View Full Version : Server exodus when rated BGs come out?

Taj mentioned this in his video thread but it made me think.
Once rated BGs come out, who would be interested in moving to a new server, a new single server? Three sets of multiboxers could pretty much dominate AB, and EOTs especially since we could easily hold a node each?
I'm on Sargeras which is Shadowburn -- we're a launch server and fairly competative BG (last season the #1 2v2 team was from Sargeras and I'm in the top 100 with my 5s team with a sub 1800 rating, could be fun :)

I like the idea of looking into moving onto a server together... but please not Sargeras :)
I started there - server is ridden with punk kids and haters, and worse - Shadowfail battlegroup... as horde

Haha, I think you'll find that just about anywhere =P
For the first year and a half of the server it was dominated by horde with a 2:1 population - then a free server transfer to Detheroc was offered and most of the top horde guilds transfered and ever since its been a primarily alliance server.
You could always come over to the other side though ;) 4 gifts of naaru on your healer can make the differnece in some games, but then again the horde racials probably make a difference in every game ;)
Its pretty rare for me to run into a hater now a days, I've been running the Shamans for nearly a year now so most people know me and most of those people think I bring something positive. :)
Its been a long journey from joining BGs with 13k HP and getting "oh great, a botter and he's taking up 4 slots" to "Fuck yeah, Clov's here, gg" :)

Of course everyone will want to offer their own server / battlegroup, but whirlwind is highly competitive and very active on both sides. Queues are always <1minute, even mid day. As far as 2000+ rated competition - I believe that all battlegroups offer the same high rated level of play. The days of "Bloodlust blah blah blah" are over in that sense. Now all that matters are levels of activity and Queue times.
First question is faction. I am alliance currently, but to be honest my vote is we run horde. It's just plain better and usually a more tolerable, mature player population than alliance. Second point - Battlegroup: I don't really care specifically, but I want HIGH population and plenty of active arena junkies floating around since I would most likely have to recruit a new healer for arena. If people are interested and serious about boxed pvp, please speak up. Its a ways off and we have time to talk it over.

I'm looking forward to rated BG's more than anything. If there were plenty of boxers dedicated enough, I'd move servers. My last guild and arena teammates went Aion so I'm looking for non-casual pvpers to play with.

Well, I believe you. But I won't recommend Reckoning. And I wouldn't wish Shadowfail on my enemies.
And I think we should all be Horde.

Why transfer realms? We can all just fresh roll teams on a realm and level to 10 or 20 and all level up in BG's together for fun. I would definitely do that.

Money will clearly be an issue for some people, which is fine and understandable. I don't know if I have the fortitude to level any more toons though. I will again recommend whirlwind battlegroup for population and queue times, but I would like a different server. Horde pop on Uther isn't the best.
So, Horde for sure. Any objections?

I'm also alliance currently but I've been considering going horde for awhile for the +spell power orc racial, all though since I started binding all 4 gifts of naaru to my healer that's won us a few games where I would have otherwise had to stop killing people and heal him (all though sometimes I still have to do heals but its enough to keep him from dying).
lol @ shadowfail
An yeah, as much fun as releveling would be, I would rather just pay the $100 in server transfer fees and possibly the extra for faction changes (all though $35 x4 is a bit).
My main shaman has 94 days played and my clones have 48 days. In addition to having all the relentless off peices and the rest furious they also have complete PVE sets since I pug quad raids =P
Anyhow, $100 (server xfer) I could get away with, but my wife would probably be pissed if she saw a charge from blizzard for $240 over my "stupid game" (she plays too mind you, she just thinks its incredibly nerdy for me to multibox).
But yeah, I'm with Asonimie - I just want high pop and some good competition, also should be a PvP server. If I didn't have the occasional horde to try and blow up before they fly away I'd /wrist while doing dailies.

I'm alliance side on Cenarius (US) which is in Whirlwind.
I'd prefer alliance side, but am not entirely against rolling horde toons.
Whirlwind... horde seem to win almost every Warsong, but the other BG's can go either way at any point.

Im surprised I never see you! Ya horde on whirlwind do pretty well. They always win AB and do well in WSG (except against me). Everything else is a toss up, which is fine. Any idea where the top horde populations are in our BG?

I stopped playing WoW for quite a while, then came back multiboxing and have loved it. But haven't really been able to find a good click of people. I don't know about spending all that money (on my stupid game as my wife also puts it) but I think I would like get together with other like minded players.

Well, I'd prefer PVP server - not sure about you guys. I do like the fact that Whirlwind is in Seattle.. I was afraid it was in Boston (a little more latency from the west coast).
As far as PVP servers, in whirlwind you have:
Ravenholdt
The Forgotten Coast
Anub'arak
Maiev
Vashj

It's gonna be a few bucks to transfer/faction change a lot of toons for sure, but like a lot of others I just don't have the energy or the desire to start over from scratch. I'd be re-making the exact same toons. The fun of a new group wears off pretty fast, and I'd rather be 85 and tearing up pvp than months behind.

Aye, having a data center close is pretty important. I am currently on a boston data center and I use the registry fix and even then it drops my ping from 250 to 130. I go onto a closer data center and my ping is 30-40s max. Seattle data center servers are not run by AT&T so that is a bonus right there.

Just talked to a shaman on Anub'arak who is #2 5v5 in the whirlwind battlegroup.
Anub sounds like a pretty solid server for horde. He said they win everything, significantly outnumber alliance and have some of the highest rated pvpers in the battlegroup. Healthy economy etc.
All the check marks are there for me. I'll keep asking around.
And Edit: I'm east coast but I play on a west coast server at the moment, and it's not that horrible.

Any of us have their own vent server?
Clovis
10-17-2009, 05:31 PM
I have a vent that's a guildie's that he lets me use for pugs and whatnot, I'll clear it with him and then post the info.
For 4 characters it would be $100 to transfer ($25 per transfer) -- if Faction change is factored in, then its an extra $35 per toon.

How much does this service cost?
Each Faction Change costs $30.00 USD (not including applicable taxes). This covers a single Faction Change for a single character.

No I believe its 30 for faction, I remember it being 55 per toon for a full crossover.

Yeah for sure. Nathrezim is in LA and I'm in Phoenix, but it's AT&T so I don't get much better performance than I did playing on Dallas servers. AT&T routing is a bit of a mess (I was in Houston for a bit and couldn't reach Nathrezim for a month due to massive packet loss over AT&T, I had to tunnel it through an SSH server in Dallas on Level3). I'm gonna test out some Seattle servers and see what I get.

Well with a 3 day cooldown on transfers, I'm willing to move my paladin or priest over to try out the BGs, wintergrasp, monitor the market, and just get a feel for the server. Not much to lose really.

Let me do a bit more digging. I've talked to 1-3 people on 4 of the PVP servers now, and although they all sound semi-successful at pvp, Anub sounds like a higher pop, which is important for the economy. I'll talk to a couple more and post back tonight.

Thanks smooth!!
Maiev: While Maiev has the highest horde pop, alliance is dead which can make for an unhealthy experience in some ways. I talked to some people there and they indicated very little pvp action going on, theres only like 1 team above 2K 5v5 so ya... but then again same on my server /wink. I also thought Maiev is also considered a low pop server for some reason...
Anub: Horde have the majority, heard good things overall. My choice at this point. I am going to talk to some more people, high rated 2v2 peeps etc.
Forgotten Coast: I always assumed this place was a hub for pvp, but I got some sort of negative vibe today, maybe I talked to the wrong person. I'll dig some more. Good population numbers.
Vashj: Dont think I've checked it out yet.
Darrowmere: Pretty low pop overall, haven't heard much either.

I'd rather be on one where Horde in 40-50% of the pop.. not 76%... that's just too high.
The Forgotten Coast has a cool name too :)

I gotta agree with ya. also it has 13k population which is not bad. Anyone who is on or comes from a low pop server can tell you how much fun it is with you and 5 other people in the tradechat cities at any given time.

forgotten coast has 6,300 people at level 80. Split right down the middle almost at 48% / 52%.
I have a bunch of characters on the forgotten coast.
Here are some important features about TFC that I have experience with:
It has a stable player base. (People transfer here, not away.)
Stable in its economy. (The prices are fair and when you get something good you can normally sell it.)
Lots of good people
Fast ques
Most of the people on the server are used to multiboxing by this point so not many haters. (I know that is a plus for some.)
Lastly, It has at least three other very active boxers on all the time.
So I vote for The Forgotten Coast.
p.s. Horde wins most of the wintergrasps but pvp is still competitive in most aspects.
On another note. I never really write on forums but I certainly read the info. You guys are awesome and a huge help. Thank you.

Ohhh, the irony!
That throught crossed my mind earlier today.. I mean, if we all transfer to the same battle group or server we're bound to queue up against each other and with windsheers constantly going off that could be interesting.
How did the match go?

I have no interest in fighting each other at high ratings. There's plenty of nights to play where we could avoid it.
It was my warlock team in the poop gear, so he won lol.

This move would be for rated BGs correct? Not arenas, unless I am mistaken.
Thing that sucks is there is only a handful of good healers per server and I think if arenas were still king it might suck trying to find them for all us boxers for our 5s team unless they are bringing over their pocket healers too. ;p Of course some are needed for BGs, but BGs currently I think are more forving than arenas. /shrug

Thats why I was saying it would be nice to have a good pvp population. I may convince my pocket healer to come, it's a ways off so we'll see.
I have only gone against 1 or 2 other boxers while playing arena. I didn't know it was you. It was crazy to see all that purple in my gladius. And yes, the macro is amazing.

Hit 1820 tonight, picked up shields (not enough honor for weapons, if we can get 1859 this week we'll get just enough points). -- Then went against the same wizard cleave teams over and over with a 1600 rated team thrown in and down 27 points =/ lol
I'm rethinking my wizard cleave strategy because I'll go for the shaman and soon as I try to burst him I'm aoe's stunned and/or feared from the warlock and the shaman runs away -- usually by then 1 shaman is already dead and in 20 seconds they can do it again! waaaa, amazing how the top teams in both 3v3 and 5v5 are wizard cleave =P
