View Full Version : Is it ok to use keyboard macros to generate additional keypresses?

For example, I have "3" for Arcane Shot and "4" for Aimed Shot. I setup a keyboard (Logitech) macro to generate a "3" and a "4" when i press a key so I can spam it to cast arcane shot or aimed shot everytime the cooldown is up. Similiar functionality to the old /castrandom and avoid the need for /click macro.

Is this legal?? I am afraid of getting banned if this is against the TOC..

They nerfed /castrandom because its behavior wasn't intended. I'm not sure Blizzard would take kindly to you duplicating it with a keyboard macro.

I try and stick with the 1 key = 1 action "rule", where you can think of actions as spells you place on the action bar or macros you can make in game and place on an action bar.

If you can't make a macro in game to do what you want, you shouldn't use something out of game to do what you want.

Why not just make the click and not worry about it. Using external programs to reimplement actions that Blizzard has expressly removed is rarely if ever a smart move. For all we know, your idea of "generate a 3 and 4" is "press a macro that has an automated delay or lock of X seconds or using an 'if/then' script to send 3 every 6 seconds and 4 every 10 seconds, giving priority to 4 if both are available..." while ours is "facerolling 3 and 4".

Well, it is a grey area.

You can click 4 and 5 at once on the keyboard.
And get two abilities at once, with at most one firing while the other is on cooldown.

You could also create a macro on a single keybind.

#show Aimed Shot
/castsequence Aimed Shot,
/castsequence ,Arcane Shot

If they're both off of cooldown, then the first one casts and the second cannot.
If only one is on cooldown, the other will fire off.
And its one key pressed for both spells.

However, pressing one macro which always does what is preconfigured.
Or spamming two keys at once, can be done within the warcraft client.
If your logitech software always gave the output of 4 and 5, when you press G1...
That is effectively the same thing.

However, you are getting two (simultaneous) keystrokes for one key press.
Which could be construed as against the EULA/ToS.

I'd instead go with a wow macro, such as the click castsequence.
Or at least both spells within one macro, on a single keybind.
There's no ambiguity there, so your account is not potentially at risk.

I try not to use the /click plus /castsequence macros as my keyboard spamming speed is not constant. Also thinking of setting up a melee team and using keyboard macro is a way to combine "Interact with Target" spam with /cast macros. Guess I have to hit both keys manually then? :(

Spamming interact with target will cause your alts to run around like retarded geese.

As for "use click"... you could make a click macro:

/click spell1
/click spell2

Or you can use your Logitech keyboard to press 3 and 4 and keybind Spell1 to 3 and spell2 to 4...

Or you can use an x-keys pro to keycap 2 keys into one and do the same thing...

Or you can tape a penny on your 3 and 4 key to do the same thing.

As long as there is no automation you should be fine.
