I am trying to figure out how to TOC :/ The jousting post is excellent but the trouble I have is that I get zonked for half of my life as soon as I get aggro on all 3 guys. I switch horses between waves 2 and 3 and the champions always de-horse early on. How can I get aggro and not get owned? I have my shields (key 4) up but still get nailed.

why do u want to keep aggro while jousting? the horses have an equal amount of hp.
I don't attempt to grab aggro, i select one, press my assist key and keep hitting key 4, 1 and 2.
Next target , same treatment.

I don’t wait for the 3-champs to come to me…Like other posters have said, I too position my toons at the wooden door; once the 3-knuckle heads are down I run to meet the champs. I back halfway to my other toons just into their ranged attack range….then promptly head to grab a new pony. After the initial beating they give my main target the damage seems to get dispersed between my other toons since they get agro by ranged attack while I grab a new one on my main.

Hope that helps a bit.

I am dragging the bag guys around and in front of my slaves. If I don't have aggro they chew up my slaves. If I switch to a slave to get him a new horse the IS Boxer/Jamba follow strobe comes on and everyone follows the active toon.

I never move my alts and typically never lose anyone on heroic mode, If you stand in front with your main he will get initial agro from the champs, he will keep it until he needs to change mounts (usually when the first guy is at about 30% health or so)

Ok, i'll try some of this stuff and see if I can improve a bit. Thanks.

why are you dragging them around? Turn off strobe follow. Stack them together. Mash 1 , 2 , 4.

I set my characters to all follow someone else, ie, char 1 follows char 2 who follows char 3 and so on. I wrote a macro that clicks PetActionButton1 and 2 (or is charge 3? regardless, the melee attack and the charge) and sets follow, so I just hit that macro and 4, and everyone follows and keeps shields up. Its not fool proof, but everyone generally keeps enough distance to charge, and if they don't charge they still swing. Just run back and forth over your target, generally a few seconds before turning around, and they should go down.

Well, I just discovered that my first attempt was on heroic :/ I'm gonna try on normal again. I am just trying to get the encounter down so I can farm some gear for my Team 2 tank.

Those lances are sweet and all but how do i requip my weapons with spell power and def on them? lol

Ok, I cleared the instance on normal. I'm gonna farm it a few times to get the hang of it. My question about swapping my weapon back still stands. Typing /equip Titansteel guardian real fast was a sorry way to do it.

P.S. I use Fur's dual spec macro. I guess I could bind a modified version for each toon to just switch gear :/

Thanks Fur! I was typing as you were, apparently!

Get a mod called JOUST DO IT.

Seriously. Best.mod.ever.

Outfitter does this as well. For those who already use it, this is a not so well publicized feature of the newer release.

Of course if this is all you want and already use the in-game equipment manager this is a great mod. I will have to give it a try.

Why do you need to reequip them fast? After the jousting phase after you dismount all champions you have time to dismount and reequip before you have to fight the 3. Is there a reason to have to reequip them during the jousting phase?

I just dragged my weapons to an unused key. 1 for the lances and 1 for my actual weapons.

It is all about convenience. Works great for the dailies as well. I can not speak for everyone else but we manage so much that any little bit I can automate that makes sense I do.

Set up two /click macros. First one is /assist with vehicle buttons 1/2, and the second that hits 4 (shield). The exact macros are in a thread around here somewhere, if you search. I'd post them but the server's down so I can't login.

I start in the middle, right next to where the champions stop but with enough room to throw before they're in melee range. Reasons I prefer the middle are; 1 - they don't have room to charge when you pull them; 2 - you have more time to trample after you've dismounted one.

It's really as simple spamming those two macros and hitting /follow or manually turning occasionally to face your characters in the right direction. The trick to it is to have a decent unitframes set up so you can clearly see your party pet health bars. When one of your horses gets to 50%, run it across to a fresh horse, switch and run back. The horses respawn, so it's better to switch early than leave it too long and risk losing a character.

Occasionally they will get one too many charges off when your shield hasn't refreshed quickly enough, but if you refresh mounts properly it's really not a difficult fight. If you're dying that quickly my guess would be that you haven't set up macros and you're trying to manually manage DPSing+Shielding, which is leading to you neglecting to refresh your shield every time it's up. If you take a couple of charges without 3 shields up, it will hurt.

*edit

I have 3 large LCD's and a pretty high-end PC that hot-switches clients to my main monitor very quickly, so switching to get a new horse is simpler for me. If you have trouble with lag while client switching, or tabbing, then the fight could be a bit more painful.

/equip argent lance

then after you win in my case

/equip titansteel guardian (this takes care of 3 out of 5 toons. Restro guy I open up his bags and right click his weapon. Tank I just do it naturally b/c it is my main.)

This is way way way off topic but I often sit around a type out commands to my other toons. Especially during dailies. A quick type of /use flesh giant spine or other one time things. Heck up until a couple weeks ago I was still doing manual "/cast magma totem" in certain situations.

Back on topic. I wish there was a achievement to defeat the first boss with lances equiped. I have done it with only the tank having a proper weapon. I think once in regular I was able to do this. I kept thinking man my healing/damage sucks. Only until I had finished did i notice my toons were not properly equiped.

One of the things that I keep having to work around is the ISBoxer/Jamba Strobing thing. I love the strobing, in most cases. Currently, you can't temporarily disable it in game. Sure you can toggle it off but when you switch screens it toggles it back on. It's pretty annoying. I park my guys by the big door so I wind up with aggro pretty soon after they de-horse and I don't have time to manually switch. That and it's one less headache. Joust Do It! worked great, thanks again.

I'm pretty sure jamba strobing only turns on when you switch characters if you have the option checked to do so.

Coltimar
10-27-2009, 03:33 PM
Yeah, I know. But what I didn't realize until now is that you can still use the toggle for it if you don't turn the auto switch on! I asked about this in IRC one time but I obviously did a poor job of asking my question.

Ok, I cleared the instance on normal. I'm gonna farm it a few times to get the hang of it.gratz Coltimar - I can't clear it yet on normal - and I think my gear seems a bit better ... not sure what i'm doing wrong. My tank is 37.5k priest buffed and the priest is at 2000sp, and mages do about 2k, but the black knight kicks my butt ... what's your dps at and what was your strategy?

Coltimar
10-27-2009, 04:08 PM
My dps ranges from 1700-1900. I mainly borrowed strats from here. Which part are you having trouble with? I still struggle with The Black Knight a bit.

@gitcho

(sorry just read that you are on mages, having the mail/shield for my dps really helps)

I was having the same issues, but I think I have it down now. I set my guys up against the instance portal. I then pull with my tank to get in range of the dps. DPS him down (grabbing the add as it comes).

Second phase, I pop consecration as soon as he starts to summon and then I drop 3 fire elementals. I target and kill each summoned ghoul then switch to him. It take a little longer, but this works pretty well for me now.

Third phase, I hit my follow key and have them all follow in on me, pop heroism, and spam CoH and PoH and he goes down like cake.

Hope that helps...

best i have been able to do is get the BK to 3rd phase ... don't have shamans, so I can't use elementals or heroism - can't seem to out-heal the damage - maybe i'm not doing a good enough job at picking up all the adds ... how much team damage is there in the 2nd phase if the tank has all the adds?

Coltimar

So you are Pally, Priest + 3 Mages? Are your mages frost?

gitcho
10-27-2009, 06:30 PM
yes ... but I switched from frost to arcane for a bit better dps ... if this fight is significantly easier with frost, i'm down for a try ...

I agree it's nice to have for convenience as I do the same. I have a key that will equip their lances or their normal weapons. It just sounded to me like it was out of urgency or necessity like something was happening immediately after. I probably just misread into it. LoL

I don't think the adds have an agro table. They seem to randomly switch off my druid and go after shamans.

For this particular fight, with mages, I think fire might actually be a better option that frost or arcane. The idea being to bust out all your AoE's until the mob's are low, and then start cycling BlastWave's to get them away from your group. The adds dont really do much damage, and the explosion doesn't do a lot by itself. It's when you get 4-5 of them all blowing up in your face that you start feeling it.

I use a similar tactic with shamans. I burst the DK down (drop GroundingTotems away from the group, so they pull his DnD away). When he dies, they all start casting explode. Hit TS one one of the shamans to knock them all away, and they explode safely away from the group. You can avoid nearly all of his AoE damage in P2 as long as you can burst him before he DnD's through 4 grounding totems. As mage, you might not have this option.. but flamestrike and arcane explosion/holy nova spam with a few well timed BlastWaves when you see a couple of them casting explode could work. Glyphed HolyNova or CoH can pump out more than enough HPS to outheal one or two explodes and the DnD, as long as you don't get hit by too many at once.

A lot of this fight is gear, too. If your DPS doesn't have the HP to soak up a couple of explosions plus an aoe or two in P3, it's a hard fight to heal.

For phase two and three, I have a macro I switch in for my priest. It goes along the lines of

/castsequence [target=focus] Abolish Disease, Penance, Prayer of Healing, Prayer of Healing, Preayer of Healing

and I just spam that through phase 2 and 3. Tends to keep everyone alive most of the time. Once phase 2 gets going, I use Holy Wrath on my pally to grab aggro on most of the ghouls, and pop Divine Protection to reduce incoming damage. I just ignore the ghouls at this point, burn down the boss. Move anyone out of the snare as necesary. Once he gets low, 25k-ish, I set everyone to follow and make a mad dash to get everyone out of the ghoul cloud before they explode. Assuming everyone survived and the priest still has a bit of mana, at that point its just a matter of burning him down before he kills everyone with his cheap AOE death crap.

Just a warning about the ghouls, if you dont do the knockback before they start huddling (right before explosion) you cant knock them back. Really frustrating for two ghouls to wipe your whole dps team out after BK p2 is dead. I tend to ignore boss and beat them down as he always seems lay down Death and Decay right before he dies so my shaman are unable to strafe away in time to live.

Furs,
do you have a mod that lets you add your macro's to the mounted knight menu? the menu has 1-4 now and spots for 2 more 5 and 6 but you cant add maro's to them now.

I dont use mods. but will have to for this fight it looks like.

I wish they would give option to skip the jousting if you have done it before.

Hate this event cant even do it in regular, if I stuck to it I am sure I could do it and get it down, but I hate anything vehicle based.
