Alright all you duel boxers out there, I need some info.

I do not know what combo I want to make. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Mage/Priest

Mage/Mage (easiest control wise)

Lock(already level 70)/Priest

I really want to make Lock/Priest but I don't really understand how two different classes will work on one computer.

If I make a Priest to play with my lock that is a lvl 70 what would be the best way to get the priest up to level 70? Do I two box a priest and another class? Do I two box the priest with my lock helping by running through instances. Do I just level the priest alone. Which way will be fastest?

For all of you using one computer, and have two different classes How do you perform actions in the game (casts and such)

Do you use AHK where pressing 2 presses 2 in the other window? or

Do you have have separate buttons on the keyboard for each class?

Other then alt tabbing and changing windows is there another way to perform the actions?

How do you duel boxers level characters 1-70? Do you start both at 1 and group quest/grind to 70? (won't quests run out fast?) Do you use a higher level healer character to pull a lower level along out of party?

Any comments will be a big help. Thanks in advance

If you have 1 level 70 and thats it - then your options are pretty much level up or have a character leveled up for you.

Your 70 alt can heal but can't damage or it will leech XP.

The best way is to level two all the way to 70 dual boxing them together. That is what I did with the Zins, leveled all 5 to 60 at the same time.

Failing that, you can quest most of the way to 60 within about 5 - 6 days /played if you know the quest order and are already familiar with that factions leveling up. There are a few guides out there - I like Joana's guide the most - I have a copy of it and it is pretty solid. Not geared towards boxing but will certainly get you leveled quickly. It is mostly quest based.

Mage/Mage will be the easiest to control. You would just be duplicating functions plus controlling movement and individual things that would need to be triggered (ice block, etc). Adding a second class makes things much harder - two sets of spells - less overlap, etc. Mage priest is not as solid as you might think if the priest is holy. 1 holy priest can tend to 3 or 4 characters at once, especially with aoe healing - and holy priest dps is fairly weak.

A single lock and a single holy priest is not likely to be a good combination, in my opinion. If you want to know how to control it - take a look at several of the many FAQs here on how to dual box. There are several ways you can go, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. I cannot give you the 2 sentence version and convey the depth of exactly how you can control them both because it is much more complicated than that.

Sorry to kind of hijack the thread, but how would you rate mage/mage as a whole? I'm thinking about doing this for 2x the aoe so that I can down the mobs 2x as faster, but I'm still not sure if that would be better than just going mage/healer (shaman or priest) and having it heal while the mage aoes.

Well if you are aoeing - keep two things in mind.

1) You get half the exp (not quite, there are bonuses for grouping).
2) Nobody is healing :)

1 mage cannot aoe down really any elite and mages are squishy :)

alright two more questions, when you have two characters and are duel boxing and doing gathering quests how do you loot on the non main?

Xzin if you had to duel box something that you would play for PVP in the end what two classes would you choose?

On two machines? You use the other mouse or synergy to move over.

On one? You click twice. There may be some way to duplicate the mouse though.

If I were to play 2 classes for PvP? 2 locks or 2 mages. Probably 2 locks because they can pseudo heal.

Just a tip here:
If you want to dualbox 2 different classes, make sure that those 2 (for lvling if nothing else) got the same "sort of" attacks. For example a Warlock can be quite effective with a Shadow Priest by simply adding a [nochanneling] option to your mind flay / drain life macros - then just hit the button when spell ends on 1 char. Or any combination of mage, druid, shaman, and destro warlock where you'd have both chars casting spells at a speed of around 3 secs.

Oh and my favorite thing about channelled spells is that it'll turn your char for you, so that you can let go of your mouse and instead use your right hand to control the other char.
Couple of G15s and you could 4-box with a full set of macros for each char (1 on keyboard, the other on G-keys).

I echo the advice about "similar" spells, hence the mage/lock combo I am doing. Channeling breaks follow tho.
