I tried MB'ing Warhammer Online over the last month or two.

Never got high level as I got too frustrated with the mechanics of the game as it relates to MB'ing.

For those of you considering it, let me give you my take:

The game lags like crazy. What this means is that things take far longer to do than in WoW. For example, the lag from moving your main to having the alts move is around 1-2 seconds. Part of this lag is from the autofollow distance "setting" - I'd say it is roughly twice as large as the autofollow distance in WoW.

The macro capabilities are limited at best. This means no "Interact with Target" and no casting macros. So every spell you cast has to be tied to a hotkey on your cast bars. Honestly, this in and of itself is not such a terrible thing. However, when you combine it with the fact that you cannot specify a target associated with a /cast command, and with the lag in the game, you press the /assist macro key a few times (to make sure that it registers and your team has the correct target) then you hit another key (a few times) to cast your spell.

I dealt with these limitations and tried to keep plugging along, as I thought the game in general was kind of neat. But the real killer for me was the "physics" of the game. My team kept getting stuck on rocks and hills that WoW would just let your team run right over. This meant that I had to really focus on making a correct "path" with the leader around obstacles. And since the lag was so terrible, navigating things like a circular staircase was impossible.

It was really this last issue that made me give up and cancel my accounts. Which is too bad really as I had a good time with the other aspects of the game.

Yah, the game really was poorly designed at release. There were some cool innovations such as public questing, but overall the game sucked. Your review should be taken into consideration by anyone and everyone thinking about boxing that game.

Thanks for this, Ive had it in the back of my mind that Id like to box War if I ever had spare time on my hands. I liked the game when solo playing but got sucked back into wow after the initial buzz wore off. I had visions of solo'ing public quests and taking pvp objectives solo. Shame they cant get their act together and iron out the problems.

So, if anyone wants a large challenge, Warhammer is for them.
Or alternatively, if you want to appreciate the boxing environment more within Warcraft, try out Warhammer.

Thanks for the boxing review.

I two boxed WAR for a few weeks. A healer and melee is good. but more than two would be hard. I was really let down by WAR! I played DAoC for 3 tears ( 4 boxed it most the time ) I had high hopes for WAR. DAoCs PvP was the most fun i have ever had in PvP with any game. It just was hard to find fights at times, but the castle sieges were a blast! So i had hoped that WAR, being made by the same company, would be even more fun..no luck 8(

I started 3 boxing and now 5 box war and wouldn't even consider another game. Its all about setup. You have to tinker with things. 5 Engineers are a blast and the 1 RP 4 BW setup is awesome for farming. I used to 5 box lotro but found grinding extremely boring.
