View Full Version : [WoW] Comp died... sad face for me

Well i was away for a few days and arriving home was informed that my comp is non-functional now. I messed a bit around trouble-shooting but no dice.
In the end a comp upgrade was in my future anyway and all of that is not really the substance of the post... just back story. I was a noob and my HD was not backed up properly. So now i am needing to start from scratch setting up and reinstalling wow, downloading addons and all this jazz. I do have a file on my laptop that has most of my old macros in it.
So my questions to the community are about setting up my followers assisting my main and action bars (and i think they relate).
I had been using Macaroon as my action bar addon and was using the Leaderless/Targetless Focus based Hydra written up in the thread by Zanthor and enjoyed it. As i understand it Macaroon is not going to be maintained anymore and so using a different bar mod seemed to be in my future anyway.
Anyone have any experience they would like to share about using Bartender or any alternative they would recommend besides Bartender? Anyone had any luck getting the assist style team function Zanthor presented with Bartender? I believe it was not possible before.
I think i can get the same basic functionality with a combo of Jamba (Jamba was essential before as well) and the /click command. Only thing about this is that every attack i want to have would need to be macro'ed with the /click command in it (where there is another macro that has the target info in it). I loved Macaroon for the ability to have basically limitless macros, and with Macaroon gone and Bartender not providing this it seems that a macro for every attack spell would eat up my macros very fast.
I have looked into Bindpad for the extra macro opportunities that this addon gives.
Anyone have any experience with ActionBarTargeting as an addon to solve this problem? As i understand it ActionBarTargeting will still need the many macros that my bartender option (assuming that bartender still can't use the targeting information into the bar itself like macaroon could) needs but ActionBarTargeting would free up my "focus" for other stuff.
Anyway now that i am setting up again i wanted to hear what other peoples preferences, perspectives and experience has been to help me make my own decisions.
Thanks

Not really sure on those addons, sorry.
I'd lean towards as few addons as possible.
Granted, some will provide functionality which you deem necessary or at least highly desired.
If you can work it, using the default bars, more power to you.
A bars addon breaking is about the most damaging thing to a given team.
Using the default is the only real defense against this.
I'm not sure how many of your macro's were Macaroon macro's and how many were WoW macro's.
Any of the wow macro's should be stored server side, which means they'll be there intact for you.

As two additional bits anyone want to give a shout out...
with their experience setting up Innerspace for a single comp running multiple accounts? I am thinking of using IS as in pvp the PiP of Keyclone is useable and WAY better than nothing but it does leave me standing aimless getting nuked far more than i would like. I tried setting IS up before when the ISBoxer was just out and i didn't get all the way through it before just sticking with Keyclone.
with where i go to see about setting up my directory of wow folders where some of the folders (like data and cache) are linked to the main folder so that when an update happens the follower directories all just use the main directory folders they are linked to. I had my directory set up like this before but can't remember how i did it. I believe that it also improves performance.
Thanks

I recently switched from Keyclone to Inner Space.
Basically run the wizard, don't make any changes, but click everything and try to see what each thing does.
From their page (wiki I believe), there are four youtube video's which while fast show a lot too.
Also Zanthor has an excellent "From Zero to Hero" thread.
The wizard automates almost everything in that thread, but the thread still explains how things work.
The biggest differences between the two, as far as playing goes.
IS uses automatic FTL, so you just drag spells from the spellbook onto the default action bar.
Heals can be done with a simple macro like: /cast [help] Heal; [help, target=targettarget] Heal.
With Keyclone, keys are always broadcast, with an option for a mouse broadcast on a hotkey.
You can whitelist (only broadcast these keys) or blacklist (never broadcast these keys).
With InnerSpace, broadcast is referred to as repeating.
By default the wizard allows for mouse + keyboard repeating on a hotkey.
I like to copy the Keymap, and then modify it, so you have one for keyboard repeating and a different for mouse.
If you turn keyboard repeater on, IS functions just like Keyclone.
Mouse repeating is useful to click something, for example everyone clicks a hotkey or on a pumpkin.
Or does a ground target spell, like Hurricane or Treants or Blizzard etc.
InnerSpace has Keymaps, which are specific things broadcast to chosen clients, even if keyboard repeater is off.
So you can make a Keymap, which is triggered by pressing Up Arrow, the target is "all other windows, without current", and sends the key combination Up Arrow.
Check the box for if the key is held down.
Now, even though keyboard repeating is off, the Up Arrow will broadcast.
We have set it to broadcast to every window except the one in which the key is pressed from.
So on any client, the arrow keys can control the others, without moving that client.
Other Keymaps can do the same.
If you have an AoE ability on Shift A, for example Pally - Consecrate, Priest - Holy Nova, Druid - Starfall etc...
Make a keymap triggered by Shift A, which sends Shift A to every window including the main one.
You can get very creative with keymaps.
For example, by default we have a keymap to turn keyboard/mouse repeating on.
We have another keymap to turn most other keymaps on and off.
A druid can go with three Keymaps.
#1 is triggered by pressing 1, and sends the key combination of 1, to that client only.
#2 is triggered by pressing 1, and sends the key combination of 2, to that client only.
The third keymap has two steps, the first enables keymap 1 and disables keymap 2. The second step does the reverse.
So if you were to put an Insect Swarm, Moonfire, Wrath sequence on key 1 and a Insect Swarm, Moonfire, Starfire sequence on 2, then spamming the 1 key will click either the first or the second macro, even though we are only ever spamming the one key.
Every time you get an Eclipse proc on your druid, just click the Switch Keymap hotkey.
If you have multiple druids and an addon which will let you know which one has triggered Eclipse, you could have Keymaps 1 and 2 on each druid (each referring to that druid only), with a toggle two-step keymap for each druid, each on its own key... and manage Eclipse procs easily.
If you have an addon like Vuhdo, you can display every toon in your party or raid in alphabetical order.
With "mouse repeater regions", which is just like full mouse repeating on, except it is only enabled within the small region and you can pick where the clicks are broadcast....
You can configure the addon so a Right Click is Renew, an Alt + Right Click is Penance, a Ctrl + Right Click is Flash Heal and a Shift + Right Click is Pain Suppression.
Then even though you're on the Paladin tank (or any other toon for that matter), you can have the priest heal as you choose, with a quick mouse movement and a click.
With say four shaman's, you can have the click go to every client, and heal BG's very efficiently.
For PvP with IS, I'd disable automatic follow, and go with a hotkey.
I'd also have a hotkey (two steps) for Jamba Strobe. Step 1 = on; Step 2 = off.
Definitely use the automatic FTL.
If you have a G15 or G11 keyboard, go into the Profiler software, and remove every macro.
Disable Toggle and Press While Held options, basically you want a totally clean interface with nothing.
Then (Control + Shift + Escape), to end-process.
This gets InnerSpace a no profile and not loaded G15/G11 interface.
You can then bind (hotkey to activate keymaps) the G-keys.
You can even bind to M1, M2, M3 or MR keys and use the lights to indicate something is on or off.

If you use Inner Space, you won't need to Symbolic Link (MK Link) or use Junction Points.
Basically there is an option for a virtual config file.
So you can have high or low graphic options on a per character basis.
Really the only thing that multiple folders gets over a single folder, is different configuration options.
But a single folder is so much easier on patch day.

Okay so you mentioned that IS uses automatic FTL? I am intrigued so i will jump into their wiki and links and see what i turn up. I am assuming that you mean the assisting from follower to main is automated in IS. Will update as i get more into it. I have my comp running now and am installing the basic wow + expansions and then updating... once all that is done i will see if i can get IS running.

Well you can choose to use FTL modifiers or a Focus based system with the wizard.
For the FTL, you need to choose a mod key combination unique to each toon.
I went with: Left Control // Right Control // Left Alt // Right Alt // Left Control + Left Alt
There are three keymaps which use the automatic FTL.
Assist the main character, target the main character and follow the main character.
Most of the FTL type keymaps will call one of these functions.
Regardless of the window you are in, if you press the 1 key, all of the others will also press the 1 key.
They will automatically target the same thing as the "hot" character.

Ualaa i just wanted to give a shout out to say BIG thanks for your comments here.
I am in the isboxer software right now and am just trying to decide if i want a focus assist or the FTL assist style. I would love to try the FTL assist and i might but it means i get no modifiers for my abilities. I was using Y as purge and ShiftY as windshear on round-robin. I was also using some combination of modifiers for my shock spells in different combos on different toons. Choices, choices i guess.
Anyway thanks. I will check out the thread you mentioned on the IS set up and i am also watching the videos as i go through ISboxer.

You can still use modifiers for abilities.
Basically the automatic FTL is for keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, -, and =.
You can copy what the wizard has done, and make any other key an auto assist (via FTL too).
Using modifiers on these keys will probably mess up the FTL.
At least I think it will.
However, I haven't used Shift at all, on my FTL modifiers.
You could easily leave Alt or Control free.
In which case they (well one) could be modifiers for your FTL dps keys.
As far as all the other Keymaps go, if they're not calling the auto FTL, then modifiers don't matter.
If for example, you put Hurricane on Alt + A.
You can set it up so mouse broadcasting applies, until your next click.
It doesn't matter that Alt is an FTL modifier, because you're not using FTL in this keymap.
