View Full Version : system seems slow

I built a computer a while back and it never really seemed as fast as it should be. It hangs when i go between wow and IE. It takes around a minute to boot up or shut down. On my old system when i lauched wow from keyclone they would load so fast it would hang the system a little bit. On this system it takes 25-35 secs for keyclone to launch 5 copies.

Another odd thing is i play with 4 windows in the back ground, one in each corner and my main up front. when i mouse over the top left one my mouse bugs out and becomes glichy but any of the other windows the moust acts fine.

Really im just looking for any sort of info or maybe hardware conflicts. Just seems it should be much faster then it is.

When wow is playing it all runs really smooth. No slowing in dal or any of that. On my g15 it says im usally around 12-15% cpu usage and 80-90% ram usage. Talked with another mb and was told to change my affinitymask in wtf and that dropped ram usage to 50%ish and seems to run a little smoother.

I only play wow on this comp and really never goto any site but this one and thotbot so i dont think i have a virus.

This is a list of whats in it. please if any one wants to trouble shoot it tell me what test to run and i do them. Thanks for your time.

I have all the latest drivers i believe and have no question marks in my device drivers.

thanks for any input.

Loading slowly points to HD transfers and such. You might try symlinking. Were these the same HD as old system?

Which Vista is that? 64bit I hope.

edit: I treated the problem backwards.

For general startup/shutdown laziness, I would look at hardware installation (drivers) and software installation (the Registry)

6gb RAM / 4 clients caught my eye.

Even though the G15 isn't reporting 100% RAM utilization, I'd look for memory hard faults (a sign that Vista is using the pagefile) thus putting more stress on your HD.

Also, overclocking is your friend.

What should i look for in registry?

How would i see memory hard faults? As far as OC i figured the system would be good enough that i shouldnt need it. Is thier a easy idiots guide to OC? I did it in my old system but it was in the bios and was to easy.

So not sure if this is what your talking about but found hard faults in windows reliability and perfromance center thing. With this site open and a 1 instance of wow it says im getting 2 hard faults per minute in wow and 1 for IE.
