HI,

I am thinking about building a new "single Boxing (5 accounts on one box)" PC.

Any suggestions on "State of the art/ current" Motherboard, Processor, GFX card, all preferably able to be water cooled ?
(8 Gig of mem is a minimum)

My current system is in the signature.

cheers in advance

What is the budget? If I were building a new system today: I7,12gigs,NEW GPU (lots to choose from, $$ will determine one)

I was able to get my computer (see sig) for $1,500. It runs 5 with ease. Definitely check out www.buyxg.com (http://www.buyxg.com) and use their configurator to get exactly what you want. I'm personally very happy with all my decisions and feel I was able to avoid any too-expensive non-used components. I went with the "cheaper" video card but made sure it had high amounts of VRAM. I went with the "cheaper" SSD and have nothing but great performance.

Stick with Core i7, 12GB RAM, HD 5870 (especially for 3-monitor support in current version), and an SSD. You can cut corners with everything else to save cash, but with unknown system demands for Cataclysm next year, I wouldn't risk having anything less than the above items at a minimum. The performance hit when BC came out was steep, and again significant when WotLK was released. I'd expect Cataclysm to be even more detailed.

I'm holding out for specs on the 5870 2GB, 5870X2, and 5870 SIX/Eyefinity before upgrading the videocard - still on an 8800GTX with watercooled Core i7 EE965, 12GB RAM, 2x300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0, 60GB SSD, etc.
As it currently stands, the 5870 1GB & 2GB support 3 displays as long as at least 1 has Display Port (24" Dell 2408 Ultrasharps do) The 5870 SIX appears to require 6x Display Port monitors. The 5870X2 looks like it has 2x DVI and 1x min-Display Port.... which has me leaning toward the 5870 2GB model for my 3x 24" Dell Ultrasharps if it is released soon, or possibly the 5870X2 if I feel it is right around the corner when the 2GB 5870 comes out.

Your rig specs are precisely what i am looking for.
Any idea when the 2GB HD5870 2GB will hit the market ?

The new corei5 / corei7 systems with 8-12GB ram are fine for 5boxing these days. I started as a software boxer on a core2quad 2.8 with 8gb ram and a crap video card. Works fine. the new systems are 2x as powerful and you can snag one for 700-900 bucks.

about GPUs... you don't need the top end vid card. Save some money and go raid0 double HDs or something that will actually help. WOW doesn't need a great GPU.

Raid 0 or even better a disk for your OS and an other disk just for WoW. If you make the single disk for wow an SSD that will probably get you a nice performance increase as opposed to a regular magnetic disk.
