Just starting duel boxing hae 4 accounts thinking about leveling 4 shamans. Just wondering if they if shamans are the best as far as pvp goes for a set of 4 at this time and if they will still pvp well after the next expansion is released. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I couldn't find an answer :)

Quad shamans with someone else on the healer are amongst the top for 5v5 Arena.
Just about any composition works for battlegrounds, but shammies are relatively strong there too.
Four shammies and a prot paladin is probably the easiest combination to do heroics with.
Again shammies are strong in PvE too.
They wear mail armor and equip shields.
They can heal and ressurrect and self rez.
They have a multitude of totem buffs.
They have amazing burst.
Lots of nice toys...
Earthbind to snare/root.
Windshock off of the GCD for extra spell interrupts.
Fire Nova to stun.
Fire Elementals for AoE (not in arena).
Lightning Shield vs cleave/aoe.
Thunderstorm as a pushback or push over the cliff.
Instant ghost wolf.
Grounding vs casters.
Staggered Tremor totems vs the Fear Bomb.
Etc.
They're not the only team with success, but they're up there.

If you are going Alliance then your options are a little limited :)

They're leet except for the fact that elemental shaman are the squishiest class/spec in the game. It takes 900-1000 resil and 22-23k hp to not explode instantly against most other stuff.
However the burst and guaranteed crit ability, and all the toys, are what make them viable. If you do battlegrounds, wintergrasp, and world pvp, remember that you're just like a turret. Find a good place to fire from and you will put out insane amounts of damage.

i think shammies are the best to start with, unless ur willing to try a odd group and get lucky lol, 5 palies worked out of nowhere...
maybe 5 rouges might work, but u can never go wrong with the shammies

How long does it take to grind that much 0.o

Shammies have the best synergy together because you can use almost every totem if you wanted to. Not to mention people other than warriors with that spinny-whirly-thing-of-death can't get near you with staggered thunderstorm. Five groundings = dead casters before they can even damage you. And, like others have said, you can self rez and rez others. ...and I might be a little biased here, but troll females are teh sexy :)

I started with 5x Shaman's.
But moved one shaman off of that team (into my mixed group).
And added a Prot Pally to this team.
Prot Pally + Shaman is a very easy to play and powerful group for PvE instances, heroics, dailies and quests. For arena, I'd recommend dropping the Pally and having a dedicated healer (played by someone else) while you control the shammies. For BG's, 5x Shaman would be the strongest, and 4x works well too.
Back in the Burning Crusade era, I geared a solo shammy in full BG gear. Playing 12-14 hours a day, this was three weeks of play time. With the ability to arena 10 losing games a week (don't even need to enter the arena), gear should come faster then that. But it gives an idea of the timeframe to gear them up.
I'm having the most fun with 5x Balance druids. You could PvE (heroics) with this team, by respecing (or dual-spec) one to Feral for tanking and one to Resto for healing. The Moo's have a lot of heroic video's in the movie section.
They're going to be very fun in battlegrounds once I've finished leveling them. Stealth via cat form, massive aoe power with Starfall, Hurricane and Force of Nature, Typhoon on round robin to keep melee away, Cyclone and Root as CC's, not to mention each can heal, rez and battle rez. They put out respectable dps, but definately lack the burst to excel in arena.
Dailies and quests will be a blast with these as they have strong sustained dps, strong aoe, decent heals and instant cast epic flight form.
I've tried 5x Hunters and 5x Disc Priests. Both teams worked, but neither were as fun as the Shammies or the Druids.
I've created 5x Warlocks (on the Horde; everything else I have is alliance), for something different, and think this team will be a lot of fun. I've named them after some of the worst diseases or biological agents out there, which I feel is a good theme for affliction warlocks. Ebola, Malaria, Cholera, Anthrax and Diphtheria; unfotunately had to use an ascii "a" for each of them.
