View Full Version : Default Actionbars ftw - help needed though!

I've just yesterday converted from Macaroon to the default action bars. Since the default actionbars are big and ugly, I'm currently using:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info6893-MouseOver.html
It does all I need, which is hiding the default actionbars unless the mouse is over them. It's an old add-on however, and it's buggy. After playing for a while, the bars will disappear completely and I have to /reloadui to get the to reappear. I'm not good with LUA, so I can't fix the code (although the add-on is really simple - like 30 lines of code).
Does anyone here know a good add-on which does the same thing, but works?

I found:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12168-rActionBarStyler.html
Which is a temporary solution, but still looking for something that just hides on mouseover - nothing else :-)

I know Titan-bars make them a lot smaller, not sure about hiding

[Edit: aah, yeah, if BarStyler is too many features for you, then Dominos is too, sorry]
I am in the middle of converting away from Macaroon myself atm.
I went for Dominos, because it trys not to stray at all far from the existing interface (a K.I.S.S. approach, explicitly to be more robust and easier for the author to update).
It does allow to hide except for mouseover, as you are looking for, but also does all the scaling and moving around, hiding the griffins, keybinds, and bar swaps for possession/vehicles, which I don't think you wanted.
Still, the /click macros seem to be the same as for the standard interface (eg I will be using "/click ActionButton1" just as if it were the normal interface), so it certainly seems that he is re-using the standard built-in stuff wherever possible. So far, it does seem robust to me.

Default is nice once I've gotten used to it. rActionBarStyler is really nice and even if it breaks, my UI will still work (it'll just be uglier). Which was the point in the first place. I don't want any add-ons that interfere with the default key mappings, so dominos isn't for me :-)

What are all the mods you use?
Thanks!

I went from Bartender4 to default interface about a year ago. It's not as sexy or flexible, but you get used to it and it works. When patch day comes, you're not hostage to updates. If you need to play on a friend's computer, you don't feel like your lost without your interface.
In the video options there is a UI scale box, where you can make the default interface smaller. I have it down to the lowest setting which frees up some space.
edit: and it pisses me off that I'm in agreement with fur on more and more things these days. ;)

Hehe, quite a few - too many to list. The GUI ones are pitbull4, rActionBarStyler, omnicc, cooldowns2, elkbuffbars, prat, squeenix, recount, omen and fubar :-)

I'm using the default bars too.
Most of us are using windowed mode, well the software boxers are probably at any rate.
With the UI Scale slider, the default bars take up a very small portion of the screen.

yeah default actionbars ftw, go into your interface settings and scale the default bars down - no longer big and ugly, now they small and ugly. I use very few addons but the one I absolutely cannot live without is BindPad. Make a macro or select a spell and drag it to the bindpad and bind a key combination to it by left clicking it in the bindpad panel, you will then be asked to enter the key combo, I have an xkeys pro where every key has a unique combo so I just press whatever key I want, you don't even have to have the macro on your actionbars. It's extremely quick and easy to use. It also has macro extension beyond the 255 limit, it doesn't get any easier. Brilliant.

You got thinking and then searching (I'm probably OCD for UIs). I found this and just tried it (seems to work fine):
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12550-KongUIHider.html
Note, I am not the author, nor do I get anything from recommending it. It may or may not meet your needs.
I've used Dominos and rActionBars (and a bunch of others). I like Dominos, but I am back playing with the default. Since I use Combuctor, I don't need to see the bag bar, but it may be something I can live with.
Good luck.

Yeah, I have the semi-OCD thing for my UI too :P... Thanks for the link - I'll look into it. It looks really good!

the thread got me thinking about actionbars and how I didnt really like the ones on the right, I found a mod named: Mafariun's Elements mover on wow interface. It doesn't give you more action bars or anything but it just moves your existing ones and centers them all on the bottom of the screen - see thumb - I used the default layout and scaled it down in the ui control
I also have Ricominimap to make the square map and it allows you to drag it around
