according mmo-champion,
"...We already knew that 3.3 will let us join cross-server random group for dungeons, but apparently Blizzard is working on a functionality to add the feature to raids! Nothing is official for the moment, it might only be here for testing purposes"

yes, nothing official , but it will be really good for boxing some raids together :D

Can you image the poor slobs that selects 'tank'/healer for onyxia and ends up in a twenty 5man raid with four 5box shaman groups?

Well i guess they get that hour long debuff or whatever it is.

this has alot of potential for the majority of raids to be fail groups. having a wasted id for a 5-man because the make-up and/or players suck and you cant finish the run is one thing (which rarely happens), but a wasted raid id is no good. even if they decide to come out with this, i highly doubt ill use it. of course, thats based on the "random grouping", and not selecting players yourself.

Raids are basically in two categories.

Challenging/Progression, or Farm/Puggable.

Of course you get people who want you to link your achievement, so they know its on Farm status for you, so you can pull them through content which is challenging for them.

Still, I only see this as useful for badge farming the easy content.
And even then, you'll likely not be able to see achievements or gear of toons, prior to them being in your raid.
At which point, you have the same ID, at least if a boss gets downed.

Did you guys just completely skim over this? I think this would be loads of fun.
