The new Mac Minis are quite a bit beefier than they used to be. Would they be a good investment for dual-boxing? I'd also need to put up a few hundred more for dual monitors.
I do have a thrown-together setup as it is. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done. A macbook air coupled with a Dell from a few years ago. Nothing strong by any means.

Anyway, do y'all think it's worth putting a grand into this setup? Or can you recommend another that would be more efficient? Thanks.

I thought about doing this a while back when they first upgraded the GPU's on the Mini's.

I have run WoW on a Macbook Air with an SSD drive, so by comparison, it should be fairly close as the Air has a slower processor but faster drive. I can run Dalaran in max res on the Air's display at 1280x800 with decent performance (20-25 FPS). In the regular zones, I can hit 100 FPS.

I think that as long as you are OK with running lower resolutions, the performance will be satisfactory if not good.

Just don't expect to run 1920x1200 with decent framerates in Dalaran.

I've been 5-boxing with a 24" iMac (main machine) and 4 of the march/09 mac Minis (the first model with the GeForce 9400M graphics) since they came out. The Minis work really well for slave boxes, I use them on 19" 1280/1024 monitors with most of the settings down low and they get ~30fps most of the time. I use a wireless keyboard, 5 receivers, and synergy to allow easy mousing around the various machines. There's also a trackball on a KVM for the slave boxes but I rarely use it.

You could get something cheaper if you BYO windows box, but mac minis hold some resale value (and of course can boot windows if you wanted to multibox a win-only game).
