Just put together a new I7 computer to play my 5 team and brought over my 2 year old HD from my old computer. It is a good WG 750GB....but it is screaming the whole time I am running around Dal...WG....and battlegrounds. So, I want to shell out some money for a good ~80GB SSD.

So, which ~80GB SSD would you purchase at this time?

Intel 80gb (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150636+1421445225+50001157&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=636&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=)?

If money isn't an issue, get the Intel SLC drive. Barring that, get another SLC drive. Bottom line is if you want data longevity, SLC is the only real choice.

[edit] Kingston is the only manufacturer authorized to sell the Intel controllers in their drives. ;)

I have a 60GB OCZ Vertex, and I'm very happy with it.

Well, I was looking for something under $300.

For this application, the main flaw (they suck at writes) of the cheaper flash-based SSDs isn't really an issue. Except when you install/patch, which will take longer. For running around Dalaran or whatever, you're talking more or less pure reads - which will work fine on the cheaper drives. I'm using an OCZ model I picked up on sale, no complaints here. It is NOT a hard drive replacement - but it makes a great supplement for multiboxing.

If you don't know how to copy & symlink your data folder yet, the instructions should be around here somewhere.

For purely a data folder to run wow from, you don't need that good of an SSD.
If you're putting your operating system on it, you'd want a much better SSD.

If you're going to get a cheap MLC drive, make sure you put your OS/cache/swap files on a normal HDD and just put the WoW and gaming stuff on the SSD.

I am planning for the ssd to just be a gaming drive

32GB RiData MLC. It's cheap and works wonderful for 5-boxing WoW. You don't need to spend a ton of money on an SSD if you're only using it for WoW (I use a normal 7200 drive for everything other than WoW... everything works smooth)
