I am working on a mixed group and have a mid level frost speced mage (Frost Bite and Shatter). I don't think once I have ever landed a Frostbolt on a Frozen target during a pull that the whole group is working on. The frozen effect just disappears immediately with some much inbound attacked / damage. I definitely see the proc, but its gone immediately. In fact it comes and goes faster than my main's UI updates it seems from looking at the proc log.

Is this even worth it? Or am I low level and the effect will become more robust later? If I cannot get that nice spike in damage, I might as well go to a different tree it seems.

Thanks

Shattercombo specs is crap in pve (unless you solo instances or whatever)
I played mage in vanilla and tbc, and raided as frost. and for that i dropped shatter.

For pvp irs projuice

That's bad news, looking for a (non shatter && non blizzard && pve build && replenishment) looks very contorted tree wise.

I suppose it depends on how many mages are on your team, and the size of your team.
If you're running 4x frost mage, at least one will almost constantly benefit from hitting a frozen target.
Even if another mage was the one to apply the freeze.

With a tank, 3x dps and a healer or hybrid, there are at least 3 others hitting the mob, which breaks freeze.
You might land a frost spell on a frozen mob, 1 cast in 20 (just picking a number here), which means the talent is a 5% increase (if 1 in 20 is the correct number).
Blizzard, with a talent point, can freeze and hits the target several times as it is channeled, that might be the most frequently use of the talent.

It was unreliable for rooting things but for the crits it was nice. Granted, that was back before LK and patch 3.0 went live.

I'm currently leveling Mage X 5 and I have to say that it's completely worth it in that case. As previously mentioned, even if the caster doesn't get to use his own frostbite, one of the other mages will!

If you're only running one mage, I would highly suggest still taking shatter, skip frostbite, and just pick up Fingers of Frost later in the tree instead. You'll get a very similar effect without worrying about your other characters breaking the root early. :)
