Dude, where's my mouse?!

Hiya,

Long time listener, first time caller.

I'm treading slowly into the joys of dual-boxing (seriously, 5 toons at once? doesn't your head explode?) and have a question about setting up my multiplexer. (I'm using octopus 'cause I'm cheap, but I did the KeyClone trial and had the same issue.)

I have keys being broadcast to my second client no trouble, but I can't get mouse clicking. I'm somewhat sure I have the mouse pointer broadcasting, because red wow buttons light up on both clients when I mouse over one. (The "Exit Now" button is highlighted simultaniously on both.) I cannot, however, click in one client and enjoy results in both.

Do I even want this? I'm pretty much a mouse clicker when I play. I use my wasd,qe and my 1234, but... well, let's just say that I failed typing in highschool and leave it at that. I would like to be able to click anywhere on my visible action bars and access spells/macros on both clients.

Is this possible or am I really limited to my first action bar for controlling my second toon? Will enabling clicking both clients simultaniously cause more problems than it solves?

No, you do not want to rely on mouseclicks for normal skill activations, IMO. For some things, like possibly click healing with a specialized grid setup, maybe. For ground-targeted AoE, obviously it's the only way to do it. For normal hotbar buttons, it works fine when you have the time to make sure you're clicking in the middle of the button (like hearthing, eating/drinking, etc.) but it sucks ass when things are hectic. I've yet to meet anyone that can reliably click tiny buttons in the heat of a PVP battle or when trying to avoid boss AoE or puddles of fire.

I honestly have no idea how octopus handles the mouse, but I can tell you this even with the tools that handle mouse repeating well you will have issues. I would suggest moving toward keybinds, as that is going to be the most responsive for you.
There is really no typing skill needed when it comes to pressing 1234 a lot :P
I know when I used keyclone a while ago the mouse repeating feature was kind of laggy and gimmicky at best, I'm sure it's come a long way since then. The price is pretty cheap and a 1 time hit so it ends up being well worth it.
HKN can broadcast mouse clicks for you and can be used in tandem with Octopus. HKN is free but you'll spend a bit of time tweaking a script to get it just right.
IS+ISBoxer has one of the coolest features as it actually shows you a mouse cursor on each winow and the response is quite nice. Has an annual fee that is low considering the support provided, but is one of the nicest setups for mouse repeating.
Even with all that ability I still use mouse broadcasting in HKN just to click portals and quest givers most of the time with the occaisional targetable AoE spell click.

Octopus does mouseclick broadcasting very well. It's not instant but it is accurate enough to have satisfied every requirement I've had for the last couple of years. There's no point in putting HKN on there just for that feature. The easiest way to figure out if mouseclick broadcasting is working is to set up MS Paint as the window you're broadcasting to and a big paintbrush. That way, when you click, it'll put a dot on the screen to show you where it clicked. Once you get it working in that, then go back to WoW.

If the Octopus_Guide.pdf doesn't help you figure it out, make sure you have the Server-->Clicks list filled with all your buttons you want broadcasted. if the button isn't in that list, it won't get clicked. ;) If that doesn't help, lemme know and I'll see if I can whip up an example tutorial for ya.

So I figured out (read: stole someone's idea) that you can bind other action bar slots to keys. I'll play around with making that work with my clumsy fingers.

I still see some uses for having clicks passed to the second client, so I think I'll bind button 3 or 4. Maybe I'll figure some way to click-to-use an object to quickly reunite a team that's split up too much.
