others have said you can do heroics with your 5x team - you just have to start slow (for my group Gundrak secondary entrance boss and eck where the 2 easiest at first) - I think nowadays you could do regular TOC for a while too - or do the last few levels of your level 80s in AV to get honor and get some pvp epics which do help ('cept for the tank; unless your tank is a druid)

What? No. The only heroic I haven't completed as a 5-box team is Oculus, which I know is possible, but I don't feel like screwing around with a whole new macro set for one dungeon that I don't even remotely like {I've done everything up to the last boss}. I still need AN and OK on this team, but I haven't seen them roll around as the H Daily yet. And I suck, there's people who are much better than I am and wipe the floor with everything.,
My husband also multiboxes a 5 man team and we've "duoed" some 10man raids. Lately he's been sucked in to Dragon Age, but we'll probably pick things up again when 3.3 hits.
