View Full Version : Looking for some alpha testers

I'm a private server player and last week i saw a multi-Boxing user for the first time in my wow career, we started talking and he gave me the link to these forums. I checked out the solutions provided and noticed that most of them were halfassed and/or not free.
So i decided to have a go myself. I'm not a hardcore wowplayer and i don't have the time to create all kinds of characters to fully test it. I don't have any experience with other multi-boxing clients so its also hard for me to find areas of improvement.
So last night i patched together a basic multi-boxing tool and I'm looking for some players that are willing to test it. Remember this is a very early alpha stage of the application so there won't be a very fancy interface and it will not work that great either, just the basics.
So now I'm looking for players that want to have a go at it. Preferably players that can be very critical and have experience with other multi-boxing applications.
And for safety reasons i would really warn you not to use this on the official servers, because i can't guarantee that my program doesn't violate TOS or trigger any safety functions.
Of course this will change in a later stage.
I expect to have a working version either tonight or tomorrow night so send me a pm if you are interested.
Note: I know I'm new to these forums and therefor maybe difficult for you to trust me so i would suggest you create a new account on the server you are playing. That way everybody is happy ;)

A suggestion I have is to produce source code. Especially since it's in early alpha stages. Let someone like KeyClone or someone else code-minded here look over it.
May be the only way you'll get test rats. ;)

Haven't decided if i want to opensource this product. But i intend to provide this as a freeware tool.
I understand the trust issues, trust me, if i would have read this post i would probably think the same, for all you know i could have hid trojans / keyloggers etc in it. Maybe i should develop it a bit further and provide screenshots / videos of functionality.
Or i could send the source to a trustworthy and known source so he/she could confirm there's no malicious code in there.
Thanks for your input.
Also feel free to put suggestions in this thread as for functionality you are missing in the other application. To be clear, this application will be focused on WoW and will not work with any other games/software.

I'm confused here. Let me weigh my options:
KeyClone:
o 10$ per PC
o Established, well-known member of the community
o Many users who have used it with 0 security issues
o Able to use it on live servers with 0 EULA issues
o Works with anything, not just WoW
Your program:
o Free (minor upside)
o Complete uknown coder (big downside)
o Only works with WoW (small downside)
o May violate EULA (huge huge huge downside for me)
o Won't open-source to prove validity (huge downside)
I'll pay 10$ in a heartbeat for the upsides that KC gives me. Sorry, bro.
If you're interested in helping the community, why not talk to KC and see if he has any ... I dunno ... modules, or add-ons to KC that he'd like to see happen but doesn't have the time to do himself?
Maybe you could actually improve the already-awesome product instead?

anything that is free and not open is a password thief, trojan or virus in my book.
without accountability it's just too risky

what on earth does it do that may violate TOS?
should it be in these forums, which do not support macro'ing, botting, etc......?
lemme expand a bit... ive worked a bit on MultiBox and now I write Octopus..... API functions like global hooks & SendInput have not caused problems. the key events to background processes goes a bit like AttachThreadInput, PostMessage, then detach. Its as simple as that. I sussed out AHK which does the same thing with SetKeyboardState for modifiers I believe. I bet on Keyclone doing similar, as its the only way. Any more and your on your own.

The only reason that i put that there is because im not sure what the TOS exactly says, better be safe then sorry. Yes i am wrapping the windows using PostMessage and a couple of other api functions.
This is no bot.
As a side note: I was asking for some volunteers, i'm not telling you to use it. Stop advertising other means of multi-boxing in this thread. I'm not making a KeyClone clone.

If it's not a Keyclone clone, then what it is exactly?
Not trying to rain on your parade. If anything, more programs are better than fewer. But you have to admit the sketchiness factor, atm, is pretty high.
What does this bring vs Keyclone, AHK, Octopus, Multibox?
Planned or otherwise? Especially if it remains closed source.

No one is advertising anything. We're just trying to figure out what your program can bring to the table that we can't get yet.
It's kind of like a car website, where you post "Hey, got this brand new awesome car model I'm developing. Can't tell you what engine it uses, can't tell you what it looks like, or if it's safe. In fact, it's highly probable it's NOT safe because I have no idea what highway safety is. I'd like you to contact me about driving in this car except I can't reveal anything about the insides of it to you."
EDIT: Not to mention that there's a small chance that when you get in the car, your wallet is stolen by the car's seat. :P
Uhh, sorry, not getting in that car.

Well not to rain on a parade but was Keyclone always a widely known reputable program? Did it not need some amount of trust and testing to be forged into what it is now?
I believe that most if not all the best things in life are free (excluding s.t.d's and things of that nature).
Note: Linux is free, is it stealing your passwords?

That is the point I am trying to make, is Keyclones source open? Just because you have a situation like:
Soure:Open Price:Free
&
Source:Closed Price:Free
Doesn't instantly make it a virus or a logger. I do agree it sounds fishy but that is a risk for whoever to take.
But remember even if:
Source:Closed Price:Not Free
Exists doesn't mean it isn't a virus or a keylogger either. His statement begged the question so I asked.

Yes, as a blanket statement it is not objective. However, I think you needed to add a "until proven otherwise" clause to the end of the sentence.

I am sure KeyClone built up a reputation on these forums and earned the trust of most of the people that read these forums. If the OP wants alpha testers they can build up their reputation on here as well or in some other community.
Currently it seems like a fishing for suckers scam.

keyclone's source is not open and it costs money... thereby motivating Solid ICE (me) to insure its quality (welcome to capitalism). it is also coming from a company that has been incorporated since 1998.
on top of that, you have regular access to the developer... fast, responsive customer support, and has been proven in-game (initially shadowbane in apr 2006).
if there were any problems, they would become instantly obvious in these forums. all major problems are dealt with asap.
and the last time i checked... viruses, trojans and keyloggers are closed source, have no customer support, come from unknown authors, and are free.
i tend to be extremely cautious of such binaries
This guy sounds nothing like a coder announcing a new project, he does sound exactly like a kid that's binded a trojan or keylogger and hoping to get a few new wow accounts. Most of the regular posters know better but I'm pretty sure this guy has already gotten messages from those less savvy.
This thread really should be deleted.

I appreciate your willingness to write an application that could potentially help out fellow dual-boxers, and what you are seeing is many members very suspicious and they've clearly stated the reasons.
We are a very tight knit community and when Keyclone first entered the scene with his application he was also red flagged and dealt with the questions and proved himself hand over hand that he was legit (now we love him :).)
We are not trying to be mean at all, we would like more information on the subject and would suggest screenshots with what your functionality consists of - and why it would be better than what currently exists.
Futhermore, dual-boxing is already a gray area and I do not promote private servers at all on these forums.
